Atl

Nice bull lewy!

I forgot to take an ATL pic. It was only a pesky Methow whitetail doe anyway.

My favorite annual thread! Congrats to all successful hunters so far!
-
Did velvet go late this year? Seems like I've been seeing a LOT of it. Kinda cool.
-
Did he jump the string? Did I jerk the trigger? Did I aim for 30 instead of gapping for 26? dunno, but he didn't go far.
-
Did his collapse push the arrow back out? I've seen a lung shot that only penetrate several inches take down a deer like that very quickly. Nice job

No. the head hit smack dab in the middle of the spine and stopped under the hide on the off side. I did end up forcing it through to get it out, as it wouldn't pull out backwards. Too much broken bone in the way.

I like that one!

Even if it doesn't hit the spinal cord, a shot like that right immediately under the vertebral column and a little back will hit the aorta and will be fatal *extremely* quickly. This explains the occasional extremely rapid death of deer shot "way too high" that don't get hit in the spine.

I'll say it did. Vaporized the back half of your deer. :chuckle:
-
Not a classic ATL photo, but pretty cool anyway.
-
He was trying to go up hill, exhaled a bunch of blood and sat back on his haunches in perfect photo position.

Great pictures.

Washington state opening day bucks.
Is that a bullet hole on his antler?
Yep!! My buddy hit him on his first shot but took another shot as he trotted off and as was bounding away the deer dropped as he shot and he just about blew off his antler. We are still giving him heck about it too!

I did that with a 3 pt Blacktail a few years back. Shot him right in the heart, and when he was making his short death run, I sent another round at him and blew a chunk out of his main beam!

Eastern, WA

Hiked up a ridge well before dawn Sunday and intercepted this stout whitetail crossing a patch of public land above some Okanogan ag fields.
After years of hunting muleys in the North Cascades highcountry and coastal blacktails in both WA and AK, it feels great to finally notch a tag on a flagtail. Now I need to plan an AZ coues hunt to round out my deer slam.

Nice bucks, all. Congrats!
-
Dirt nap, grass nap, and rotting leaves for the Blackie. Nice pics guys! Good finishes to the season.
I just love seeing those BT shots. Even a smallish buck like this guy seems glorious to me. Gorgeous animals (in my biased mind).
-
Blue mountain backcountry. This little guy was hard earned. Put well over 30 miles down in 2.5 days of hunting. Got him the third morning. Caught his backbone right behind the shoulder with the first shot, finished in the neck
-
Eastern, WA
Way to post a pick of a background everyone will recognize!!!! :chuckle:

And a decent stand of winter wheat too

The bull was fun! My mom and i just went to town on it as he lay. That clump of trees actually held him up well. My mom's awesome. I owe that whole hunt to her!

First hunting success!

I get 2 ATL pics. 1st one is seconds after he dropped thru spotter. 2nd one he did a couple kicks that sent him rolling for 100yards, ending up in the bottom, tucked into the dry creek cut.

This pic follows a 90 minute track job on my son’s first buck, a coues in Arizona from just before Thanksgiving. Blood ran out and we started doing circles from the last spot, and stumbled on the buck still kicking. Kid put another one in him, here is the scene. Buck is laying in the trail to the left.
