Title: Elk Countdown
Post by: vandeman17 on August 15, 2019, 09:46:14 AM
Two weeks from today, the old man and I will be hitting the road for the Eagle Caps and a 10 day pack in elk hunt. Anybody else have any trips coming up here for the opener of elk?

Not hitting the opener in the Gem State, but, buddy and I are pulling out on the 12th for two weeks.  After giving a bunch of frozen packets of elk meat a ride back to my freezer in Raindeer, WA, and going to work a few days (barf).... I'll be off to shoot a bull with my new smoke pole in the Evergreen State.  Twitch, twitch, fidget, fidget, twitch..... :whoo:

You really should consider retirement. I hear it’s great. 😁😂😂😂

Still another 4 weeks from today of waiting for me.  Backpacking into an Oregon wilderness area mid-September with my longtime pals for archery elk.    That's usually the most active week for that herd.  I'm driving the wife, dogs, and neighbors crazy with my practicing of calls.  :-)

My WA elk hunt will be rifle season this year due to my WA hunting partners travel schedule preventing us from doing archery or muzzy this year.

I'll be out stomping around in the NE corner for all three seasons. First, I'll be tagging along with my girlfriend as she has an archery tag. My good buddy from Hartline and I will be out with our smoke poles camping the entire muzzy season. Then, I'll be taking my two boys out with their rifle tags. Lots of time out in the elk woods.

I'll be back packing in the Jarbrige wilderness of Nevada on Spet. 1st with a smoke pole
hoping to kill a big bull.

I'll be in the Sawtooth for the first 10 days of September with my bow trying to lure a bull in with my seductive cow calls.  My old man is tagging along but won't be much help beyond keeping the fire going at base camp and pumping any locals at the watering hole for information.

Not opening day but I’ll be heading to Idaho in about 3 weeks or so. Have all day hospital appointments on the 12th then heading over on the 13th for 1-2 weeks looking for something that wants a ride in the big red truck!

11 more days! My buddy is willing to shoot a cow so hopefully will have an elk down opening weekend. Good elk numbers in my new stomping grounds this year.

I have a B tag so have to wait until October, but will be nice to play instead of work for once.

Backpack in the Eagle Caps starting 9/13. Hard to wait that long when the season opens tomorrow!

And "guiding" in western WA for the opener.  Have an eastern WA archery tag with no special permit, which won't get hunted.

If things go right, a week from today I should be just about riding into our camp. Its crunch time now to make sure the bow is dialed in and gear is all ready to go

Idaho Sept 6-14th and Montana in more of an assist role the 20th-25th. The best thing about elk season is that it means rifle deer season is getting closer

Good luck to ya.  I'll be in Idaho next month and then poking around here with a rifle.
