Jack....these were on 18 power, right at shootng light or 7:30 am with a monopod. Its hard to capture them as they are moving. If they would have been on the tripod, they might have been a bit clearer. These aren't cropped, they are full size brought down to 800x600, so that might overcompress them a it as well.
-
Nice looking buck, is he a 3x4?
-
Yep, there are some more shots of him on Bones bucks. He was a dandy for sure. I bet 5.5 years old. Man if his other side matched his 4 side. I'd put the hammer down on him for any late tag though.
-
.(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v47/boneaddict/frombehind3.jpg)
-
that is a nice buck..i would slap my tag on him anyways...i love the big 3 on bucks like that...
-
Yep thats a dandy buck that would not hesitate to get a rifle or bow shot outta me, especially if that left side matched up with the right.
-
Nice Buck!!!
-
Hey Bone, a friend of mine is over hunting his late season alta tag right now. He has been seeing some bucks but nothing to pull the trigger on. Any chance this buck is in his unit?
-
Great shots of a nice buck!!
-
Sweet!
-
wastickslinger and wastickflinger???
somebody's gotta change their name.
-
Hey I been around a little longer. Not only here but know as slinger on other "crappier" sites. :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I think big 3x4's are cool, had it been my tag he probably would have gone down.

Wow, nice whitetail
-
Here you go Bone, hwy 212 in Montana. There was 3 miles of crap on the road before we caught up to them. :chuckle:
-
I love your pics, but you're a dial ups worst nigtmare. I don't suppose I could talk you into downsizing them to 800x600 or so. I'm afraid impatient folks or people are missing out, because it takes so long, some don't even show, or you don't know they are there.
I did that once, except I ran into the front half, on a cliff/narrow road. the road is about 9 feet wide. I always make Idabooner pucker up from it. I'll get some pics from it. I have them on film somehwere. I have no idea how long I had to sit there as a thousand head filed by.
-
"but you're a dial ups worst nigtmare."
Whats that??? :dunno:
No worries, I can resize them. I take them in RAW format and change to JPG anyway, I will make them 800X533 from now on before posting, if I remember ;)
-

56k in this house. I can't even get half of the pics unless they are sized smaller. And yes I know I need to upgrade, thanks for your concern... :chuckle:
-
Is this better

I have a 56k modem, but with old phone lines in the area I am lucky to get a connection with 38k.. I too have to skip most threads that are pic heavy and it can take me an hour to view/judge the photo contest.
-
Much better! I think I'd have to shoot that guy.
-
LOL, one of my partners shot at him twice, right under the belly both times at about 40 yards. :chuckle: He wasn't in the same from of mind the rest of the day :'(
-
Here is a better shot of him Bone, I grunted to stop him and he turned and looked right at my buddy. I was trying to get a shot of the arrow hitting him but he shot right under him. He took off and I stopped him again only to have another arrow hit the dirt. I then took some picks of him walking away, they all truned out pretty well. Even though I was the one grunting he is looking right at my buddy. Kind of decieving as it was a 400mm lens, he was alot closer than me.
-
Sounds like buddy had a case of buck fever, or needs to spend more time shooting. :) He'd made a nice trophy. Next year, he'll be bigger.

A moderator never sleeps. About 5 tonight maybe if I am lucky. I work until 3 then have to water the birds. Another 36 hour one. Someone has to support the war effort...financially that is.
-
Awesome pics guys, I wish I lived in mule deer country. I can't afford the gas to drive over and scout. I'm stuck looking at blacktails and elk all year.
-
How about one of these?
-
Another from Bones favorite position
-
I don't think he is being casual or dignified with his departure. Looks like the afterburneres are about to kcik in.
-
He didnt go too far Bone, he had ladies with him ;)
You know whats funny, this guy was on my friends property and when we drove past him we came upon a truck and trailer pulled off to the side of the dirt road so I pulled over to talk to them. The trailer and truck had Washington plates and when I went up to the guy he pretended he wasnt watching this buck, which was a 7X5 by the way. They were sitting just over the property line on a 1 mile square block of BLM land and obviously were hoping the buck would cross over so they could drop him. I got my map out, playing dumb, and asked them if they knew were we were and asked him to point out on the map, he wasnt even close to getting it right but I didnt say anything. I then turned my Excursion around and drove the 1/4 mile back to the buck and his does and grabbed the camera and got out. I walked right up to the deer, about 50 yards and started snapping picks, making sure that I pushed them the other direction, away from those two guys. I'm sure they were not too happy but oh well :chuckle: IT was a guy from Washington and his dad, who actually lives in Montana. I wouldn't be surprised if he is on this site. If you are on here and reading this, this is the buck you were looking at all morning, I know you remember my blue Excursion.

I came accross this photo today and I immediately thought of Bone's "From Behind" thread. Thought I would add one I thought was decent with two bucks in the background.
-
GREAT PICTURE Shawn! Whats this...I come here expecting to see tail and there are three buck pics facing me...don't be hijacking my thread huntnphool. :) The last one makes up for it though. I got a couple more to add from yesterday....not nearly as big as these boys.
-
Butt shots :ass:
-
so far i havent seen a shot that i wouldnt take. I have taken a couple ass shots before and have dropped them. its amazing how a ballistic tip to the "A" hole will just fold over a several hundred pound animal. it does terrible things to the insides and you have to hurry up and gut them quickly and rinse out as much as the bad stuff as you can. BUT....And i do say butt :) those all if i had seen them during hunting season and had been the only shot i had. I WOULD TAKE IT.....nice pictures man. nice pictures indeed. .....
havent hunted alot of mule deer but everytime a see a good loocking mule deer i think about going the following year.......
maybe i will go scouting for them this comming year...........
-
Everytime I see this topic resurface I say to myself should I open it or move by very quickly. I guess the topic "From Behind" scares me a little coming from guys! :chuckle:
-
now michelle that is funny ROFL :chuckle: :chuckle:

from behind :chuckle:
-
Oh no, we resurrected this thread again? Ok, I'm game. Here is a "from behind" of the biggest deer I saw this year. This is the closest I saw to a 200" deer. If you want a different view of him I might be temped to post a few others. There is one of this guy from the front on the old 200" deer thread. I believe it is a 200" deer gross or really close. MM Tony is not so sure he quite meets that mark. You decide. What do you think he scores?
-
ah Shawn, could you pm me with his location? ;)
By the way, amazing bohka in the distant grass.
What glass?
-
300mm F2.8 IS. Amazing lens. Cropped about 1/6th the originals size. Gotta love the new digitals. I've offered to take people there, but they must remain blindfolded the whole trip...lol.
Shawn
-
Shawn, from this angle his mains look to be a little short and his tip to tip a bit lacking as well, that being said I think he would be very close. Very nice deep forks and looks to have nice symmetry as well, although his left G2 is much longer than his right, he would be in my cross hairs without question.
-
that's the kind of buck you shirt first then worry about the score. I'm not sure he's 200"(short looking beams) but he should be atleast 190". pretty awesome looking
-
Here's the picture from the front. I think you guys are right. Somewhere 190-200?
-
Thanks for resurrecting...feel free to keep doing so and keep posting pictures of great buck guys.
I'll still get there Pope with you, especially after I get that new lens. ;)
Just have to get it paid for first and quite working all these damn shifts. We should get some good velvet pics for these guys in August.
I think he is a 190 buck. I don't think he breaks 200. Like said by Bluebulls, shoot first ask questions later.
-
dang bone! that is a nice rack, nice deep back forks. going away shots on a camera look good, but terrible through the scope. so i've heard.
-
Digitally zoomed and cropped. The thing wouldnt let me get closer that 600 yards. You get the idea.
-
Going away is a terrible angle to judge an animal, but there are two here that are a no brainer regardless of angle.
-
Very nice....think that would have been a no-brainer, even maybe for 300 and his tag. Nice animal and isn't that camera nice for at least focumenting these fellas. Theres a reason why they don't want you within 600 yards. Any frontals of him? VERY NICE!
-
Sucker never turned back and never quit walking at a fast pace. Here is a piss poor side view. His forks kill him. Pinchers for the most part. There are usually two of them. The other has better forks. Maybe some better shots after tomorrow morning.
-
Back forks look good. He's a dandy thats for sure.
-
with a little luck(ok a lot of luck) I will have some ATL sheds of this guy or his brother. Backs are ok, fronts are a little weak, good mass, I still dont think 300 would have pulled the trigger.
-
a few more from this point of view.

I guess it works for other species too
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v47/boneaddict/elkfb.jpg)
-
boy I tell you what I hate looking at animals from behind.. You never know how big they REALLY are. plus if they are going the other way I did something wrong :bash: :bash:
-
Yeah, I jumped this guy at about 50 yards or less and he ran across this clear cut about 500 yards across and by the time I got my camera out thats where he was. he could have easily stoppped for a second and gave me a look. He did finally but you'll see that pic some place else. He was behind a tree. He obvisouly couldn't see me behind that tree so it must have been to stop to catch his breath. :)
-
Man if he grows into that back fork, hes a contender.
-
-
I love from behind shots, they can really look impressive the they rack has good heigth, great shots guys!
-
Her is one. Not the greatest pic but I don't have a big fancy camera so it's the best I can do.
Brandon

An addict never sleeps. :o
-
We'll take it Brandon. Is that a sticker point coming off or just something in the background that is convienently in the right place. A dandy buck!
Yes it is a sticker. He is safe unless you draw a special permit for the Quilomine. Even then he is on private property of a "friend of a friend" and I can't even get permission to hunt out there. I saw one of his offspring about a week ago, and at about 18 months he was already as wide as his ears and had 2 points. I am almost positive he is only 18 months because he is just over half the size of all the does he was trying to breed. He was impressive either way.

It's still early, according to the calendar. But if you ask the weather, it would say that yes, it's time.
Just got an email from a friend in North Dakota telling me that the Sharptails are already on the leks. I wasn't planning on being able to go over there until late April, but if I get a chance to make a quick trip over I'm gonna try to get there earlier. Still 3 feet of snow there, though. May be tough getting to & from the leks.
Here's another "from behind" image:

Perfect. Thats what I should have been doing today. That first one looks like a nice benchleg.

I saw his tail didn't look like a normal mule deer compared to all the other deer in the area. Only deer I saw with a tail like that.

Pretty common in "our" area

This is the buck I wanted to try to find this winter and get some closer shots.

Nope but I can see how it could be confused as I photogrpahed him in the exact light at the exact spot almost about 5 or 6 days later in the year, last year. :)

I just had to post this image considering the subject, hope everyone finds it as humorous as I do. Good thing I shot off a tripod cause there was no way for me to freehand shoot for this one, as I was laughing so hard; couldn't believe either. I've always wanted to photograph a blacktail buck breeding a doe and what do I get? The "dominance" factor, lol. Geez, whatever happened to the good 'ol antler locking fights? Anyone else ever seen blacktails do this?

That's hilarious, Big Barrel! And, it is most fitting for this thread - it gives "from behind" a whole new meaning.

Nice black tails Tree Killer.
Are they some you rattled in?
Yes, that's the only way I can consistently get decent photos of truly wild bucks.
Here's a different angle on the "From Behind" theme...

Cool pics! I once saw a herd of mule deer, and thought I was seeing all butts--until I glassed the herd, and found that what looked like a deer's behind was a buck that was so old, his face was white. And he had a huge rack. Obviously the Patriarch of the herd...

Do I make a response on (truly wild bucks) comment?
Until I see you go up to one and saddle it and ride it. I'll keep thinking that they are still truly wild bucks. :chuckle:
well, these are wild deer... but not truly wild in the photogenic way! :chuckle:

30 to 40 yards, or what I consider longbow range is my goal for a good photo. The last one was at about 15-20 feet with my little camera. I was on one side of a creek bank and the deer was on the other.

Bone that buck is my dream mule deer bucks! Him and regrets! Do you have more pics of this guy you could post on his own little thread? I wanna drool over them! Lol
-
Thanks LD. He had his own thread on here, but I removed it. There was a trash talking troll and his locale came out and controversy. I'm here to photograph and to share what I see. I said screw it and nuked it. I have over 500 pics of him. He was probably last years best and he was homegrown here in Washington and probably dead within the week. Anyways nowadays I'm not saying a word of where the buck comes from, even to friends.
