Title: Eastern Washington Coon Club Needed
Post by: bornforhorns on December 08, 2019, 06:28:22 PM
I really wish we had some safe and open to public hunting places that held good populations of coons.

I really envy the mid-west states and there heritage of coonhunting.  Imagine a few area clubs being able to come together for some competition hunting early fall and some pursuit and harvest seasons later.  At least pursuit for a majority of the year to keep dogs in shape and in tune.

I really wish there was a program for taking nuisance coons and placing them in areas where they could be hunted by hounds.  I'll bet a few of the ag guys and orchard guys would be supportive of it. :chuckle:

First time I went to Hog Lake (many years ago), I was putting tracking collars on my dogs, finished with my first dog, an awesome Cameron Bluetick named Whisper, let her go and started working on the second dog, a Smokey River Bluetick named Sarge.  Before I could finish collaring up Sarge, Whisper was near the Restroom killing a porky.  Grrrrr  Had to take her to the Vet as her mouth was jammed packed with quills.  She did that to me 3 more times before I sold her to a guy in Utah, since they did not have many porkys down there..  She was an outstanding lion and bobcat dog, but about every third or fourth time I freecast her she'd come back full of quills.

Honestly im surprised that they still allow hounds for coons.  Cant use em for lions bobs or bears.  Its just a matter of time before some animal rights group decides that this is the next crusade they can use to con a bunch of bleeding hearts into donating money, and then it will start.

Funny you say this. I was telling a guy today what's next racoons...beagles chasing rabbits. Labs retrieving ducks or pointers hunting pheasants? Where does it end?
