Thanks guys, I have a few more to do, and a few more to make fresh. Looking forward to calling this year, hope we get some snow.... last year was a bit frustrating!

Really enjoyed those videos and stories.

Hope this is ok for this thread.
I found some fresh lion tracks today. I followed what I could till I found an area where I could call and still kinda see( everything was super thick and steep!) I found a good spot to hide and pull out my e caller..............dead! Won't even turn on. So I pull out couple hand calls and try to tuck in the brush a little more and start with fawn distress pausing every 30 sec or so to listen. After a bit I hear a whistle about 150 yards up the hill, Then another one about 200 yards to my right. They talk back and forth a a few times with the second one getting a little closer. Then I do another set and I hear one last whistle so I do it back best I can with my voice. All quiet! After a few mins I hear this gargley cough sound just fifty yards away. I scan the area with just my eyes but just couldn't see in that area(thick firs) I sat there for a long time still as death but after a while I heard something leaving.
Any tips how this could have played out better? What did I do right and should I do diffrent to change the next hunt. I know snow would help me see better but after last winter I think I need to learn to hunt these cats with or with out snow. Thanks for any advise you can offer

Yes, absolutely............. CHARGE YOUR CALLER!!!!
Great call-in! Probably 2ish year old littermates, or grown young with Mamma still hunting together. Would love this story on my website, did you take any pics of the spot?

caller is all good with fresh battery's!!!! I wish I had taken a pic of the location. I did take a pic of the track. After wards I kicked my self for not taking a pic as I went over the hunt walking out. I did mark it on my gps and earlier in the year I found tracks down the mountian lower. For now on I will. Last year I found deer bones scattered all over this mountian! I'll be hunting it again in the future.
Your welcome to use the story

Here's one where I called the cat in, but never saw it. I got a vocal response and sat for a long time throwing the kitchen sink at it, but nothing. This video was with a little digital camera right there on stand. The cat was very likely within rifle range as I took this video, but probably knew I was there.

This was on my friend's ranch. Haven't seen much sign the last couple years on that particular ranch though. Some years the tracks are all over especially around the water troughs.

Thanks for sharing all your information, it has been very helpful to my many failures in this area, knowing what I'm doing wrong. Seeing the set ups you do on video and you explaining your tactics is very helpful. The two cats that I have not been successful getting have both come in from downhill from me and I was set up facing uphill. :bash: I guess you just never know.

thats interesting. I have only ever had one cougar approach from down hill and it was while I was talking to 2 cats above me. It came from below but went around and came back on same level as me.

good info. very motivating
He Kinda' makes the case that if you focus on lion calling that success is available, doesn't it?
I have found success in what I have focused on in the past and have met Steve and just need to "get my mind right." Getting my "mind right" once you have kids combined with when you have the nut cracked in other hunting endeavors seems to work out better in theory than in practice though for this hombre'.
I know damn well that I can be in a position to take another really nice black tail, I know that I will shoot a lot of pheasants, I know that I will shoot a lot of rockchucks and I could give up one or the other and be a cougar killing machine, year in, year out, using Steve's guidance, but so far the commitment I want to happen... just hasn't happened... yet.
