My son drew Nooksack muzzle loader tag. We have talked to a few people about the unit. We are both pretty stoked about the hunt. Anyone who wants to share any info about the hunt. I'm willing to listen. We plan on hitting it hard during the early season for bugling bulls in the high country. Looking forward to screaming bulls.

I recommend calling and talking with the wdfw biologists. They will give you lots of good info.
There are elk on NF, DNR, Private even in the wilderness. It’s a hunt where you can make it as easy or as hard as you want.

Congrats!
Hope you and the boy have a blast.

I want to thank the guys for the info. Keep Er Coming!

Of the 3 seasons the ML is by far the best for the Nooksack. Do you have a Weyerhaeuser permit?

No Weyco permit

When I had it I bought the Weyco walk in permit. If they still have it it's worth getting. One permit holder in the area was the only company I had. I did run into a gentleman scouting for his muzzy tag and he said he had called Weyco after the draw and they hooked him up with a drive in permit. Not sure if that's standard or he was lucky, or he was telling me a line.
Be prepared to cover alot of country if looking for top end bull, and don't overlook any leads. I hunted very little in areas we hunted hard for my partners tag 2 years prior to my hunt. I can tell you the biggest bull I saw showed up where I never expected to see a bull of that caliber, and I had a brush with what im pretty safe to say was the governor bulll from this year on my hunt. I never expected to see a bull that rivaled him, but he showed up and was like no westside elk I have ever laid eyes on. I wish I could say it was a fun hunt, but for me it wasn't. It was good, but the most mentally frustrating elk hunt ever. Hopefully it's better with a bit better weapon and season timing! Good luck!

Looking for more info on good camping spots.
-
If you are still looking for a camping spot I own some RV property on the Skagit river west of Concrete. It is a dry camp with a covered fire pit and the access is behind 2 locked gates.
PM me if your interested.

Depending on where you are hunting brandy lake or cowboy camp (Medford rd) both have camping spots in the unit.

The weather has sucked, Bulls are silent. We have passed several small bulls. Haven't seen a big one yet. Still not lowering standards but that may happen.
-
It's interesting that your the 3rd person from the Vancouver, SW Washington area that has drawn the Nooksack tag this season. I have 19 points and still can't seem to draw it and I live right here. :dunno:

I just saw a pic of a beautiful 6x6 a friend got with his bow. I don't have permission to post it, but keep at it, you know what that unit holds. Good luck!

Hunting can change in a split second keep at it!

Probably passed 20 bulls on my archery hunt. Only saw 1 over 300 in 12 days. Had him at 95 till he was shot by a rifle from a vehicle. Bunch of rag 5 and 6s. They were vocal early and late the last few days of the hunt. Especially up high.

I don't think the draw takes where you live into consideration. :dunno:

Nope, all the good bulls are gone. You guys with 19 points might as well stop putting in for this tag.
...actually, steep and deep is a good way to get a big one, or just get lucky.
