Good luck boys first year I’m not gone in the last 20 I’m not dealing with Snoqualmie Pass down to one lane and the elk have been gone for a couple of months from the feed lots

I’ve never been. Is the strategy to drive back in a bit and get away from the crowd or do you have better chances at trying to race everyone else for the easy pickings laying out in the open? For those that have gone before what would you recommend for a rookie shed hunter tomorrow in Joe Watt? Thank you in advance.

Just get in line , when they open the gates mash the skinny pedal and run as many folks off the road as you can :chuckle:. Or at least that's how it is @ Oak Creek. I'm not even waisting time going to Oak Creek tomorrow. There's been people camped out on Chinook pass for the last month + watching the big herd that was hanging on that side. Heard of one guy that swam the river just up from Horseshoe bend to get the set on a dead head , stupid almost drown coming back across .

I'll be there! Thinking drive up higher because of the warmer winter, heard they didn't feed much this year
-
Well anyone do any good at the opener??

So was it total craziness? I went to oak creek about 8 years ago on the opener. Got there the night before and there were TONS of people!! They opened the gates at dark and people just bombed in there in the complete blackness before they let any vehicles in.. after that I was like..... NOPE! I actually had the day off today and went somewhere else and didn’t see a soul out there and picked up a fatty 6 pt bull shed..

The 3 of us pickes up 12 today

First year I haven't gone to Joe Watt in many years. Even though my luck the last six years has been virtually nil, I still missed the hike in familiar country.
-
Amazing there's antlers to be found after hearing all the rumors that wolves have killed all the elk. :dunno:
-
they are antlers attached to the skulls.
-
There was definitely a crowd, I think we picked the a pretty busy chunk of woods saw about 20 people a ways off the road. It was fun ill probably go into it with a better strategy next year.

I am a new hunter (last season first season) and totally unfamiliar with this discussion: can someone clue me in? Sounds like a fun activity to bring my 9 year old to. Does anyone bring dogs?
