Title: New world record
Post by: jasnt on September 03, 2019, 06:36:39 AM
Cut and paste from Accurate Shooter...

Congratulations to Randy Wise for set new world record at Camp Atterbury. Randy made a cold bore hit and two follow up shots at 2158yards, with his stock savage action and barrel in an Accurate Rifles Systems chassis. This was done with a 338 Lapua mag. and 300gr. Berger hybrids. Congrats Randy. Sorry forgot to say this was at 2019 NRA NATIONALS ELR EVENT.

Three shots three hits including cold bore, 36" x 36" steel target.

There have been several people asking about the equipment used so here is a rundown, Target was 2158, no spotter, 3 shots, cold bore and two followers, 36x36 Target, rifle was bought used with only 3 rounds fired and is a factory Savage 112 Magnum Target Action and Barrel 1-9 twist 26” long, rifle basics trigger, ARS Chassis, Ivey Adjustable Mount, Vortex Golden Eagle scope, 300gn Hybrid .338 Berger Bullets, Lapua Brass, Retumbo Powder, Federal 215M Primers, Henry Rempel Bi-Pod and StrelokPro Ballistic App. $4100.00 was my total cost for the rifle as fired. Total round count on rifle including the match is 132. I hope this answers most questions.

And just think all the big sniper forums crap on Savages.

That's true of a lot of hobbies. There is nothing more threatening to a hobbyist who can afford all the best gear than someone buying consumer-grade equipment and outperforming them with it.

just goes to show you can’t just throw money at a hobby to be good at it

Not to take away anything from this accomplishment, or from Savages for that matter, but it was hardly a stock Savage,
"with his stock savage action and barrel in an Accurate Rifles Systems chassis."
Just sayin...

Was nothing said about a stock Savage rife, just that the barrel & action was stock Savage... unless the barrel had been changed or the action modified, don't see any problem with the statement as it was.

Just say'in...   :dunno:

Great job to the shooter!!

 :yeah:

Went to a coyote tourney put on by the Sportsmans Warehouse one time, and a couple guys showed up dressed to the nines with all the latest gear and $1200 AR's and everyone else felt like throwing in the towel. We went out for the day and came back with three dogs after spotting about 20 and they came back with one. We won the pot and afterward everyone ate pizza and those two guys left without being cordial. Must have been frustrating knowing we did better with stock rifles and basic hunting scopes.

Understand what you are saying but the ELR Rifle Chassis alone start at $1500.00.
Their Bench Chassis start at $1000.00.

One thing not mentioned is he had both his hands crushed and his trigger finge is actually put back together with remnants of his ring finger.    Factory barreled action with trigger upgrade and quality chassis competing against full custom builds
This particular range is well known for its very tricky and ever changing winds.  Dosent matter what he was shooting it’s quite the feat.

Petty sure this was just broke. Reading on AR15 a guy just made a new record of 7070 yards , that's a tick over 4miles   :yike:

that was not a record.  They were just gathering dope.  That was global precision group or team GPG.  For record attempts you most not have shot in 24 hours and must make cold bore and both follow up shots with no spotter or coach.   GPG got one impact between 3 shooters and over 75 rounds sent down range.   Basically just having fun and practice

With all the members on this forum alone i would think that a serious ELR comps could be put together in this state,With serious prize pools.  :twocents:
I'M NOT THE GUY TO PUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS TOGETHER BUT I AM CERTAIN THAT SOMEONE HERE COULD.Find all interested parties and put together some plan to have at least monthly comps and maybe a roster could be put together.
Name it,Figure entry fee,Charge an annual ???? Whatever it is that has to be done to be legit.

Need judges,Range boss,Targets,Permits,etc.
