Title: Decoy Questions
Post by: eastsidemallard74 on August 06, 2017, 10:20:32 PM
I'm looking at massively  (more financially) upgrading some decoys in my goose trailer. I habe some Dakota's, Greenhead , and some other full flocked. About 3 dozen worth.  I'm looking at either Dave Smith's or REC. I've hunted over the smiths, nice decoy sturdy, nice flock, and super real.  I've never hunted the RDC,anyone have any pros or cons they could or want to share. Looking at adding about another dozen. Thanks for  input.

I have hunted over the RDC decoys and I don't think they hold up as well as the DSD Decoys.  Also DSD came out with the new line this season with 9 different poses.  A decent price point and they look better.  They also use a specialized paint that RDC does not.  A few guys were pushing the RDC down in Oregon.  I believe Eric Strand and Mike Horne.  They have used both for multiple seasons.  Might be worth reaching out to both and see what they say.
I personally would support DSD Decoys.  I ran 12 dozen of them for 8 years and run just two dozen of the ACE ones now.  Mainly due to I chase more snows than anything anymore.

I have no personal experience but I would use the dsd's. They are durable and the most realistic looking.

The DSD'S are super nice, my friends guide with them. I've only seen videos of the REC, just both are alot of money and a huge investment

If your going to make the investment, go with something that will last.  DSD Decoys paint on the ACE tech is very durable. They hold their value very well.  They spend a lot of time on R&D where many of the others just try to copy their decoys.

I have both and DSDs are better quality.  DSDs are lighter and better plastic material.  I liked my RDCs how ever the shed I store all my decoys in got a bit warm during the summer and the plastic material degraded to the point where the head literally fell off.  When it comes to my goose decoys I'm over the top at taking care of them in the field and when I store them for the summer.  So I was not to thrilled when opened the shed up to find 2 decoys missing heads and numerous others cracking.

Is there any kind of warranty you can get?

If you don't like them send them back asap for possible refund not used. Never heard of much of a warranty for deeks that can get shot up and bounce like popcorn in the trailer.  Maybe you can find a sucker on CL to pay at cost for used deeks but most cases when buying decoys the money is gone.

I would call rdc, sounds like an issue they know about. Guide buddy of mine was saying he knew of a guy with 12 dozen and had to make a trip there almost every year because his decoys bubble and deform with the heat we have here
