Title: Whidbey Island Deer Hunting?
Post by: Parasite on August 02, 2021, 01:04:11 AM
Anyone know how hard it is to get access to hunt antlerless blacktail deer on Whidbey Island? I'm looking for some leads.

Both sides of my family grew up on Whidbey and used to have permission to hunt all over the island. Over the years more and more has turned to private, no hunting no trespassing. I would use OnX for landowner info and find some bigger chunks around Coupeville and knock on some doors. You might get 99% no for an answer but that one you do get should easily fill an antlerless tag. Good luck

I live on Whidbey, and it's getting harder and harder to find private land to hunt.  A lot of land has been bought up by developers and there is a crud-ton of new houses going up right now.  3 of the areas I used to hunt 25 years ago are all housing developments now.

I luckily married in to a family that has some land in a good spot that my sons and I hunt.

Also, there are far more bunny huggers and rock lickers on the island than people that like hunting or hunters.  A lot of people illegally feed deer to attempt keep them on their property during hunting seasons to keep them away from those pesky hunters.  >:(

Some of the biggest bucks I've seen on this island have been road kill on the south end.  I have a buddy that drives SR525 all year long for his commute, and he puts a lot of venison in his freezer from salvage tags.
