Let’s give the grey ghosts their own thread this year. They are a special breed of deer, unlike all others. Opening day for modern tomorrow, let’s see your 2019 blacktails as they fall! Yes please, add BTs taken by any other method also (archery, ML, spear, etc.).
-
Good luck out there! Hoping I get to post one up in here this year.
-
Good luck this morning and safe shooting!

Superb bucks. Congrats to both of them! That second one appears to have been a year or two short of a full blown jaw-dropping drop tine. Very cool!

I haven’t notched my archery tag yet, but my best friend called yesterday for some help on this toad! (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191020/684711db9ff3b2d25f876c8378fe88c1.jpg)

-
Absolute toad 3nails, a huge congrats. Makes me want to head out for an evening hunt ;)
-
Got this one Sunday afternoon. Seems like it gets tougher every year. One might think I am a bad hunter but I hear vey few shots fired anymore so I am not the only one struggling. 9 days hunting and this was only the 12th deer seen.
Not proud of the shot I made but the moment the scope covers came off the lenses were instantly plastered with rain. I had a very difficult time seeing horns which should have been very apparent. First shot was high, second in the shoulder and I could tell he was hit bad but with only a hundred feet to the brush I put a third into his shoulder to put him down.
Then about 2 miles with the cart.
I was really kicking myself for that shoulder shot but surprisingly little meat wasted.
In the freezer so the works done now. On to elk!
-
Nice buck!
-
Nice buck Bruce.
It's the same in our neck of the woods. Opening day you would hear at 5-6 shots at first light. Last year I didn't hear one shot all day. This year I did hear 2 shots. Its definitely not what it was even 5 years ago.
-
Less hunters in the woods? The stats say yes, though on my evening hunt last night, I got surrounded by five or six other rigs coming into the area after I settled in to a spot. I was expecting to have the place to myself. I agree though, many fewer shots at first and last light than in recent history.
Nice buck Humptulips! Congrats!
-
Well my 11 year old got it done . 1st year hunting and executed a perfect shot. FYI hunters orange was removed for the pics. Couldn't be prouder of this young man .
-
Little 3x from the 20th. We double downed on 3’s that day.
-
Good ones guys!
-
Average Decatur Island deer, second day of archery season.
-
What happened the first day?
-
Lokidog - the smile on your face says it all
-
Great archery BT buck Loki, congrats!
-
Guy from work got this one last saturday.
-
Now that's a 3pt

Nice deer bigbore40 jr. I don't see many spikes that tall in my neck of the woods.
-
Nice job everyone! Keep them coming. I want a big blacktail so so bad. Definitely the hardest mature deer to hunt in north America.
-
We got behind the gate just before shooting light and hunted into our spot. My son had a plan to keep moving the whole day while I sat and glassed. The storm came in hot at around 10 am heavy rain and winds and the fog blew in for about an hour. This put my glassing to an end so I walked back down to where he had left his pack and posted up on a cliff above the reprod. Fog lifted and I could see the road below me and around noon my son came creeping down it. He disappeared around the corner and five minutes later I hear his shot directly followed by the bucks dying bleat very loud up the valley about 800 yds from where I was sitting. Buck down I grabbed his pack and hiked down to him. He field dressed it himself which he had never done and did a fine job. Mile and a half drag and we were on our way home. Super proud of this kid hes come a long way since our first hunt 7 years ago . He had the audacity to tell me I needed to get a .243 cuz it only takes one shot.

Got this one yesterday morning. Freezers getting empty and wanted to break in the new .264 win mag. Dropped it in its tracks at 349 yds with 140gr Berger's
-
Nice Buck! Congrats.
-
Vary thankful for an opportunity at this guy with only a couple of mornings to hunt this season. Had to take a neck shot with 7MM Rem at 35 yards at he pocked his head over a stump to look at me. The 3 does with him kept him from busting just long enough.
Sorry for the bad pictures, storm was coming in and I still haven't quite mastered the whole selfie thing.

That is a nice buck Bruce.
I also remember when I first started hunting in the 60s and into the 70s, all the shots you'd hear. We hunted from the old family homestead on the Mox Chehalis Rd up into Capitol Forest and sometimes the Sand Creek side. All the families that lived up the road had big hunting parties in those days and drives were how most of them hunted. Some still hunting went on too but there weren't many clearcuts then for spot and shoot or spot and stalk. On the weekends, you would hear shots all day long down at the ranch house. Wasn't uncommon for different parties to get multiple deer in a day. I can remember a couple of drives our family made that produced 3 bucks on one drive.
-
Two more nice bucks. Good shooting guys!

He ran straight down hill into a bit of a nasty spot, lucky for me he tumbled down closer to the lower road, a much better drag out for sure. Wasn't too bad but that stuff is in every one of my fingers now.
-
Got this little guy this afternoon, he was harassing a doe and raking trees. 450 yards with .300 win mag, did a mule kick and was down. Happy to have him in the fridge after a frustrating last season.
-
Helluva shot shaq, congrats.

:yeah: Got 'er done!

Wheelbarrow was used from my Jeep to the garage only. Luckily, another hunter came buy and helped with the drag to the Jeep.

I drive a Silver 2001 Tacoma with a white canopy. Maybe will run into you during late buck. I can't get out there anymore this week cause of work.

Nice buck Kevin.

so about 530 last evening saw this guy standing on my shooting berm 100 yards away. staring at what I thought was the house now I think he was looking at my archery deer target I have put at the back of my greenhouse. plowed him with my open sight 358 browning. really cool with his black patch between the eyes and busted off points. roman short nose was really cool. rutted up and stunk bad. late night rigging him up and skinning him but made it to work by 6 am. big boy still running around so hopefully wife gets a crack at him late season. This deer had a 3 foot long scrape down his back--don't know if it came from a fight or ? think he was a fighter...hope he spread his DNA ...nice buck. last pic was where the 200 grain accubond hit him. only time I have never had a bullet pass through...thoroughly pulverized his lungs. no exit and no blood trail. only 30 feet away from where I shot him

Yes, we have video of him going back to early summer. He's the first buck I've shot that I got on camera.
-
Love that buck Justy. Congrats to all the successful hunters.
-
First blacktail. I've been hunting the area for the last 4-5 years and Sunday I was finally in the right place at the right time. I was gathering my gear after a nature break and I see this guy staring at me. I got my scope on him and saw that he was a shooter and then he starts walking towards me at an angle. At 25 yards he came into an opening and only went another 25 yards after the shot.

Checked a few cams today. This guy was out sniffing around at 1930 on 2 NOV. He's my target for this thread. Only caught him once though. Refreshed some apple and cob snackage for the does; perhaps I'll see him again the end of next week, during the daylight ;)

Almost looks he’s only got 1 antler?
He had both, the ride side is just weak and acorned. Old buck, rotten and missing teeth that I'm guessing at 7-8 years old. Wish he was matched but wasn't going to let him walk.

Late buck in the San Juan Islands.
-
Oldest son got it done yesterday. 17 yards with my knight ultralight 50 cal . He did not have much time to hunt this late season which made it even better he was able to seal the deal on the opener of the late season. We spent the morning on Elk and after spotting 2 mature bulls at first light but unfortunately were not able to make it happen after a awesome and very exciting stalk trying to close the distance. We decided to not continue after the bulls concerned we may push them out of the area ,so instead we went to another unit to see if we could drum up a buck for him. And things couldn't have worked out better for him . Well that's it for 2019 all deer tags are notched .
-
More great bucks being posted! Nice job everyone!!
