I've only been able to get out a few times so far but it's been dismal for me. Anyone else seeing anything or connected yet?
-
Same story for me. Been tough.
-
Seen one spike and one two point been hard to even find deer!!
-
Ya all the places I usually find doe at least I haven't seen much. Maybe nest couple of days it will get better?
-
Worst year i have ever seen in there
-
You will be hard pressed to find a buck in there until the rut kicks in. Ive been out 4 or 5 times, seen 20 does and not one buck.
-
I was wondering the same thing but leaning more towards Eatonville Hancock. Anyone know if the roads are ok for a car or do you need a truck for sure? Any Blacktail spotted?
-
A couple does for me. Mainly been last 2 hours of light after work last week and spent sunday out there.
-
Been in there quite a bit, saw 1 spike and a 2 point on the road out last night, was kind of sketchy as far as shooting light goes, so I didn't shoot him. Seen very few does, weather has been bright and sunny, haven't even really had a good frost yet
-
Same here.. I wouldn't buy a pass, no animals and I heard Vail and Capitol Forest is where to go. I'd go there.
-
I think they really screwed up changing that unit 654 from 2 pt or better to any buck.

Vail sells out permits in minutes from the research I did

Spent all day on the king creek side today, didn’t see a deer. Going to try the other side tomorrow. With my dad so mostly road hunting. jackmaster has been in there for the past 2 days, zero deer seen!

I'm just getting off work. Was planning on mountain biking in tomorrow but these reports are making me want to sleep in!

Finally some action last night!
Gut pile on the side of the road...drag marks from the middle of the road to the side to gut it out.
Everyone in hancock is looking in the timber and clear cuts but apparently they are standing in the middle of the road ;)
Season isnt over yet
-
Well, they got to be somewhere in there. Hoping it just means late buck will be good........
-
That place is dead! 2 full days, 153 miles w my dad and we finally saw 3 does today. Also saw a bobcat, I also think the rut in Hancock is not on.

Off the road :chuckle: lots of deer in there. Seen 6 the last trip up.
-
anyone know if I'll be ok without a car in there on the roads?
-
Lucked out with this buck couple weekends ago! 3x3
-
nice deer, you shot the last one! :chuckle:

Congrats dude! I was up yesterday saw one doe that's it though
-
Jumped a good buck opening morning but he was just too fast and the cover was thick. Seen a spike and about 8-10 does, jumped a few more that was never able to see. Those were probably the monsters haha

Right on! Congrats, that is a great looking blackie.

Nice deer tracker96!!
-

Yes, you would be fine driving a car up there, at least on the main roads. Guy I know drove a car in there last year, had no issues, other than he got 2 flats.
-
Thanks everyone hunted hard with the time we had! Barely even had time to scout this year!
-
Anyone successful today?? Perfect weather!!!
-
I got in there late today 830ish. Saw two bucks. One little spike and a decent 3 pointer. Gona hit it again tomorrow.
-
There is definitely starting to rut. I had a doe come by me bleating. Sadly, it was only a spike on her tail. There was a second doe also bleating below me, and I set up on her, that's when a truck decided to drive down the narrow dead end road I was on. Nothing else seen all day in there by me. Did here a few shots in the AM hours.
-
I thought I was a decent hunter, then I tried hunting blacktail in Hancock . Thursday I saw 2 does, no bucks in the rear. Today we saw zero deer, covered a crap load of beautiful country, sun up to sun down, nothing, zilch!! Deer hunting in there absolutely sucks, for me anyways. More predator control!!!
-
Crunchy and Trophyhunts story’s sound very similiar to mine in there. Today I saw no deer.
-
My girlfriend killed a 3x3 Friday I shot a 2 point today and my uncle killed a old mature two point buck this evening he had a huge body!

I hunted in there from day light to dark in a couple walk in units , only bumped into one other guy, I was up there with my son and cousin on Thursday and then my daughter and my cousin on Friday , my daughter had had a chance to shoot a small 3pt but just couldn't get steady enough quick enough, oh well..that's huntn, we passed up a 3pt with eye guards and a two point!! If WDFW does not do something about the predators the deer population in there will continue to decline, I have hunted in there since this permit pass started, you use to see deer all over, well in the last 5 years the number of deer has dramatically decreased and it will get worse, sure with as many people in there a few are gonna see pockets of a few deer and kill a few, but there are 1500 or 1200 permits , that's a lot of eyes in the woods !! But I now see more bobcat and cougar sign than I do deer sign in certain places !! I try my hardest to control the predators in the areas I deer hunt but as I kill them more just move right in!! If you old timers remember , back in the 80s and 90s seeing a pile of bobcat or cougar crap was a rarity , now what do you see?? If it wasn't for the ease of Hancock being literally 10 minutes from my front door I would NOT buy a pass !! But I am starting to enjoy predator huntn as much as blacktail huntn, and another thing, if you don't really truly enjoy blacktail huntn you would be better off looking for mule deer and whitetail !! And to the guy that asked about driving your car up there, it's a bad idea unless you got a trunk load of spares to put on!!

Atleast you can still hunt preditors in there. You can still hunt preditors in the White River unit, Technically, but they shut our access down from jan 1 to march 31 because its, and i quote, a critical time for the cows that are carrying calves in their winter range and don't want motorized access pushing them around. Those three months are the best time to kill preditors if a person wants to focuss on it, in my opinion. They cut our access by 25% and they already made half the farm no hunting or gathering of any kind (for the non tribal) Deer Numbers are terrible in there and with the new restrictions, i will not be buying a permit next yr for the first time since they started selling them. Pretty sad
-
I was in and out through out bear season and deer season and only seen 2 does. Will try my luck in hunting some predictors after Thanksgiving. Hopefully take some of them out.

I have an idea, how about a predator killing contest for the Hancock pass holders? Coyotes are 1 point, bobcats 2 points and cougars 3 points. Not sure how to keep people honest about where they made their kills, and I certainly don’t have the organization skills to run it or keep track. 20.00 a piece and run it till the end of March, maybe give 75% of the money to you favorite charity and winner keep the rest? I’d love to see Hancock or the state start a bounty program on predators!!

I think justyhunter and crowing hen would probably take all our money

Sounds like a challenge!!! 😁. I’m a complete rookie at predator hunting, but if I can go w jackmaster maybe we’d give them a challenge??!!

its actually good that you brought that up, if a guy doesn't atleast have a little expirience you can educate predators really quick, especially cougars and coyotes! bobcats are pretty dumb, if they are within ear shot they will usually come in but are tough to see here on the wet side , so if you have a buddy to go with that has some expeirience that would be best, plus it's better to hunt in pairs , we usually put the ecaller in between us and each look different directions and if your huntn Hancock and are forced to look at the same ground it's good to have a 12 ga with buckshot !!

Finally got it done in kapowsin during late archery! She isnt the biggest deer in the woods but she will eat really nice. 30 yard shot through a tiny hole in the reprod and i drilled her. Dumping rain made it hard to find her but thankfully she only went about 15 yards from where i shot her! Funny thing.. got her out and loaded in the truck and was thinking to myself.. going to see a buck on the way out. Half way out there was a big 3x3 in the middle of the dang road! Had to honk at him to get him out of the road and even then he just walked off like yeah you cant touch me!
-
That old school bow can still kill them

That's good to hear I'm heading up tomorrow with my muzzy. Congrats on the deer good eats!!

I have had that bow since i was 11, im 31 now. Its been hunting for 19 years and has killed 18 blacktails thus far. I keep thinking about replacing it.. but the draw is super smooth and it shoots super quiet compared to all my friends newer bows! Im thinking it will end up being replaced when i have kids and pass it down to them.

Well had a guy fly around a corner today up in the snow and it was either pull over hard or get in a head on. Ended up sliding off the road because of the slant and over the bank. Super super lucky my tire caught the edge of the road or I would have rolled. Had a couple guys stop when I was come alonging my way out and they hooked my strap up to there truck and we got it out. Pictures don't do the situation justice I was nervous. Didn't even get a scratch on the truck could have been much worse. Note to self, when planning on road hunting don't wear slippers. Feet were soaked and cold
-
Did the guy even stop to help? See any deer?
-

HELL NO he didn't. I told the guys that stopped that the guy had came flying around the corner. They said oh black dodge? I said yup they said oh ya he came flying around us passing and was sliding everywhere spinning out. I'd like to find that dude and give him a piece of my mind I was pissed.
No deer just some elk and tons of people which surprised me
-
Bridge gate side? I was up south of the river, and it was really coming down hard.
Coming around a tight corner, I met up with a coyote coming around the opposite way. He slammed on the brakes, did a small leap in the air and jumped off the side of the road, all the while I was digging for my pistol. :chuckle:
Couple hours later, I was nearing my favorite Christmas tree deer hangout, and a bobcat runs across the road not 20 yards in front of me, almost like running sideways watching me. I jumped out, and knocked an arrow, and tried to catch a glimpse, No dice.
Did see 5 deer total today without shot opportunities.
Always fun in the snow.
-
And no, I do not drive a black Dodge.

Ya man it was the bridgegate side! Sounds like a good day man that's bad ass. Lots of predators in there. Once I fill my deer tag it's game on for coyotes. The guys that helped me were Huntwa members they said. Casey and Corey. Bad asses it would have taken me a lot longer to use my come along then to have them pull with their truck
-
I was up there today from 2-4. Never saw a deer which was weird. Didn't see the black truck either.
