Title: Super forkies "SPORKS!!!"
Post by: boneaddict on December 18, 2008, 06:06:02 PM
Alright, it seems to me that we started a giant two point thread, but dang if I can find it, so we are going to start another one.  This thread is for those special two points out there that are just incredible.  SOme of us hate them for their genetics, some of us love them for their incredible bones.   If I stumble upon the old thread that I thought we made, I'll merge them.    Until then, start posting those super forkies.

Here's a couple two pts we got in winthrop a few years back!  They both have eyeguards.  The heavy one right of center is mine and was a very old buck.  Saw one there 2 years ago that would push 24".

Huntnphool,
why do you "consider" a 3-point a forkie?

Huntnphool,
why do you "consider" a 3-point a forkie?

I suppose you could call that a G4 but to me its a main frame 2 point with a tiny extra, not a shooter for me but to each his own.

I didn't say anything about it being a shooter.  I just asked why you considered it a forkie when it clearly is not.

Mine from a few years ago.

The left and right eye guards. The one tine looked as if it wanted to fork, but didn't.

I didn't say anything about it being a shooter.  I just asked why you considered it a forkie when it clearly is not.

Well if you want to get technical I suppose you're right, but then if we are talking technical then there are only a couple pics on here that would qualify as 2 points, as several of them have brow tines which are counted officially. The post was started to show pics, which is what everyone on this site likes to see, I seriously doubt they care about a brow tine or 2" G4 :dunno: Just enjoy the pics or maybe post some of your own.

No need to get all defensive.  I just wondered why you considered it something that it is not.

I'm not defensive at all, you clearly didn't understand when I told you "I suppose you could call that a G4 but to me its a main frame 2 point with a tiny extra, not a shooter for me but to each his own." so I thought I would explain it so you might better understand, I thought it was pretty clear. :dunno:

Thats a huge 2pt. Seen one like that over by Republic a couple of years ago. Huge rack, huge deer, but only a 2pt. As long as I looked, I still could not grow a 3rd point on him.  :chuckle:

Saw this one late archery last year.  No I did not want to kill him as just not what I want.  First was 150yds, and second was much closer.  That is all the zoom my pocket digital has.  Fog and snow did not help, but this guy just looked old and tough in the body and horns.

Here is a cougar kill from the Desert Unit.

22" spread the tips are 9 inches apart. If you look at the buck that NWBrute killed this year on his desert hunt there are some serious genetic resemblances between the two.

As a pt of reference my cat weighs 14 pounds.

The area (mountian) I hunt has this 2pt on it that has been there for about 3 years now. He has grown to be a dominate buck. This year he had an easy 26"x26" spread. I wish it was legal to cull him from the herd, as he is siring to many forkies. All I can do is wish the indians and cougars the best of luck.

I was with pathfinder101 when he shot that buck. Horns might not be that special but it was a great shot! He was the second person i guided into that spot and at least he didn't disappoint me. The person before him missed a 5x5 6 times starting at 45 yards and the last shot at 200 every shot was a standing still broadside shot. I wish it had been the 5x5 in from of Pathfinder.

Phool, that buck looks like its missing most of its tail?  Are some different than others or could it have been frozen off like a cows? :dunno:

Dude I can totally answer that one for you.  I saw the answer to this on a hunting show yesterday.  Here's what wildlife biologists have found.

Originally they believed it was from coyotes or black bears but after research they found that it comes from other more dominant does when the deer are just fawns.  The does will bite them by the tails and toss them when they are pissed at the less dominant does fawns.  When they whip them around or toss them often times part of the tail breaks of or rips off  :yike:  Kind of jacked up but there you go.

Bone those are some sweet pics.  You'll have to Pm me where some of those locals were taken.  This year during my wifes rifle season in the LT. Murray we saw two big "forkies".  One is easily 25 inches wide with lots of mass and the other one was easily 22 inches wide.  Both looked to be from he same gene pool.  We saw two other forkies both were about 18-20 wide.  Man my heart was going with that big one I thought my wifes first buck was going to be a total pig.  Glassed him from about 150 yds away for the better part of 10 minutes trying to find a third point, anything.  But no luck.

I think I still owe CoryTDF a beer for putting me on that buck.  He knows the ground out there, and if I had been by myself I would have popped out on him 2 ridges too early and blown it.  That was the year of the big fires in the Blues and there weren't a lot of bucks to be had.  I thought I was gonna have to eat tag soup.
He put me on my buck this year too... and he wasn't even on the mountain when I shot it!!  Talk about someone who oughtta be a guide....

Had a kid that works for me make the same mistake.  He called himself in to the Game Dept.  Good kid, his buddy took a shot at it, missed, and he put it down.  His buddy swore it was a 2x3.  When they got up to it, he saw it wasn't.  Lesson learned.

Do you teach hunter's safety?  I actually teach the game ID class here in town.  I use a lot of antlers too.

Reading through this thread makes me proud to be a Washingtonian hunter. We humbly call these "fork horns" or "two pointers."

I just did some hunting in New Mexico where "if you can hang a ring on it, you count it a point."  :puke: A lot of guys I met would post some of these and be bragging about killing a "SIX POINT BUCK."  I even wound up at one guys house who was kind enough to have me over, excited to see this ostensibly good white tail that most would call a shooter. It was a 4x4 with eye guards and a few cheater points, but was known around the neighborhood as having THIRTEEN POINTS  :bash:

Search “the legend”  and you’ll get the story behind him.   He’s actually in this thread a couple times, different years.

Here is the link, I think. Lol

Not sure how I never saw that before but very cool to have a history with him like that. Usually not a fan of having dominant 2 point genetics but they sure are cool looking when they get like that!

I'm disappointed WDFW did not come up with a youth hunt this year on the east side to target these.

WOW! What a toad of a two point. How did I miss this buck. If he had a inch long eye guard I shoot that buck.

I got a monster you are going to love.   I think he is in this thread. It might be in the other two point thread.   He grew up.   Funny thing was he wasn’t a two anymore, but broke off some tines and is a two again.   Conspiracy theorists might believe he broke them off himself before the season started.    :chuckle:

He needs his own thread!   I almost didn’t come back to this thread.
