Title: Bonaparte Lake, WA
Post by: elkinrutdrivemenuts on June 10, 2021, 08:57:10 AM
I finally got up to my family's cabin over Memorial Day to do some fishing.  First time with the boat and I was targeting the Mackinaw's I read were in there.  Or a Tiger if one decided to bite.  Only thing I was catching was Kokanee's. They seemed hungry as they were hitting stuff I normally use for Mackinaw here in Idaho.  I was trolling with leaded line, dodgers and various attachments, but no luck on the Mack's.  I know a few people on here have fished up there, anyone have any luck on the Mackinaw's, or are they far and few between up there.  The kids did catch one Tiger trout from the shore, they are beautiful fish.  Next time I will not leave my fly gear at home, there were fish rising everywhere!

Following, we hope to get up there a couple times in the next month! Have never fished it but looking forward to trying it out. The boy will be excited to toss a few flies, but the focus for us will be tiger trout. Looking forward to any tips offered up!

Beautiful picture too!

Bring some white corn and anise if you want to get some Kokanees.  I was using a pink Mack's Cha Cha squidder tipped with corn,  18in behind a dodger, but anything similar will work.  Best of luck!

Thank you! We hope to fish for several hours so we will be trying a few different things and for different types of fish. Traveling lite this time so just to electric motor, hope it is fast enough to catch a few Kokanee. But it is going to be fun either way!

I was doing 1.4 to 1.7 with my 40 lb electric trolling motor on a 14ft boat.  That seemed to be the speed they liked.

Heck yeah, I drew a 204 tag. And I just started doing research on this lake, hoping I can find some fishing from the bank somewhere. Catching a tiger would be insane but fishing in general is always fun. Thanks for posting this.

Was a great day of fishing! The wind made driving the boat sporting with just the electric motor so next time we will bring the gas motor and an anchor with plenty of rope. We caught lots of kokanee (10" average) a few nice rainbows (12"ave) and one tiger at 17". The catching was best from 6 to 8 pm.

Awesome!  What were the Tiger's biting on?

I was trolling a bright pink kokanee hoochies. It was later probably 7pm or so on the north end of the lake.

Wife and I were there 18,19, 20.
Rented a row boat and rolled across from the dock. Wind came up so we got up wind of a log  sticking out. Caught 10 8-10 inch trout in couple hours.
Wind stared really blowing couldn’t get back across for two more hours before it died a little and we made a run for it.

Stayed at the Resort in our new to us Escape Trailer.
Sunday the wind was really blowing we left at 11am.

Thanks Birdguy.
We just back from a overnight trip over. Smoke up there from all the forest fires wasn't too bad. Thanks for all the good feedback.
