I would like to see your most prized trophy’s or most memorable hunts. Share a brief story of the hunt or why it’s special to you.
I have several to share.
My most memorable hunt is an unlimiteds ram. This is special in many ways. The amount of time and effort I put in was tremendous. I hiked and horse backed hundreds of miles to make this happen. I dreamed of harvesting a Rocky Mountain ram since I was a teenager. Since I have not had any luck on drawing tag I put In efforts in an area anyone can get a tag. With hard work and some luck I found some success

Most memorable, that’s tough, my dads first bull this year really meant a lot. I’d have given up all my elk for him to get his first, prob his last. First pic is him. My most special animal, would be my OIL bull moose, the time I spent scouting was crazy! Every other weekend I spent over in the Selkirk mountains, met some really great people, ended up with a good bull on day 10. BUT, my most amazing hunt was in 2018, Wyoming elk. The best of the west crew took me 14 miles in on horse back, never hunted on or ridden horses. The country was heaven, saw wolves, grizzly, nice buck mule deer, moose and hundreds of elk. Didn’t take the bull i was hoping for, but the expirence was OIL for me, I’m far from rich and guys pay 8,000 for a hunt like that, cost me zero!! Again, met some really great people on that hunt.

Nothing really to offer as far as big game....but a really cool thread

First time ever applying, slept with the goat that night soaking wet. Darn near died of hypothermia.

Out of all this is MY most prized trophy. The last hunt my best friend and I shared together before he was killed in a jeep accident in 2014. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210127/6e898497fe1741207ddcef3579bb41fb.jpg)

It was awhile back now 6 years?. We were hunting our favorite area and had seen a few small bucks.
We had our usual large camp and hunters had come and gone with no luck.
There was just three of us left in camp. All us over 65. There was a fellow camped just above us who we had got to know. The season was 11 days I think. About 8 days in the three of us were with in a 1/4 mile of each other. One of my buddies ran into our neighbor and the stopped to visit for a minute on the hill. The neighbor stepped behind a tree to take a leak and about that time a legal buck showed himself.
My buddy shot it and called for help. Well I was up the mountain and couldn’t hear very good but our other buddy heard the call and hiked over to help our shooter.
During the next hour there scratching radio talk and I picked up that they were dragging a buck out but the shooter was having chest pains.
To compound things I could see on my Rhino that they were dragging out the long way. So I hurried to help. Well they got the deer to the truck before I got there and we took it to camp to dress out.
The shooters pains let up and was feeling better.
The next day the shooter left for home with his deer and than there was two of us. My other buddy hunted one more day and than left to go to Montana.
Now I am alone. Just the camp and me, a wall tent and cook shack I do have a buddy coming over to help break camp at the end.
I love time in the wall tent and don’t mind camping alone. While we were hunting the day before another friend from the west side had stopped by and put stak and chocolate pie in our cooler for my up coming birthday.
Well my first day alone was my birthday. I got up,cooked breakfast and set out hunt. Parked the truck and started out on my favorite route around the mountain.
I set down about 10 am and watched a bottom , tha moved on.
As I was walking a deer trail I come upon three shooter bucks, 17 inches or bigger. Two jumped down hill, but one came up on the trail I was on, walking away from me at about 60 yards.
Just before going over a rise in the trail he stopped. I will never forget that pose. Quartered slightly looking at me over his back. I leaned against a tree and shot.
When I recovered he was gone. I went to where he was standing , no deer, no blood, nothing.
I decided to move up and over the rise, and sure enough he laid dead.
I did a quick field dress , checked my rhino which confirmed there was a cat trail about 100 yards down. I drug the deer down to it and along it to the south towards a gravel pit.
Just before the gravel pit I see a bear moving towards me down hill. I dump my gunrunner pack and pull out the rifle, but I was t fast enough.
I got the deer to bank above the gravel pit. I knew that this year they had forgot to lock the gate, so I decided I was going to make a quick dash in with truck to get the deer.
I left the deer hiked out to the main road. My truck was a mile around the mountain. But two guys picked me up and gave me a ride.
I got back to the gate and got through to the deer, rolled him off the bank on to the tailgate and back to camp I went.
Used a come along to get him hung and dressed him out. Real proud of myself for killing a deer on my birthday I set down alone to steak, chocolate pie, and Diet Pepsi. With a roaring campfire.
I relived the hunt. And settled in that I had three days left to relax and talk to my buck.
Than the phone rang. It was my wife, she had come home from work and found our back door kicked in and the house ransacked. I told I would start home in the morining.
Got up at 3 am broke down camp and left for home.
Photo my deer on pack frame my wife did.
And a photo of my last two buds in camp and the deer they got.
Oops sorry missed the brief part. :sry: :bash:

A whitetail I took in 2004.. I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours scouting and hunting this particular buck and for it all to work out and able to take him was the icing on the cake.

If I could change one thing, I’d want a good photo with all the folks who helped me out. The cliffy nature of the location prevented a pic of Rainier10 and I from happening but I can’t thank him enough for his help.

This is a tough one. How about one NA animal and one international.
My Washington state record muzzleloader Shiras and my 10 year old Himalayan blue sheep from Pakistan. Both epic hunts.

Thanks, we just finsished the house. That is barnwood off of our barn that was built in 1917. The main barn structure is great but the back lean-to portion will have to be rebuilt so we salvaged all the wood from there for some interior portions of our house. That wall is 24.5ft tall and it goes to the top.

Its so hard for me to pick one since they are all special in their own way but this one is prized because it was my first ever bow kill. Everything that happened was like how you envision it laying in bed thinking about an elk hunt.

My Top 2 prized trophy's
-
These two birds and hunts are by far my most prized trophies,, hunting memories and experiences to date. I have killed some good deer and other critters but these are my trophies.
First was my first turkey but that doesn’t matter, it was my 6yo (at the time) oldest sons first bonafide Hunt with me. We located this bird high above us and he kept right on me as we climbed to him. We made it to 80yds and I thought we we’re toast , as it started to rain I offered up to him that we could head back to the truck or we could keep dogging this vocal Tom. He immediately returned with a “ let’s keep going dad!” We eventually were able to Move back in on him and coax him into 35yds and we celebrated both of our firsts on the hill.
The second included my middle son for his first true hunt after turning 6. Same scenario, the 3 of us trudged up the hill and worked our way towards a group of birds. With this one allowing us an opportunity at 22 yds. The look on his face exploring the birds colors and features, my two sons celebrating together and them packing it out together, calling mom to share our success, I will cherish for my lifetime.
My third son is a few short years from 6 and I’ll add a third trophy to the wall. I’m sure each year will be filled with memories and trophies of all kinds but these firsts will always hold the spot of number one for me.

Good stuff, Bond!

Gonna have to go with my back to back Washington bulls, first one archery bull tag, second one rifle quality
-
Dear God!
-
My brain is a little different than most, I'm a very sentimental person and remember damn near all my kills, the lessons I learned from the hunt, the animal and the people around me. One of the many hunts that stand out was for this guy. There is a lot of pride with this bear.

This is a big buck that I had hunted for two years before harvesting him. The first year he winded another hunter the third day of season, he then went into the timber and never was seen again until the following season. It took three days scouting to find him. I was able to take him opening morning shortly after daylight. The second buck is the next one I could find that year
-
Great deer for sure, WA deer? And 92xj, there is always something special about killing a bear. My bear this last spring just about killed me getting it out, but all worth it. Great looking bear. Love the kids smiles on those turkeys!!
-
A couple of nice trophies there
-
These were in Idaho when you could buy two tags

Great deer!
Some cool trophies in here!

This was one of my first trophy caliber animals. There was 4 or 5 guys hunting the same bull. It took four days to get him in the crosshairs. Two hunters walked with in 200 yards of were he was bedded and he held tight. A hail storm blew in at 1:45 pm and that got him to get up out of a small timber patch and head for denser cover. I was able to make two shoots on him at 300 yards and he went 20 yards and was done

Dang mister you have taken some impressive critters across the board! How old were you when you were able to connect on this bull?... just wondering if there is still hope for me to fill out my trophy room :chuckle:
-
I was 30 when I got that bull. :IBCOOL:
I was really into elk hunting prior to killing that bull. I figured I can’t top that one, so I have started chasing many other species. Mule deer and bighorn sheep are my favorite challenge so far

Yes that’s a tough one to beat! Thanks for sharing

#go4steelhd should post a monster steelhead picture to round out his awesome assortment of wild game trophies.
Geez some people 🤣

Just heard Randy Newberg saw this thread and after seeing go4steelhd's photos he has decided to give up ever finding another Big Hank.

That’s funny.
I can have fun with “the day I found big Hank”
I try to spend as much time as I can in the field over the last 20 years, but I have to say my friends say I am the luckiest person they know when I comes to finding a trophy like:
Shooting the 5th-6th biggest bison ever shot by a hunter in Montana when I drew,
Or shooting one of the biggest if not the biggest ram to come out of the unlimiteds,
Or the bull moose above I payed 5k on a last minute cancellation hunt in 2016. It’s an area that they shoot 35-40 small paddled moose. And I was lucky enough to cross paths with big hank. In my 20’s I harvested a lot of game, but it was small, but they were trophy’s to me, in my 30’s I started mostly rifle hunting and really started to learn habits and habitats of the quarry. That’s when I really started to find quality animals, and some luck to be honest.

Big Hank when I drew in Arizona
My wife came along on the trip and was 7 1/2 months pregnant at the time. 4 days scouting, then 15 minutes of hunting on the opener

Holy crap!!!!! That is a great goat. How hard was it to hunt him upside down? How do you dial for elevation for a shot like that? :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

If it doesn't then you're doing it wrong.

Was this buck ever officially scored? My God what a tank!

So, is the trophy 4'2"? Nice thanks for the share!!!
-
She is 5 foot six and yes the buck officially scored at 216 2/8 gross and 211 5/8 net and only had one scoreable Eyeguard the other five are broken off. The best part is I get to stare at her every night. It was a great hunt and I made several great friends that I met here on the forum

I like her in different outfits too

Just picked up my Ewe from my taxidermist and couldn't be happier with how it turned out! I figured what the hell and get it done because it very well be the only sheep I ever kill in my lifetime. But in the off chance I hit the lottery and get a Ram permit she is already set up for a floor pedestal mount so I can have them both together.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210202/f93dbf9a45f3889c8bb73d097f1c0abc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210202/46eb40f53c1e9b4cbd8ee479cf5e6e40.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210202/969d03d5bfc804f446388c8f1b140cd3.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210202/0498d77a5b44bb9c37665190e3383dd0.jpg)

Two and both from this year.
My son's first greenhead (I shot, but he was in the blind with me), and one of the last hunts for my 12-year-old lab. My oldest son had been begging me to go duck hunting, so I bought him the gear and secured some private land permission to hunt. My old dog has thousands of retrieves for me, but this season is his last. Tough to watch a dog with so much fire be limited physically, he survived testicular cancer this summer (was neutered at 11-years-old) and probably won't make it through this summer. Getting him (my dog) out to grab a few more birds and watch in all with son was an experience I won't ever forget.
Second, my largest blacktail buck-to-date. This was the first buck I saw all season and I was able to arrow him at 7 yards on the ground. I've made peace with the fact it may take me a lifetime (if ever) to top this Washington buck with a bow... but I will damn sure try!
***EDIT***
If I had to choose, the duck with my son and dog would be the #1 all-time for me.
-
Great stuff Sundance!

Good god almighty, that’s a ridiculous blacktail.

Killer buck and sweet little hidey hole to kill him in!
-
This is from when my son was three, We stalked this buck for about 3/4 of a mile. Half of that stalk I had my rifle in one hand and my son in the other carrying him. When I was about half way out to the buck, I had some other guys pull up on the road and watch. Soon I looked back seen them come hurring out towards the buck that I was already halfway to, they must have figured since I was carrying my kid they could pass me from behind and get the buck. Well they spooked the buck, and I ran over the hill and shot it :chuckle:
It was a great day for myself and my son

My biggest turkey so far, just under 23 lbs. I had my dad sitting with me when this guy flew down. He had one broken wing feather that made him sound like a jet when he sailed over us. He had about 15 hens with him, but I was able to call him in close enough to get a shot. I think my dad was more excited than I was. My dad passed a few years later, so it is a great memory and trophy to me.

Not 4 legged but none the less it's my only trophy.

looks good to me.

Had to do some digging to find this.... 25years old, 1st trip to Alaska.... Read a magazine article somewhere about caribou hunting drop camps with Ketchum Air.... started doing some research (pre internet for me) and made it happen. Me and a buddy each killed 2, this was my 1st.

Awesome, that Beaver is on my list!

My wa mountain goat that I just got on the wall :IBCOOL:
-
Scott does it look any better today? :chuckle:

Both of these for similar reasons. Both hunts involved my Dad and I going into new areas and putting in the work to learn and be successful. Dads' elk was taken right before the hunt was over after having passed on some larger bulls earlier in the hunt. For me the memories and experiences of being there together and getting it done are the reward.

nice blacktail :IBCOOL:

I would say it’s my 2018 WA moose. It was a raffle tag so I could still draw but most likely this was a once in a lifetime hunt.

.

Nice moose

Great memories with my daughter and the Addicted Outdoors crew
-
I was fortunate enough to fill my cougar tag this past December on a solo hunt when I called this adult female in. The first pic is a selfie I took when I first found her after tracking her blood trail about 150 yards downhill. The 2nd image was taken by my wife when I got home that evening. I was able to pack...er...drag it out whole. An experience that I'll never forget.
Not sure why the top pic is upside down. I've tried saving multiple versions of it facing all directions but no matter what, when I post it, it is always upside down. :dunno:

Alaska range DIY
This was a drop camp hunt. This hunt is one of my best experience’s hunting. I think it’s the general experience getting up to Alaska, then being dropped of in the middle of no where. Then chasing game that you have only seen on TV before.
Anyways if you can figure out a way to go, go for it
-
Awesome moose. I'm guessing it made B&C

No he is not book. I have only harvested two animals that go all time awards. I have harvested several more that were really close to making all time awards, and either just missed it or deductions took them out.
Once I seen the drop tines I was sold.
We did see a bull that I feel would have went book. He was on the opposite side of the canyon and went off the back side to never be seen again.

My family and a buck I shot this year. Thank you for sharing your pics.

That's a good looking family also, along with the buck. Good for you.

Nice work to both of you

Here is Pathfinder JR's favorite deer. And my favorite picture of him with it... (even though its a bit blurry)

I was archery hunting Idaho with some friends. I called this guy into 11 yards solo. It was epic. My first bull. At exact same time my dad was in Washington he kept calling me but I wouldn’t answer as I was stalking mine. He ended up taking an archery bull about exact same time as me.
My first bull, his last as he passed away suddenly a couple years later.

another favorite that isn't even mine... my dad's bull from this year. With him every step of the way
-
That's a great picture. Was that a WA bull?
-
Sure looks like one of our yards, 154?

My first goat way back in the day. 1984 to be exact in the now closed Pratt River unit. Shot this billy solo on my 3 rd day out. Saw him a 1/2 miles across a rock basin. Ended up sneaking up and shooting him at about 30 yards out of a huge rock garden. Goat took 3 more shots from my 7mm mag, and attempted a suicide leap off a cliff. He ended up falling dead onto a tree on a sheer cliff.
My proudest moment and a realization that a mature billy pound for pound is the toughest animal to kill in North America..
-
Nice goat. Sure looks heavy.
-
One highlight of my life to see my son kill an awesome 7x7 bull and with my dads bow. Proud to see him carry on a family tradition
-
Beautiful animal

How did you end up getting him down? Still solo for the recovery or did you have some friends on standby? Those hard ones create the best and longest lasting memories

It was pitch dark after I found and gutted him. I took a branch and propped the rib cage open and came back the next day with my brother to pack him out. The unit stayed open for a few more years before being closed. The area was the Russian Butte and you can see it when you drive east on I 90 past Mt Si.
Most guys that kill a Mtn goat come back with a pretty good story, and in the end, those are the special times that count👊🏔👊

Here are two of my own favorites.
My first buck, age 13.
My 2010 Montana Mule Deer (this one is my favorite because I killed it during that November blizzard in Montana when it got -20)
-
My favorite typical
-
This was a good looking buck that I got after missing a great buck. That year I seen a group of bucks that had a high 190’s buck, 180ish buck that I missed, a 30-31 inch wide 165ish buck(I killed him the following season) I never seen that giant again, rumors were he was around for two more years. I did scout for this buck during that time but I never located him again
-
Nice bucks
-
This is the wide buck that I referred to above. I shot him in a rock slide the next year, I had to push the stock since I had other hunters moving in from below. The buck cart wheeled for 200-250 yards. He busted basically everything, I found most of the pieces. This was a prized trophy prior to the fall :bash:
-
Called in with fawn distress while bear hunting.

I don't like to post pictures of my kids on the internet
