Title: Ammo prices
Post by: Sr15 on January 19, 2021, 07:12:14 AM
If anyone wants some sticker shock go on to gunbroker ammuntion site and see what people are paying for ammo, it crazy and the term panic buying is and understatement! Plain 556 either x193 or m855  and 9mm for .80 to $1 per round. 22lr is  25 cents per round
6.5 and 300prc is $7 per round. A person could buy ammo on this site that the guy was getting flamed for and turn around and sell it for a profit on gunbroker. Its a crazy world we are entering in to.  :(

I'll save you guys some time, I'll sell 7.62 for $1 a round and you don't have to pay for shipping. :chuckle:

Fear is a powerful motivator whether it's TP or lead.

I fully support free market and if someone will buy at those outrageous prices - well that is between the seller and buyer.

However I have been appalled to see things on this site being listed at prices 4X plus normal rates.  I like to think of this site as a local community of sorts and when someone is seemingly looking to take advantage of something at the expense of the community, I am disappointed.  I know I am making a list of folks I will never support or associate with!

Again - free market, as it should be - but that goes both ways and I won't support opportunists.

Primers are going for $200-$250 per 1000 on rhere.

yeah - my 4x comment was vastly understated!

8-10X is more like it when it comes to Primers.

That's exactly what people are doing at Sportsman Warehouse. As soon as the store opens and people find out they got ammo in people are going there buying as much as they can afford and then go out and sale it. They won't let you hold or rain check ammo its a first come first serve. At least that's at the Everett store.

Most of the SW's have limits on what a customer can buy for ammo.

Same with Walmart and probably the other places as well.

Like the TP crisis, this one is self-induced.  I do feel bad for the people that like the high volume shooting sports.

So you're telling me that the 2000 rounds of 22lr I picked up last week at bi mart for $.06-.08 a round can be quadrupled? Hell I though the gouging on the site from a certain member was bad!

I know if I run into certain ammo and buy it and trade it at what bi mart prices are (never change), I expect a fair trade at bi mart prices in return, but a lot of people aren't honest on this site and that's why I don't list anything these days.

I appreciate that members want to watch out for each other, that's not a bad thing, but I have a little different view, I like the free market system, if someone asks too much don't buy it? On the other hand if there is only one place to get something maybe even paying more than you would like is better than not getting what you need? I figure people should be able to decide for themselves what they want to charge or pay without someone else telling them what they can charge or pay.  :twocents:

As some one whom scrambled for some rounds 5 ish years ago and paid an exorbitant ammount for some much needed ammo i can day Im not so sorry for folks.

After Trump was elected  i saw 223 brass case dip as low as 28c a round if purchased by the thousand.  I personally shared when i found buckshot for 250 rounds for $90 TYD... When you can buy new at or less than reloading price  how can you not stock up?

I learned my lesson Im just saddened to know many of you have been through more than 1 of these shortages and didnt learn anything.

Difference between Repubics and Damorats. Repubics if you don't like guns don't own one, If you don't like the prices don't spend your money. DEMS if you don't like guns ban them for everybody, if you don't like the prices bytch and complain about price gouging or condem those that have what you want but didn't get when the prices were lower.
Those in or prior military will understand PPPP  on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
After all you had 4 years to read the writing on the walls but failed to read it.
Yes I will admit prices for brass are ridiculous but of the 12K pieces of 556 brass I acquired less than 50 did I actually purchase the rest the only thing it cost me was gas to and from the range and time and effort to pick them up and prep them.

Ironically, what will end the current situation is when people stop paying high prices, it's dependent on the buyers as there will always be sellers at 4x prices.  There is no shortage, it's 100% panic driven.

Excellent  points.

Here at least it's easy....don't buy it. Folks can, and do, ask the moon on pricing. As discussed,  it's not bread or water. Save the mods time, simply don't make comments we are going to remove,  and don't buy.

Agreed on sponsor ship and we have an ongoing discussion regarding that.

Paying inflated prices is only adding fuel to the fire. Prices will come down again.

Buy low, sell high.

i was mainly joking as I understand and support free market but I definitely don't like to see it. Im never afraid to hit that report to mod button when I see trolling but admittedly I tend to look the other way when it happens to the folks wanting $100 for a brick of primers. Sorry mods  :chuckle:

Facts are demand is very high right now for ammo related items. Some company I believe are doing so on purpose, they can control the market ,being only a few companys make components.Been seeing prices rising even at business and some places like bi-mart and others that never seem to have it in stock haven't raised prices yet.

What we are seeing is old stock inflation ,scabs waiting buying up new stock ,and what we really need is more product for demand to go down.Primers,Powder are the problem where is it going.Cause it's not on the shelf in the form of a cartridge.
 :tinfoil:

Are government contracts for ammo taking away from us little guys ,I've seen a few powder in stock a few week ago all military powders and no slow burning powder 😒

100% Agreed. I had a guy wanted $95 for 300 large rifle primers. Absolutely insane. I told him that he was part of the problem. That being said, it is his right to capitalize on them. I choose not to. I sold a guy 250 rounds of 9mm ammo for .30/rd because he wanted it and I had it, but no way was I going to gouge him 2-3x that. Being good to people goes around, so does the opposite.

But who really is ďstupiderĒ the gouger or the one willing to be gouged?

I have paid high prices for ammo in the past. I justified it by wanting to get in some serious range time. I honestly did not think prices would normalize again after 2016.

Now I feel the same, I do not think the ammo market would have recovered for at least two more years, even if Trump had won.
Now with Biden at the helm, I do not see any for of recovery until 2014 at the earliest.
I believe we are in for a rough few years.
If Biden does half of what he has said he would, the firearms industry will be in chaos again worse the the Obama years.

So to replenish any stash that gets shot, is going to be at a ridicules premium.

its hitting pretty steady, it just gets gobbled up in seconds. I check a dozen sites multiple times a day and have had no issues finding what I need. Just gotta be fast when it does hit.  There is a line every day at the local spots that sell ammo and reloading stuff. Anything on the shelves gets gobbled up quick

I have friends who have scored on primers at various places like 3forks and slortsmans. Buddy down in boise showed up at his local sportsmans on Monday to a FULLY stocked primer shelf. Said it was a feeding frenzy and they were all gone in minutes.  I just can't ever find em online or im not fast enough and yakima is worthless for finding any reloading supplies.

Price gougers can get bent. It's one thing to share your stash and to round up or trade up. People are clearly buying what they can and turning right around to make money off it.

I doubt that people who defend that practice would like it if the stores or manufacturers were all of a sudden selling primers for $250/brick.

At one time it was called capitalism. Not sure what the "woke" term for it is.

Capitalism is fueling the scarcity mindset? Clowning.

The entities best positioned to gouge AREN'T doing it and I think that says a lot more about American values than some warped view of Capitalist Absolutism does.

$1500 seems fair :chuckle:

Is that an offer? :chuckle: I am afraid to post a price. I will be called names no matter how much I ask.

No I have plenty. Post what you think is a good price and screw what anyone else has to say about it. If they don't want to buy it they can wait for the next ad and buy from them if the price is lower.

Sure love the price gouging on shotgun ammo on this forum and other forums!

Hell I've been getting rid of some shotgun ammo at store price to people who need it!

I refuse to gouge any member on anything. So far I've helped members with hulls, wads and powder, another wads and specific loading data, another who needed 100 CCI 200 primers and lastly a dad who needed .410 shells for his son. I ask for little in return, maybe just a positive trade count reply. One did send me the cost of postage. I'm happy to help out those who are starting loading or in need.  :twocents:

Class act?!?!

Have you met him?

He's a one man walking biker bar fight.
How mean is he?
I will tell you.

He once drove his truck and utility trailer from Tacoma to Everett To my place on Federal Way to pick up some furniture for a single mom we were helping out.

That is actually how I met the man.

How many people do you know that would do that for a stranger?

I now return you to your normally scheduled ammo price gouging.

Nothing on huntwa drives me more crazy than the new trend of folks selling ammo and reloading components at price gouged prices. Itís not what huntwa is for or about if you ask me. Go to armslist or whatever other sites and gouge away. This is a community. Not a market place.

I say why not do something about it, but sitting here itís tough to think of a good way to combat it and not have the place turn into something itís not. With the amount of frustration going around on this subject, maybe others have good ideas? Or just let it run itís course. Good people will continue to help eachother out and eventually the dbags will leave until the next oppurtunity to gouge people comes along.

I thought about making a thread saying something to the effect of ďtake your price gouging prices elsewhereĒ but we talked it out and the truth of the matter is thereís no way to enforce anything in a situation like this. Maybe we have a rule like 20 posts before you have access to the classifieds or something like that but for now, I hope people are just decent about things and will leave it at that. Some people wonít. Hopefully those folks get the idea on their own.

I'm not a gouger, and I also won't pay gouger prices, so if somebody wants four times the price I'll just scroll by, its pretty simple. Stop complaining and just wait for a fair price.

One of the shooting competition boards I belong to has a 50 post rule... keeps guys from doing it all in one day,
I don't care about the gouging as much as the guys who come here specifically to do it and have zero intention of contributing to the board.

Itís only gouging if someone pays that price and they feel gouged.

Just scroll by if itís too much to pay or do like many have done here offer yours up for a better price or trades.

I have brand new custom rifle. I have to shoot 100 rounds through it to get it to settle in. Bought 60 rounds from midway they had a three box limit. $63 a box. Next week ordered 3 more, $68 a box. Checked the next week and it was $74 a box and today it is $85.

Supply and demand

I think it's only gouging if it's for something you have to buy - you pretty much have no choice other than pay the high price.  So, if gas stations all doubled their price when people had to evacuate a fire or other emergency that would be gouging.

Otherwise, it's a choice whether you buy it or not and up to the individual.

Or when  a person purchasing pull down bullets at $ 94.00 per 1K one month and next month they cost $135.00 per 1 K. To me that is a little above supply and demand

From what I heard from a distributor... there has been a "across the board" price increase at the 1st of the year that affected ammo.... that's part of it  (small part anyway).
