While butchering my elk last night we discovered that she had at some time broken her femur! It was an injury that was healed but the area around the injury was all white tissue rather than muscle. The bones were laying parallel to each other rather than butting. So her femur was half the length as normal. Tough animals!

We ran into this a few years back as well, except this one had not healed completely, was still fractured. Tons of scar tissue. Crazy tough animals.
