I dunno if this thing is a machete or a sword, but its my new truck axe!
I got a KB 650, but it sucks on small stuff, this gonna fill the gap. For hanging cams and tree stands. I've used traditional machetes before but they suck for up here, twang and flex, this gonna chop
18 inch blade, got some heft
Kershaw camp 18, anyone use one? I just took it out the box

I was out setting up a winter trail cam the other day.
And took this thing, for some harbor freight Chinese junk.
Man I was impressed. The saw on the back can cut branches .
Six dollars at harbor freight right now.
You had to pull down on the branch, while you cut or it gets pinched up. But it cut them ,I was shocked.

Nice
Haven't tried mine, but I can tell a feller ain't gonna wanna miss or cut through, and on to his leg
-
That harbor freight thing has been in my shop for like three years. It will go dull quick a leave me screwed at some point. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

That’s awesome. I’ve been binging the last kingdom. Makes me want a sword. Maybe I’ll get one of those 😂

Had a Kershaw Camp 18 for a couple years, and used the heck out of it. Was my favorite machete of all time. Would slice right through a 2 1/2" branch with one swipe, and would ring like a bell when it did. It actually made cutting brush fun again!
Then, one dreary day, I cut through a tag alder about an inch or so thick, and after it wen through, it nicked about 1/4" of the blade tip on the bumper of an old trailer frame...something made a loud "tink". My favorite machete broke almost exactly in half! I sent pics to Kershaw, and told them the story. They said they'd replace it. It looks to me like a heat treat issue, as the grain where it broke is big, and sandy looking.
My wife bought me a 16" CRKT "Chanceinhell", and although the blade is a little short, and the handle is too short for my hands, I REALLY love the angle of the grip in relation to the blade.

Got one of these babies and it is sharp as a razor! Don't know how durable it is yet but it was cheap enough! Camillus Carnivore, The saw back is amazingly sharp but looks like it's shaped wrong on the teeth. I will let you know how it works out. I think it's 18" overall though so a bit shorter than yours would be. That things a sword!

They modified the blade, no longer has a fuller and seems to have resolved that issue

Can't wait to hear your review after use. For many years I bought machete after machete, just to be disappointed. Last year I broke down and bought a Woodsman's Pals and couldn't be any happier. It chops and cuts better than any tool I have ever used. It is a trail building machine. It is a little pricy....but so far well worth the money.

Ya, I couldn't bring myself to buy that, but I suspect this one I got isn't going to keep up to that either.

I like it. I keep a standard issue machete in the truck, but the just don't have the weight or backbone to perform well for anything but the lightest duty.
-
In the lush jungle a thin machete would be better, less fatigue, but up here they're too thin.
-
Yeah there's alot more soft tissue plants in the jungle than we have around here. What can you tell me you didn't like about the Camillus one I bought?
-
It bounced off stuff I wanted to chop, literally bounced. The sawback was so wide, the kerf was crazy and was more work than it was worth.
Also, I am NOT a bushcrafter. I just enjoy being out, but I want to get things done and not screw around, I just do trail camera's and clear stuff for hunting.
I never go out and make survival structures and camp or do stuff like that.
-
My favorite machete I’ve found.

I use this. Cuts way better than you would think. Hunting buddy has a copy branded Gerber.

I have used these alot . Substantially heavier duty and better steel than a cheap hardware store machete .https://ontarioknife.com/collections/machetes-2/products/okc-18-field-orange-d-handle?variant=31397439963222
-
That's the gold standard of machetes
-
Hatchets are more useful for northern latitudes.

I have one of those. Didn't know what to think at first, but I have used the heck out of it and have been impressed. Clears brush decently. Splits kindling. When sharp it can really hack through limbs. I can limb tree branches up to maybe 1 1/2 inches way faster than with a chain saw or axe.

Not yet, snow too deep to go anywhere lol
