What is everyone's go to for paint? I have some black auto primer that I could use and plenty of it I just don't know how well it would hold up. Thanks!

Paint? I always boiled my rusty traps in big pot full of water and 1/3 full of alder leaves. Old leaves are fine. Nice black color no rust. Melted canning wax on top of bucket of water and dipped traps in for nice wax coating.
But you probably mean box traps or shiny ones since legholds are no longer.

I use primer also on the cages, and boil my others with sage and log dye

How many traps do you usually get out of a can?

I have a dip tank and have used speed dip thinned with non-ethanol gas. I used to use mineral spirits but the stuff is too pricey when you are mixing a lot.
I've also dumped in rustoleum rusty metal primer.
A lot of people don't like speed dip but I think they must dip at the last minute because I never had any complaints when I gave it enough time to cure. I believe at least one month.
I was never happy with painting as it seemed I always found a spot I missed.
