Title: Antlerless Tags in Manastash and Colockum
Post by: weaksauce on August 07, 2018, 04:05:18 PM
Hey all.  Long time listener first time caller.  Ha ha - anyone remember where that's from?  Sorry, I'm off topic a bit.  It's probably not my first post - I've been around here for a number of years but would not have been successful without this forum.  My wife and I got our first elk a few years back and owe it to the great group of hunters on this site.  Skunked last year.  Two thumbs up for this wa hunt for sure.

On topic - I've ran into a bit of a conundrum this year - albeit a good one.  I drew Anterless colockum muzzy and the wife got the same tag but in Manastash.  Current thinking is to get it done in Colockum first and then buzz over to Manastash to finish things out.  We *could* split up - I have a group of guys in Colokum I could stay with a drop a camp for the wife in Manastash but I don't really prefer that for obvious reasons.  We don't know Manastash real well so we have spent the last few weeks scouting up there. -Beautiful place, but dam those mosquitos!  :bash: We have seen a few animals up there.  I've learned from experience that just because you see them before the season doesn't mean that they will be in the same spot.  The wife called Fish and Game and let them know that if anyone called looking to swap muzzy tags she would.  Mainly just throwing the tag swap offer out there, but if we end up having only a few days left in the season to get one in an area we don't know I wouldn't say no to a PM to help fill the tag. - and I know....you got a cow tag should be easy right? ha ha I know from experience that's not always true.

Thanks again all and mad respect to the forum members.

You should apply to hunt the wild horse wind farm.

If it were my wife and I, Id help her tag her freezer fair first, then if she was willing and able, have her tag along on my hunt with whatever time was left and get mine.   Every relationship, every person is different, so whatever floats your boat.   Goodluck!

Is filling a tag most important or is hunting with your spouse?
Is your hunting experience together or is it a share camp but hunt different areas experience?
Its probably a question you to should answer together and not listen to HW.

I can see why you'd want to hunt the Colockum permit first. It's a better hunt with a higher chance of being successful. And you already are familiar with the area, improving your chances even more. I think your plan is a good one.

Tom Lykus (or Leykis)! Yes! Ha ha. Blow me up tom (with your custom take me out style)....Leykis 101....I guess he is just on the internet now.  Ah man I'm getting old...

So as always there is some great feedback on here.  More to the story - when I first started to hunt I was very much alone.  I was at a point in my life where the gal I was with for 7 years had left and hunting turned into my new obsession. Learning to hunt help me out during one of the worst times of my life.  Hunting is in my blood now.  I always loved to explore and being away from her allowed me to explore the beautiful Washington state (she never wanted to go outdoors so we just did other things).  The whole hunting experience has filled my sole, and when I met my now wife she wanted to go hunting with me.  It was a very personal request at the time coming from a girl I hadn't made a commitment to. I felt like if I took her with me it would water the experience down.  Maybe I was just afraid that if I shared it with her I would she might ruin it for me like the last one did I don't know.  Ultimately I ended up letter her go with me scouting, and when I say we got our first elk, a few years ago I mean she got her first elk and so did I - within just a few days of eachother.  I thought I was doing good with a 80 yard muzzy shot, a few days later she got a spike with a 128 yard muzzy shot!

I miss the meat and she does too which is the priority.  X-Force I think you asked the right question, and I will pose that question to the wife next to see what she really thinks.  I had asked her what she wanted to do, only after voicing my opinion. Splitting up between the two areas covers the most hunting ground though the chances are better in colockum than manastash. Still dealing with tags and better than have two in one area and going for 1 cow and 1 spike.  I need to know what she really wants to do is the real answer.

Attached are a few photos from the wedding a few weeks ago and the hunt/freezer a few years ago.

Hey all.  Long time listener first time caller.  Ha ha - anyone remember where that's from?

Bob and Tom radio show.  It was from the Mr. Obvious skit.  Good stuff.

Good luck with your tags have an open and honest conversation with the wife.  Her opinion is just as valuable as yours.

I bet my wife's elk steak would taste sweeter than any elk steak I would harvest.

Hopefully you can fill both tags though.
