Figured I better get this going. I did find an old chalky two point muley shed this weekend but left it at my cabin without taking a pic. Still a little early for the brown gold to be hitting the ground hard but it is starting. I have seen a few unicorn spike deer and one small raghorn bull packing just one side. That really seems early.
Good luck to you guys and gals and please hold off on the hard shed hunting until spring. I'll come back and post a pic of the one I stumbled on while working my property this weekend when I get back up there.
-
Really early for elk, I hope your message is heard, hold off till spring please! The more popular shed hunting gets, they more pressure on the herds too early. Good luck this year all, be patient.

I didn't get a close enough look to see if he was broke off. Maybe he just got his butt and antler handed to him by a big guy. I had 7 other big bulls all still packing, they normally don't drop until february around my place and they have normally moved up higher when they do drop.
-
Agree, saw a bruiser this morning!!
-
Definitely early. Elk here are packing.
-
Let's go chase all the elk and deer to death! :bash:
Good grief people. Wait at least until Easter

:dunno: Did you read any of the posts? Both of us are advocating to wait and be patient.

This is why I never respond.

I Was out pulling a trail cam out of the jungle today and found a wonky Rosie elk shed. Weirdest one I think I’ve ever found.
-
that thing is weird!
lets get some more sheds on here!!
-
All in due time, no need to put pressure on the animals, the sheds will come.
-
Just a day or two late on this one
-
I picked up a couple old ones working on the property. Everything around my place is still packing, bucks and bulls.
-
On the board for 2021, these 2 sheds were right next to my girlfriends house

Cameras have all 3 bucks with dropped antlers about 2 weeks ago 1 looks like it dropped a while ago.. 2 3 pts 1 2 point all bachelored back up lowland blacktail around 500 ft.. Had food blocks and salt up.. Nothing touched the salt but a big sow with 2 cubs came in around Jan 15th and ate everything in about 2 minutes.. Went looking after work today no luck.. But after seeing these bucks today makes me wonder how much one can actually hurt these blacktails by hiking around early.. They didnt seem to care about us and meandered off.. Up in the snow and eastern WA I understand but lowlands seems these deer have it easy although the population is low..to many cats with multiple on cam.. Cant wait for the big blackie sheds to be posted

You hurt blacktail not at all in my opinion. Blacktail have no problem finding food and I think it’s laughable that having to run a hundred yards somehow makes them drop dead. If they bother running at all.

Son found last week
-
Found this set this past weekend. About 50 yards apart or so.

Sucks that WA made picking up sheds illegal. They slid that RCW right into another bill. Sneaky WDFW

Can you post a link please

Managed to find the matching side a 1/4 mile away. Just a couple inches of tines poking up on this one too. Got lucky to find them, would have been my best blacktail set if they were fresh

I’ve heard nothing on this so I am assuming this is Fake News? Maybe an effort to keep people out of your shed spot?

Incorrect , it is illegal to pick up an anter attached to a skull or skull base

so that people do not potentially shoot and animal and come
Back later for the antlers and def enforced know of many situations

Stumbled across an old one today, not chewed on though. This is western wa, low elevation wouldn't be snow here most years.

I've seen two different herds of elk already returning from wintering grounds in the last week, only spikes with cows unless they dropped already. Spring must be coming early. One of my horses is shedding out already too! I hope that means something!
-
2 weeks ago found the 1st side 20' away(no pics). Went back to same area(crossed my tracks multiple times) and went up and down instead of side hill...Well what do ya know!! Every year this area pays off with multiple sheds!

Nice. Do you have a picture of the sat together? Looks like a decent one
-
Found a little guy the other day.
-
First day out was a success. Sure feels good to be back out
-
Went out today. Saw a bachelor group of 25 bulls. All still packing.
-
1st Brown of the year
-
Bulls are still packing by me and some bucks as well. There are more slick bucks than not but a couple are still hanging on.
-
Some oldies but goodies this weekend.
-
Stepped on a blacktail set from last year :)

Pup found a little blacktail shed today
-
That's a great picture of your dog cougforester! Great start to the year
-
First shed I have ever found while intentionally looking for them. Gnarly ol blacktail forky. The pup's first real shed hunt as well, so of course I let her think she found it.
Took her a while as its the first shed she has been around that hasnt been handled by me first. Also the first time she has been out in any kind of woods or anything that doesnt have clear trails. Out in openings and on trails she will wander and search, but in the thick stuff it was hard to get her out from under my feet. Just need to get her out more and more comfortable with it I guess.
Bummed I forgot to take an "as it lays" picture first. Was next to a real obvious bed that has clearly been used for many years and was covered by dirt and such. Just the mouse chewed parts sticking up.
-
After a couple of years not finding much in the methow valley , nice finding 3 for me and one for my brother in law last weekend. Tried glassing for sheds for the first time and found two of the three . Definitely cover more ground with bino’s .
-
Hard to spot for the squirrels too I guess, its a year old but not chewed. Shady too so its not bleached..
-
.
-
A bunch of small boiz from last weekend, plus a gigantic super old chalky one. Super heavy and super tall. Would've been a sweet fresh find.
-
Found this side by side set of hard whites Saturday. 15 inch g2's!

Found a fresh set Saturday, wet side

Nice job training that damn bear!! :yike:

Brother and I had a good day a couple weekends ago. Even found a velvet shed.
-
I’ve found a lot of sheds and never a velvet shed, very cool!

Originally what I thought too, but it had blood on the bottom of the base and doesn’t look broken at all. Happened to be right where these deer have been hopping the fence.
-
First one of the year
-
Number 2 and 3 if you count them lol. Believe they are from the same buck.
-
Full draw those last ones almost look like they came off the youngster that spent a good portion of the winter in my yard under the rabbit hutches

I wouldn’t bother picking them up if I lived over by you! Get what you get on the wetside. Heading out for a few hours this morning hopefully find a bigger one.

Another dinker

Sorry for the late response, but yes, this years. Still have blood on the bases, pretty stoked.

In the future, just take a screen shot of your photo, and post the screen shot. It works virtually every time.

That’s a nice Blacktail for sure, I’d make him my target this year!! Nice find
-
I always have problems posting pictures here too.
But finally found and elk shed this year, doggo was all tuckered out...

My future son in law and I put 6 miles in today, he found his first fresh antler! I found an old deer myself. Good day!
-
Mine
-
First brown elk of the year. Very grateful to have found these before someone else. A lot of people enjoying our beautiful state!
-
Still looking for some browns to get the pup on her first fresh sheds for the smell of them vs the old ones that for sure have some of my smell on them as well. But so far I have 3 forky blacktail this year for 4 half day trips. I think its cool how these 2 fork horn sheds both probably dropped last year have the same crook on the front point or "mainbeam" Then after looking at a lot of my trail cam pics and the buck I shot there this year I noticed A LOT of the bucks in the area all have that upturned mainbeam. Also, 90% of the bucks in the area have that fat bladed type G2. My 2020 buck, the bigger forky, and a ton of my trail cam pics. But I still have yet to see a single buck with even a slight split of the G2. Most are big old mature fork horns or 3x2. My 2020 buck was the first legit 3x3 I have seen in the area.
-
Finally matched up my only elk shed this year, my first 7 too!
-
Thats a nice set!
-
Had a pretty good day, nothing big but two fresh rags and one, one year old spike.
-
Our shed hunting is almost completely incidental. Two today for us while checking our game cams, a small 3 point that was old and chewed up and this older whitetail shed.
-
Couple more, son in law found two, I found a piece so I wasn’t skunked!!

10.1 miles and two more browns. One very fresh. Anyone know how long the blood stain usually lasts?

Depends on weather.......if sunny they kind of bake on sometimes........if rainy they dont last long.

That would’ve been a nice one to find a couple years ago. If the cougars haven’t got him yet he’s probably a giant now

Man looks like you had a good day. Hopefully you guys are out trying to fill a spring bear tag. I always enjoy watching your videos. I drew this year and I’m headed over for my second trip on Monday. I finally got my first bear picture of the year on Thursday here in Central Washington so I’m getting pretty excited to get back over and hopefully shoot a bear and possibly pick up a few sheds in the process too

No spring tag this year. It was rather cold last night and this morning. We actually got a light coat of snow last night in the mountains. All the south facing slopes this morning were covered in snow.
Good luck on your tag. Season's just about to pick up.

Found my first ever moose sheds. I don’t have any experience with knowing how big a moose is for the area but a local thought this was a good size bull... the other shed was just a old small moose shed.

Two different moose sheds inches apart?! That is crazy. I would hit that same general area every year. Congrats on the find.

Good question. I’m thinking it is since it was perfectly on a south slope in the open getting as much sun as possible and the weeds under it didnt look like it was sitting there for 2 years. They shed in January right? So 6 months sitting in the sun? Idk for sure but I love it lol

Lol, good one!! I was just going to say, I found a spike deer shed at 6,000 ft once.

When do moose drop there paddles exactly? I know it is around the same time as deer and maybe earlier than that. Found this one ,general deer season.
A few weeks ago.
Pretty lucky ,haven't found much in a few years.
It was white and old much like me :chuckle: :chuckle:
I left it in my dad's pickup ,so it's gone as fast as I found it. :chuckle: :chuckle:

This is why we will end up with a shed season. Moose are absolutely dropping now. Moose and other animals don’t need to be ran all over off there feed all winter. Not calling you out personally but this is an issue.

Well you know.....
If it's not him,it will be someone eles finding them.
It's like the moose I seen today ,I was just out coyote hunting, doing a little pre scouting for next deer season,
I watch them a little and let them go on there way.
But I do feel ya ,no reason to chase them down or anything.

Here is a picture of the sheds the wife found yesterday. The story goes , on October 10th, before the modern season opened , the buck the wife had targeted to fill her tag, because of the unusual rack, shed one side. the next day he sheds the other side. Have not found his sheds. So her buck is now a bald deer. She had to settle for her second choice. a (4 x 3 ). The sheds she found were from two bucks that I had taken a picture of on the morning of Oct 19th. That afternoon they were both bald. There went my shot of filling my Muzzleloader tag a month later. The wife says they shed to avoid getting shot. All we have left with antlers now are spikes and small 2's.
