Please post pics of your cougar mounts, including name of taxidermist.
It looks like I’m going to get the chance to fulfill a life long dream of chasing cats at the end of December. In the lucky event I bring a good Tom home I plan on getting a life size, full mount done.
I’ve reached out to a few Taxidermist, a few of whom are sponsors / members of Hunt WA. This will most likely be a once in a lifetime type of hunt so I’m not about to cut any corners when it comes the taxidermist work.
Let’s see ‘em and please remember to include Taxidermist name in the event you are happy with the mount and overall experience. Thanks!

That's awesome. I don't do FB, but do you have a Taxi name?
-
Elkaholic that's amazing only 2 contact points on the cat. :yike: Huge amount of leverage
-
Scared the dog to death...
-
Or is that a taxi'ed dead antelope going under the lion, I can't tell

Wow, that's some of the best cats, I think I've seen.
-
Phil is the best, Leland and big cat taxidermy is very good as well
-
Done by zach at rainier taxidermy many years ago, still looks great. It’s on wheels so it’s easy to move around.

Nice mount! Love the hat!
-
My wife's mounts, done by Fred Peters in Graham. The lower jumping cat was done by a different taxi, it's not as good of mount.
-
Another mount above our front door, I like the mount but the face is not so good, done by a different taxi.

I think that's one of the coolest mounts I've seen! If we ever mount another cougar it might have to be like that.
-
Wow bearpaw! The cougar attacking bull is magnificent. Never seen such an impressive mount.
-
Natures way taxi out of spanaway. Don’t see him on here anymore hopefully still doing it.
-
Cant seem to find it, but a while back, maybe a couple years ago, somebody posted a pic of an open mouthed cougar shoulder pedestal mount done by one of the taxis on here, ring any bells? Id like to see the pic again.

How come it seems so hard to capture a cougar face?

90% of the lion mounts I see just look... off. Those Soucy mounts are about the best I’ve seen

I just got mine back about a month ago. We still have a lot to do with adding ferns, moss and some other stuff. We're tossing around the idea of a half round of a small fir tree with a couple straggly limbs, clear coated and butted up against the wall. Not 100% sure what else we will end up doing though. This is a 14 ft. chunk of old growth fir. we had to remove the trim around the living room window and hoist it inside with the crane on our shop truck. Then made dollies to roll it back against the wall. I also had to remove my gas stove, patch the flooring where the stove base used to be, then covered the wall in planking. After the log was mounted I put up some LED lighting behind the log. I wanted dim halogen lights, but didn't want the heat to cause a problem, so I found LEDs with the right color and intensity. I know, the pics aren't very great. My phone is messed up and I will get some better ones when we make some more progress. I mounted the cat walking on the log to the left, with it's head turned slightly left, because that's exactly how he was when I shot him. He was walking on a log 16 yards away and the sun was behind him giving him the same lighting effect.
EDIT: I'm not sure why the first one is upside down. so I appoligize.

Theres cats that look alive, like monsterbulls, and then theres those that just look plain ol" stuffed........

Can you at least PM me the name of the taxidermist. I’ve got a cat I’m looking to have done and I’d love to chat with him. I’ve also been look at these guys, http://www.clemmenstaxidermy.com/28501.html
They’re close to home but convincing the wife I need to drop $5000 on a lifesize cat that she doesn’t even want me to do is a tall order.

That might work if I had an extra 5G in the bank and she hadn’t already threatened divorce if I do it. At this point I’m halfway tempted to cut losses and get a rug done but this is a special cat, my first, and may make B&C all time. I really wanna do it justice.

Depending on where you go, typically you don't need all the money upfront. I have even had taxis turn down full payment until delivery. Not sure if that makes the financial burden any easier but something to consider.
Another option might be to have the cape tanned, then it's at least preserved and you can wait till your ready to have the job completed.
-
I wouldnt pay for 70% the mounts posted on here :yike:

Oh I get that, but even if I give up some hunts I wanna do like POW blacktails and Wyoming antelope over the next couple years my wife says “that cat will never be displayed in our house”. She really didn’t want me to even shoot one. I was after the meat as I’ve heard how delicious they are, ended up with a giant tom that everybody is telling me I need to mount because I’ll never get a better one.

Big tom shot in a cave. Tore up a couple dogs. 170 pounds with an empty stomach.

Toms I helped a couple of cousins harvest.

Good news is my dad wants a cat for his trophy room so I’m gifting him mine to mount and keep for a while and he says I can have it back in a few years if I can change the wife’s mind

Life size it! Check with wildlife creations in Coeur d Alene they should be quite a bit less than 5000. I posted one on this thread from probably 14 years ago. I don’t think the picture is very good but it’s a good mount. Most of the nice lions we tree get done there they are excellent at cats and reasonable
