Title: Mudslide getting to Wenaha and Mountain View
Post by: Todd_ID on April 13, 2017, 08:39:12 AM
Just a heads up for those with Wenaha and Mountain View bear tags: my wife said the Asotin County Sheriff posted on Facebook that there was a mudslide on Hwy 129. The road is closed indefinitely until they get it fixed. It was between mile post 4 and 6 which would put it on Rattlesnake Grade (between Anatone and Grande Ronde River). You'll have to go through LaGrande or Enterprise to get to Troy.

Pictures I saw on FB (Anatone News) it doesn't look too bad.  Someone lost their driveway bridge.  Not sure about how the culvert/bridge is in the first switchback.

Yes.  From the pics it looks to be between the river and the first switchback on the WA side.  I just looked at Google Earth and the pics only show about a 1/4 mile of that canyon.  The drainage on the East side of the road washed out the driveway bridge right there before you cross the river.  Looking closer at the pics it looks like part of the hill may have come down on the road too maybe blocking 1 lane.

Saw that the DOT has the road closed at Anatone.

UPDATE --

They have the road open.  One lane, expect delays.

Hopefully the landowner pays for this BS ! This was no Mother Nature flooding or landslide. Halseys land up top blocked the creek for there private lake and it broke blowing out that canyon and almost every tree in its path! This stream in the last 5 years has become loaded with steelhead . Wdfw has been spending money on gravel beds and spawning habitat and it's ruined!

Not to include the massive damage to the highway and the brand new bridge to the Botts farm is gone that WDFW helped fund last year to replace !!

Any word on the road?  Still one lane or have they opened it up yet?  Heading down for bear in about 2 weeks and just wondering about conditions.
