Have a kayak thread in waterfowl.
But lately been lake fishing out of them. Thought of starting this thread for general tips and tricks no matter how you use your yak.
Been doing little modifications on mine. Let’s here your ideas.
I have two H 12 Asends and just picked up a H 10 used for my wife to try a short yak.
The H 10 was owned by a elderly fellow who’s heath got bad. Only had it a year.
Like new. Except missing the rear cloth hatch cover.
Here’s what I have done so far to it.
Added foot threads,
Put threads on seat rails too. To protect hull.
Made hatch covers out of paver mats.
Added a grab line to lower my self in seat.

The yard stick is double face taped to measure fish.

Ill try to find it, but key west kayak fishing youtuber has a snazzy DIY anchor quick release for playing big fish.
I haven't done anything special for my SOT, but I did use some cut up cheap foam sleep pad pieces to keep my butt dryer.

Wife made good use of her shorter H 10 tonight.
-
For those thinking about a H 10 vs a H 12.
The H 10 is a little more tippy the wife says.
The extra 2 ft. On the H 12 makes it a lot more stable.

Are you strictly hunting waterfowl?

Are you strictly hunting waterfowl?
No
I will hunt anything that creeps or crawls around the hills. The yak is just another tool to get where I need to go.

Two large ones showed up today.
Look well made.
Fit the boat fine.

Well it rained a couple times on the yak with covers on, some water puddled on the covers.
But none soaked through.

Getting the yak set up for duck hunting . Going to float my dog in a separate dingy this year. Just got the dog ramp yesterday. Plan is to tow her to our hunt spot than set up. Let the dog retrieve out of the dingy long side the yak.
No firm ground to be had.

Be safe and careful.
