On September 3rd at 1:00pm it was super hot and I filled my bag with water and gatorade. I left camp and headed to a flat that has a ton of berries. I got about 1/2 a mile from camp and started seeing fresh bear scat all over the place. I walked through the thick brush quietly when all of a sudden I heard a snap and caught movement about 30 yards from me, BEAR! He stoped behind a tree and I could only see his head and neck. I peeked through my scope waiting for him to come through a small opening for what seemed like forever. When I let my rifle down he caught my movement and began to run, I took a running shot at him and heard a loud WHACK! I thought alright I got a nice one. I looked for blood and sign for about 1.5 hours after I marked the spot I shot. I found no blood and went back to the spot I shot. I found in a thick branch a bullet hole and believe the WHACK wasn't shoulder or ribs, but was infact the wack of my .180 grain core-lokt smacking the branch, CLEAN MISS. I was so dejected, frustrated and hot I decided to go take a swim in the Columbia River. After cooling off I decided to go back out about 4:45 pm a few miles down the road. I drove my truck down the main road to a logging road and began to walk down it. About a 1/4 mile in I looked up and at 147 yards I see a bear walking up the road to me. He stops and looks up at me facing me head on. I put the cross hairs on his chest and slowly squeezed, WHACK and he dropped right their in the road out for the count and didn't move a muscle. I walked up and realized he was a small boar. Talk about ground shrinkage. Im quite sure this little boars mother had just left it this spring. Nevertheless he will be great eating and was a easy pack out. I am happy and thankful to have takin another bear even though he is the smallest by far. I stayed all day today helping my cousin try to find a bear with no luck. I did get a grouse today with my Glock 21 .45 as well so it was a fun hunt! I left at 4:45pm back for Spokane and would you believe it I saw another bear 15 yards off the highway that I guess would be around 265-280lbs. I got to see 3 bears in all, 4 nice bucks, about 13 grouse, and 70 turkey. It's always good to be in God's country and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Best of luck to all who still have a tag, hope you get a BIG one. Thanks for reading my story, ✌. 🐻💥🔫🍻
