2 dfferent mags, same issue
Hornady critical defense and speer gold dot, same issue.
2 different shooters, both experts and 1 a trainer.
Ideas? It didn't lock 100% of the time.
Total round count less than 100

I know some of the early one's had issues prior to 2018 or 19. It sounds like the magazines are not all the way in, they can lock in place and still be a tad short. I've got one 15 round mag for my 320 that wont stay open the others work fine. :twocents:

Check the spring tension on the slide release. If it's wonky then it might not be letting the mag follower push it completely up on the last round and letting the slide slip through.
Just a thought.

Will it lock with an empty mag inserted if you pull the slide back. ?
That's test one for dirty/ broken parts. Or poor mag seating.
If it locks that way it's possible grip position is a causing factor during live fire. High, thumbs forward style grip will migrate to the slide release as a happy place for your thumbs.

The grip was watched by firearm instructor while firing and thumbs weren't hitting slide lock, he was watching for that specifically.
The slide works as normal, with empty mag it'll lock back, but I can't recall if I was pushing up the slidelock button at the time with a thumb. Habits.

Does it lock on an empty mag without shooting it.

I'll check that

Empty mag function test, it locks back every time.
Dunno, wondering if my mag springs got weak.
I got a buddy that'll have the answer.

Forgot about this.
Ya pretty common for the mag springs to be one of the issues. Try a one round test. Load a round into the chamber and make sure the mag is empty. Shoot and see what happens.

Just did that, it locked back as it should.

I would add a round at a time and see at what point the spring develops its weak memory at.

I'm upgrading my mags with +2 springs, follower and floorplate
Make them 12rd mags with same concealment factor as the factory 10 rd with finger tab. Slightly longer than the factory flush bottom plate, but I prefer having a home for my pinky finger anyways.

Mag springs weak, def the problem.
Took apart the mags and the springs were not much longer then the mags themselves, 1 coil protruding instead of 3
Pulled on them a bit to lengthen them out, now they got more push.
Just did a full mag dump and it locked back, so problem found.
New mag springs are the solution, they're on order.
Stretching them a bit is temporary.

Kinda along the same lines, but is there any truth to magazine springs losing strength by staying loaded for long periods?
I've only owned a few auto pistols. I have a Glock 10mm, and 6 mags. 3 stay loaded. Every other week I swap mags.
Is this unnecessary? Thank you sirs.

Yes, I've replaced all my G20 springs with +10% mag springs and load them fully minus 1 round.
I was having failures on the G20

I have a sig365 ms and I haven't had any issue with the slide so far.
Is there a reason you're getting the conversion to 12 rd mag instead of buying the 12 rd mag and still have that 10 rd to use? The price is almost the same. https://osagecountyguns.com/sig-sauer-mag-365-9-12.html

Its the same thing, and my 10 rd springs are shot so I won't run em anyways....
But mostly it's because you didn't post that quick enough lol
