Has anyone here on Hunting WA ever been to the Ruby Mtns in Nevada and harvested one? It might be one to put on my bucket list of things I want to try and do before I can't. If you have been to the Rubies and bagged one tell me about the adventure. DIY or did you use a guide?

I think it looks like a great adventure myself.

I have four friends and former coworkers who have done it DIY, all have harvested at least one bird over their multiple trips. One had a jousting match using his shotgun barrel with a mountain goat billy, as both claimed right of way on a narrow ledge.

Badhabit,
What a beautiful Bird to have a shot at. Looks like The Ruby Mtns are a cross between The
Alpine Lakes Wilderness and Chukar Hunting on the Columbia Cliffs at Vantage WA.
DOUBLELUNG,
Those Great Northern RXR Goats can be real Pests, when they are out of Season! ;)

Moved up here from Winnemucca, NV. I always wanted to make it over there to get after one but never did. Loved it down there

Made the trip a few years ago. Special place. First day: wind, fog, rain, snow. One bird close range, no shot, just trying to survive while watching foot placement. Second day totally clear, several birds talking first light. No chances. Perfect, clear warm day. Sheep hunter died while we were hunting, rough country. Sure hope to do it again.

Nwwanderer, having never seen one myself its hard to really get a mental picture of how big they are. What would you compare them to? A wild turkey, a goose?

Strange colored double size blue grouse that talks like a chukar in the morning

The Rubys are tough to begin with and thown in the fact snowcock love the nastiest part of the mountain to roost and you got a hell of a hunt. Never targeted them but been up there. Snowcock hunting makes chukar hunting look lile pheasant hunting Kansas. Good luck if you go.
