Title: Stumps and Teachermans NE WA line
Post by: TeacherMan on December 18, 2017, 11:00:30 AM
Deer season has finished and we have had a chance to get a few beaver so we got our cat line started and it hasnt taken long to start connecting! Here are a couple cats from this weekend. Only one pic of the second cat. I got it in a text from my dad this morning since I'm at work. He sent an awesome video but cant figure out how to post it. The last pic is from the cat in the trap today, cat #2. You can see video on my insta @cmb_ak. Thinking of doing a double mount fighting.

Congrats on a couple of nice cats. Curious to know what you have on the floor of your trap? Looks like it might be a deer hide? What are you using for bait?

we started with the hide and some scraps from this years deer, then added a bit of beaver for bait.

that was a chunk of deer hide that was rolled up and frozen with wire around it to tie up in the back of the trap. After you get a cat with that setup they will shred the hide. I just put it behind the pan at that point with a chunk of beaver and use the shredded hair to cover the bottom of the trap. Plus they will crap everywhere in it. At that point its a dynamite setup.

Been enjoying the journey.

Why don't you join f4wm and trap wolves by Priest Lake.  $1,000 bounty each.  I could possibly be helpful if you're interested.

All about time... I’m actually pretty good at wolf trapping too it just requires very specific gear that I don’t have have with me in the lower 48. All my wolf gear is at my place in AK.

A few pics from the weekend of one of the spots I set. I added a smaller box trap 10x12x30 (coon box really) to see if I can get the marten that is taking my bait. I've got gray squirrels in them before so figured its worth a shot... Who knows maybe an over zealous cat will try to get the bait in it  :chuckle:

Up in the NE corner of WA near the Idaho and Canadian boarders. Still in trapping from 12” to 4’ of snow but it’s been in mid 30s so not making for fun conditions.

Very nice wish we would get some snow down here instead of this hot rainy crap weather makes it hard to even catch a cold.

I’ve always wondered if a cougar would try to go into one of our bobcat boxes. My dad and I were out checking the line today we had this guy stick his nose into one of the boxes last night. I think his foot was 1/2 as wide as the opening on the box  :chuckle: It warmed up last night/today so there’s a little melt in this track but it is a HUGE CAT. I’m a really big guy and the tracks make my hand look small.

Wait 'till you are stumbling around in the dark looking for a trap you know a bear has made off with and all you have is that .22.

Really common to have cougars steal the bait out of my cat cages, ho hum.

That is a monster track though.

I see tracks all the time but this track was huge! I’ve had bears in AK destroy my line. I know we will be checking the line now with more than a 22.

Looking at the WDFW cougar quota's appears 113 could still be open.
