I'm in the market for a new pellet rifle, are there really any quiet ones out there? Any recommendations ? I currently shoot a very nice RWS but it's pretty loud. Thanks in advance .

I have a Umarex Torq that is pretty quiet. Once I finally found a pellet that it likes, it is very accurate out to about 60 yards.

A bit of hijacking here, what is accurate? At 20 and 60 yards, what group can you get with the Torq?

20 yards, a ragged hole, 60 yards about a 3" group. That is shooting the Gamo Red Fire pellets. They are the only ones that shot to my standards out of about 7 different pellets. Mine is the .177cal, not the .22 also

Also hijacking, I've not found a quiet pellet rifle. I now use Aguila 22 Colibrí / Long Rifle Subsonic Powderless Lead Bullet or super Colibri. All you hear is the hammer drop.

I have a Gamo Whisper, I can shoot all day, my neighbors would have no clue I was shooting a pellet rifle.
It has been a great rifle.

My neighbors are A-OK, they shoot some themselves. It's my family and what's in the frying pan for dinner I'm working on.

I have a benjamin NP2 break barrel in .22 cal. It has a shrouded barrel and built in "suppressor". It's pretty quiet.
I've heard that some of the PCP air rifles are VERY quiet. Benjamin Marauder in .22 cal or .25 cal is a popular entry level one for about $500. I don't have one.....yet....

What pellets have you found work for it best? I think that is what I have and basic lead pellets have not been shooting well out of it. Seems some places say you need to shoot pellet guns clean (get mfg oil etc out) before they start working well. I have probably 30-40rnd thru mine and it is just all over the place.

Buy you a Marauder gen 2 in 25 cal very quiet and very accurate. They are a PCP pellet gun

The PCP’s are the way to go for quite and accurate and no recoil. Sub 2” groups at 100 yards should be expected. Looks up some YouTube videos. I don’t have one yet but they sure are impressive and you can get them full auto if want to.

I have the gamo whisper 10x 22 cal. bought it a few weeks ago. it is pretty accurate just plinking around. i haven't actually set up to shoot paper, but will soon. I only paid 140 bucks for it at Bi Mart. well worth the money!!
my priority has been trying to find ammo for my 22-250 i just bought so i can go get some coyotes.

Will they kill racoons?
-
My Whisper will earhole a coon at 75 feet
Edit: not the original scope, 4x40 leupold

Benjamin Fortitude is extremely quiet and accurate.

I wish it came in a .25 caliber. If they come out with one, I'll own another!
Trigger leaves a little to be desired but the fix is easily found on youtube and easily performed. The ambidextrous stock is a little thicker in the grip than I prefer but it's not excessive.
Trigger Mod. I put a slight bend in the hammer spring per the videos and changed that stiff trigger return spring to one taken from a ball point pen. I don't think I added the two screws to the back of the trigger group but may have. I'd have to pull it apart to verify. Here's one of the videos...No extra charge for the smoky sexy voice... :chuckle:
Will they kill racoons?
Yes. But I prefer the .25 for raccoons.

The Marauder has always been a great recommendation. It's a lot of PCP for the money. The Fortitude appears to be a downgraded Marauder. No wood stock option, no .25 option and a factory trigger that needs a little work.

Yes they will

Great. Now in 2 days I won’t be able to find BB’s and pellets for my kids :chuckle:

It sounds really stupid, but check your local laws. Pellet guns are illegal in lots of spots. Daisy won’t even sell them in King Co. There are a bunch of municipalities that have written their laws in such a way that they’re illegal to shoot anywhere but a range. Just another one of MANY reasons I don’t live in King Co.

Is that actually a 15 lb airgun? Holy cow would need an African packer to carry it.
ETA- Airgun Depot lists it at 8.8 lbs.

You sure about that, might want to let Tractor supply and Walmart know as these are in stock in Kent and Renton :dunno:

And i concur, MANY reasons to not live in King co.

Pretty sure. Outside of local ordinances like Renton and Burien etc banning them, manufacturers won’t ship to certain cities and counties. In fact, the way the verbiage is written you could technically argue that Nerf guns are illegal.
Outside of that, the fact that a store sells it doesn’t make it legal. Expandable broadheads were sold here forever and only legalized like 3 yrs ago. Tannerite is illegal anywhere but private property. Barbed hooks aren’t legal in some spots. The onus falls on the buyer.
9.50.200 Unlawful use of air guns – Penalty.
(1) It is unlawful for any person to point or shoot an air gun at any person or property of another, or to aim or discharge such weapon in the direction of the person or residence of another, while within such range as to cause or inflict injury to the person or damage the property of another.
(2) As used in this section, “air gun” means and includes the following: air gun, air pistol, air rifle, BB gun and toy or other guns of any kind or nature when so designed, contrived, modified and used to propel, by compressed air or spring-loaded plunger, any pellet, dart, hard-tipped arrow, bean, pea, BB, rock or other hard substances a distance of more than 25 feet with sufficient force to break windows or inflict injury upon persons or animals.
(3) Any person convicted of a violation of the provisions of this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and, in addition to any other punishment imposed by the court, the court shall direct that the weapon so used in violation of the provisions hereof be confiscated, and shall thereafter be disposed of in accordance with statutes or ordinances governing the disposal of confiscated or found weapons. With the majority of ‘spring piston’ pellet guns (RWS is one) you have to use a pellet over 9.5 grains to get sub sonic in the .177 caliber. That will eliminate a LOT of the noise. 10.5 is better. Then it takes finding the pellet it likes and working on your ‘Artillery Hold’, which the ‘single pump’ spring piston guns require to shoot accurately. Good luck!
