What do you suppose they mean by that?

I suspect they’ll cap the non resident licenses for spring bear and turkey where they’re currently at.

Stopping non residents/closing the whole season down is a big difference.Good for them by doing the right thing a letting residents hunt/fish during these times.I wish WDFW was funded by licences sales /cause I think there tone would be a lot different towards there residents.
Hopefully everybody that has already got tags will continue to hunt.

No more purchase of NR tags, licenses, etc. until the emergency subsides.  NRs can still purchase annual license and apps for fall hunts.  Any tag/lic purchased prior to this call remain valid.

WA state and its closures were specifically cited as a big reason for ID doing this  :chuckle:

I'm really starting to think fall hunts could get screwed up if this virus follows typical influenza seasonal patterns.

Elk camp might be short a few guys this year  :o

I got mine 1st day,  bro got his a day or two later,  checking on the rest of the crew but I'm betting there's a few procrastinators this'll eliminate.

What does suck is I only bought one wolf tag, thinking if I got one I'd buy another tag later.

So with the uproar on here with some people about guys going antler hunting, wanting to hunt youth turkey and spring bear, do you same guys hate Idaho for letting their residents hunt and fish?  I mean, how selfish is Idaho? They’ll probably be the next epicenter!

If you’re talking about me, I don’t hate Idaho. I don’t hate anyone. I do think people need to use common sense and understand the restrictions put on us are aimed at the travel aspect and not the hunting aspect. It seems very obvious to me yet folks keep going back to the “I don’t see anyone else in the woods” thing and that’s not at all what it’s about. I’m not sure if people don’t understand that for some reason or just choose to ignore it. So which one is it?

If Washington hadn't closed spring bear, I couldn't blame a person a bit for using their tag.

Idaho is keeping things open,  I have 800+ bux of tags and licenses in my pocket,  I'm going to use them unless they close the season like WA did.

Then I will seek a refund.

"It is what it is" - regarding different states doing different styles of lock downs, we can't change any of it here.

The animosity being shared on this HW forum isn't going to change anything in the real world,  all you can do here is cause discontent,  and cause others to not enjoy your presence.

Personally I think they’re just making recommendations right now to see how the future holds out. Wouldn’t surprise me if they shut it down. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

So do people understand the goal is not to stop you from hunting? It’s to keep people in their own communities limiting the risk of spreading it to a different community with low to no case counts. You have a lot of cases in your county. Garfield county has zero cases right now. Walla Walla county has 8 positive cases. They’d like to keep it that way.

When Washington “shut down” hunting, we had a lot more cases than Idaho currently has I believe.

I'm not trying to be the bearer of bad news .But I've seen a few campers, dirtbiker,ECT. The past few days and this mourning as a matter of fact.
The longer the shutdown stays the more   recreation will continue to the point that nobody will even care that we are shutdown.
I guess what I'm saying is with so many essential places to go and do things .At some point They will only be hurting sportsmen on the lock down. And quite a few of us believe we are at that point now.

It’s not about who it’s hurting. It’s about who we’re not hurting.

But again, the “essential” stuff is supposed to be in your own area as much as possible. I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s ultra frustrating but saying screw it does nothing to get this over with.

I get it the travel issue is what it's all about .
There is two sides of the coin/ or two sides of the state. All of hunting got shutdown cause people won't stay on there side of the state.
So As a eastsider I could say I got screwed over by all the west side hunter. Now let's add Idaho into this ,even they are gonna honor non-residents tags that have already sold.Washington won't honor permits they already awarded, and don't want to refund anything .I say 👎 👎 👎

Nonresident licenses, permits, and tags sales temporarily suspended by F&G Commission

Nonresidents who purchase a 2020 hunting license may still apply for controlled hunts that will occur this fall.
At their April 4 meeting, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission adopted a rule that temporarily suspends the sale of several types of nonresident fishing and hunting licenses, tags, and permits.  The action is effective immediately and lasts until the rule is repealed consistent with relevant state of Idaho public health orders.

The Commission found this rulemaking supportive of the protection of public health consistent with the March 25 Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Order to Self-Isolate for the State of Idaho in response to COVID-19.

Fishing and hunting licenses, tags, and permits purchased by nonresidents prior to the April 4 Commission action are still valid for existing hunting, fishing, and trapping seasons, which remain in effect.

Nonresident hunting licenses along with currently available nonresident deer and elk tags are not included in the suspension. Nonresidents who purchase a 2020 hunting license may still apply for controlled hunts that will occur this fall.

The Commission action does not affect Idaho residents and there are no new limitations on resident purchase of licenses, tags, and permits or any changes to existing seasons.

Nonresidents and resident hunters, anglers, and trappers are reminded about state of Idaho guidance for outdoor recreation: follow social distancing directives of at least 6 feet, day trips are encouraged, check before heading out because many recreation sites are closed, and bring your own supplies. Outfitting and guiding are permissible with adherence to outdoor recreation guidelines.

The east west argument is so worn out its absurd.  Yes a few tags you designate east or west but this pandemic is not an east west thing. It's global.  Global.

It sure sounds to me like the East siders don’t want us wet siders coming over there and I completely understand. But how many East siders will be coming over to the wet side to go out on their lingcod, bottomfish, or halibut trips. On may 5 the day after this order hopefully expires the virus will still be here so we will still be possibly infecting people, so let’s all be team wa not teams East west.

It won't be an issue, they aren't going to open fishing and keep hunting closed.   It'll all open at the same time.

Im pretty sure that if you didn’t  buy your Idaho license already then you will be unable to do so as a non resident until the temporary ban ends. You can only buy deer and elk tags if you already have a license and you are unable to buy “spring time” game tags if you are a non resident even if you already have a license.

:yeah: Agree 100%, and idaho is advising recreationists, residents and non-residents, to bring what you need and not empty local stores, to practice social distancing, a much more intelligent way of managing hunting and fishing IMO.

I am receiving guidance on best practices for operating my outfitting business in Idaho. In WA a blanket closure, even though I have turkeys and bear hunting available without even going through town.

That’s because they are allowing purchase of general hunting license, 3 yr hunting license, deer & elk tags and controlled hunt applications. It’s already taken effect, go try to buy a bear or turkey tag right now.
