Title: Horsepower...
Post by: gramps on July 25, 2019, 12:32:52 PM
Back when it came from, well...Horses.

The date on this photo is smudged and I can't read it, but I am guessing the  1930's or '40's.

It was a draft horse demonstration and sale at my families homestead along the Milk River (Wahkpa Chugn) in Blaine county, Montana.
Grand father with a couple Percherons.

My grandfather fed some of his cattle in the winter well into the 80's with draft horses.

Draft horse pulls are always interesting to watch, particularly when some of the stoked up teams have a breakaway and go careening around all over the place scaring the hell out of everyone that doesn't want to get ran over or beaned in the head with a singletree or evening bar.   They can quickly turn into an "every man, woman and child for themselves" moment. Been there, done that on a couple of occasions.  :yike:
