Ill put my pics of this year on this thread. Ill probably have the most cams Ive ever had out this year in possibly 3 states if I draw MT
-
Was able to retrieve a camera that was buried all winter. I still have 1 in Idaho that’s probably under snow still and won’t get to it until July when road clears.
I bought 4 of these Wildview 12mp 2 years ago and none have had a single issue. 2 of them probably have 100K to 200k pics. This camera hung from June to early April and was still taking pics. $35 and cannot complain.
What is odd with this cam pull was not a single bear! might be a first for me running cams in bear country. there is a ton of bears on this mountain and I had several prior to july 19th

The only pic I got of this buck. I’ve had a camera here for 2 summers. First time I left it all winter. It’s peaked my interest . I’m going to invest some time into finding his home this summer and see what he turns into this year he looks to have promise as a buck I’d target this fall. Be a lot of work for this one as it’s uphill 3-5 miles to look for him.
2nd picture I hunted that buck 2 years ago and was never seen again after sept 9th. He looks very similar to the buck on cam this past November.Nobody was hunting him in September as there is only 1 way in. Ran cams over 5 miles that fall and found every buck I had on camera but him. I think a cat got him as I had one on cam several times and ran into it.
-
Damn, he’s a smoker! Nice collection so far. Looking forward to seeing YOUR pics throughout the year.
-
SWEET, lets keep em coming

Nice pics for $35 camera's, looking forward to seeing more of huntnnw pics. Hopefully everyone can respect your thread.

Heck Ya!!!!
That buck is a toad giant man.
Like his eye guards best.
Keep the pics coming.

Thanks, great to watch the changes through the seasons!!!

You are the master on trail cameras, love it. What do you use for attractant?

trace salt from north 40 or tractor supply

Is that the loose stuff or the 50# block?? If loose, do you bury it or just dump on the ground?

Loose is the best option in my opinion. With blocks the elk, moose and bears will roll the block away and it will no longer be in front of your camera. With the loose salt the animals step on it and pound it into the ground making a great mineral lick for years to come. I have some that started as flat ground and are now 3-4' deep.

I love that pic of the two bulls. They look like they're judging you!

All I use is loose and dump on ground . More rain it will leach more of it into the ground and keep them returning longer on less salt.
-
Yes on the loose form, faster for them to get what they need and easy to add other things if needed
-
Great photos, thanks for sharing!

Wow. All sorts of wildlife in your haunts. Thanks for sharing!

Idaho spring bear time. Not allot of action yet, lot more snow snd probably 20 deg cooler than last year at this time.

:chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: Love the crow selfie!!

Beautiful color on that little one.

If ravens and bears cooperate we all may be in trouble

I'm getting baits in the next couple of weekends.

Still a lot of snow in the mountains, we ran into 2’ yesterday at 4,000 on east face. Weather is not helping with bears moving around , but it is picking up

Thanks huntnnw, try to keep tabs on that WT, bunch of potential!!!

I want to watch him grow toooo!
Please share when possible,pretty please.
I got 6 cams out now, three more to go and I'm done with it for the year.
May have went over board with no spring bear season.
Then when I check them,if there is no buck on any of my cams ,it's getting moved again.
Cause I got plenty of potential spots, not enough cams.
-
I’ll post pics of him as I see him
Bear baits are getting better. Going to start sitting tomorrow and weekend.

It’s pizza crust :chuckle:

:chuckle: good stuff!!! Good helper for determining size of the bear to put something in a tree. Some guys use beavers you use pizza crusts :chuckle:
-
That’s awesome, sure wish I lived closer to freedom! When are you going to hunt them? Who gets to shoot first, the boss or you??!!

We’ve sat 3 evenings so far, picture of that black one in daylight came in minutes after we left to check another bait. Then we came back at sat there. Checked cam last night and that bear was there . :chuckle:
Won’t sit for quite awhile now. Headed springer fishing Thursday and won’t hunt til June 2. June is probably the best month for spring season.

Made it to a new cam I placed last month. Nothing of any real size to get me exited over for whitetails. One looks to be a little older with good bases and brows , but top doesn’t have a great start. Lotta 1-2 yr olds.
-
.
-
Big calf for the first of June, thanks!
-
guessing that calf is near a month old. Very early

That one doesn't look bad, better than the cam I checked the other day. He'll grow up to be a shooter.
-
Shooter to many , but highly unlikely for me. Bucks that are 150” plus have considerable amount of antler right now
-
Example .. this buck finished close to 170” that’s what I’m looking for right now. The one by my house Is very close to this right now.
-
2nd check on 2 cams. Got what appears to be a buck I’d probably shoot if given the opportunity. Looks like he will be just a big 4x4. Only pic I got hopefully I’ll get some better ones next check.

My mouth is watering and not over the antlers. 🍖
I have this friend I show some of my game cam pics too.
He always says ......
If that's what you got on your cam ,then there surely is a bigger one around."Those are just the babies".
Great looking pics ,thanks for sharing.

Checked a couple of cams and added a new one today.

This is a specific members thread. Not being rude, but maybe start a generic cam thread you can and everyone else can post their random tc pics on rather than muddy up this individual thread

Thanks for sharing love that this has become an annual thread
-
Last cam pull I found a 5x5 that I thought was the buck I was looking for. Today I checked it and found the buck I was looking for. This buck is around 7
-
2 years now running $30 cams with 0 issues. Yet to have a failure and take good pics.
-
That buck at 8:44 is a dandy! Thanks for sharing.

I agree definitely a dandy!
I kinda like that last pic too,Little bambi moment.
And the bases on that last one,he could grow to be a beast in a year or two. Those bases scream giant.
Thanks for letting us have a look .👍
-
I think hes one of those bucks that will be a 4x4 his whole life. Ill see if he lives a few more years hes got a unique shape to his antlers.
-

You could be right, his one base is bigger than the other.
Strange.
-
The 5 with tall brows I found a old scouting pic of him 2 years ago. He looked like a nice 2 yr old with tons of potential . He hasnt really taken off like I expected, but maybe if he lives another year he could get bigger. Im pretty positive hes 4 this year.
-
A buck I have not layed eyes on before. Big split brow and extra off base. Looks like he may have some mass to him.
-
.

Ya that double eye guard ,I wouldn't think twice about him.
Great pics👍

Made it into my Idaho spot. This cam ran since last October. 4K pics. These cheap $30 cameras have been impressive. 3rd year now running them and have had no issues. This cam was buried under snow all winter and was still taking pics when I arrived yesterday. Batteries were still good so I left them in. Just regular Duracells .
Amazes me the elk move in here with the snow so deep. That cam is about 65” above the ground
-
No these are not coyotes as some member on here wanted to argue. I’ve watched this pack for 4 years now. None of them are different color they all look the same. They average 9 adults every year and some years have up to 6 puppies. I have heard them many of times, laid eyes on them 4 times. Yet unfortunately can never get a shot. Has 1 at 470 and it just disappeared, had 1 chase a deer by me archery elk hunting at 150 yards, last year had the whole pack laying on hill at 1,082 and was way to windy to even attempt a shot. Saw eyes in the dark on a hike out. The wolf on the far right in last pic I think is the alpha male he’s substantially larger than the rest of day 20 lbs on all of them.
-
need to set some traps out this winter! thanks for sharing the collection so far
-

Unfortunately this spot once it snows you would be better off being helicoptered in :chuckle:
These wolves follow the game down which could be 20 mi away.
-
Next set of pics are kinda a Timelapse of snow melt. First pic was the last pic I got in 2021 and dunno why it triggered. The next pic was in may. One thing I’ve noticed doing this over the years is once I start seeing chipmunks and birds the game shows up at the same time.

Out of pure curiosity, because I have never been a trophy hunter……what does the whitetail in your last photo score?
-
I haven’t really looked and tried to really score him, but a rough guess is 140. He’s my target this year. He’s 7 + now
-
Dandy buck! Hope you get it done!
-
Looks like a good one to be on top of your hit list.👍
Great photos as always👍
-
Incrementally, 140, 150, 160, etc., on and on, a lower percentage of bucks make each class as according to a few of the whitetail pubs (like QDMA), your average, typical whitetail buck seldom exceeds 130 inches with many not even getting there. Theres a good number of matures out there that sit right at 125ish. A 130, 135 buck on the hoof is always impressive.
Mature is the key word, score being secondary imho.
Ive got a 6 1/2 yr old that didnt even get to 130 but he was 21 wide, 22in mains, short points, huge fat body delicious buck, layers and layers of fat.
-
Yup! Most people don’t realize how many whitetail bucks will never exceed 130 it’s a lot! There’s almost a perfect storm to have a 160 plus whitetail . Starts that it has to have the genetics to grow that, then it needs to get to 5 plus years old which is super tough with hunting and predators .
-
Everyone always says "That was a 170" whitetail! Yeah, take another bong hit.
Thanks again for sharing these pics, they are awesome.
-
That buck pictured above has almost not changed a single bit in 3 consecutive seasons. It appears this year that he seems to added some mass on his beams, but some tines could be slightly shorter.
-

I’ve had quite a few like that over the years. I have killed a few of them as well. I remember a time when I used believe that every buck could eventually grow to 150” if he could just live to maturity. It took 100’s of thousands of trail cam pics over 10-15 years before I realized deer are like dudes in that respect…some win the genetic lottery and get to the NFL but most don’t. :chuckle:

-
You better kill that buck on post #138. That’s an awesome old deer
-
Great to see the calves, Roosevelt I assume, thanks
-
This buck is kinda a ghost, he’s walked by this camera twice in 45 days. Never hit another camera to the east about 1/2 mi. I’ve tried glassing him up in crp. He’s got a forked brow on one side and appears to have a extras off bases and almost palmated on g2
-
Some of the better bucks at one of my spots , 2 are getting a pass as I think they have potential to be special . These 2 get a pass from me
-
Next 2 I’ll shoot with the 5 pt being number 1 as I know how old he is and will never get any bigger . The other curvy ones seems to be older and has almost no brows
-

That's the hard part saying you will pass and just hope no one else will shoot them, they will survive the predators and also survive the winter. Worst thing about running trail cams is the decisions.

very few get to hunt these deer, maybe 1 other guy and lots of property around them thats off limits. Winter is almost a non factor for them, predators are pretty limited also. There is a cat in the area, but yet to see him in this area and seems to be staying higher up on the mt
its always a risk that one takes, but to kill a 170 buck you cant kill them when they are 140. Its worked more times then not for me over the last 20 years passing a buck or just not hunting them. I can only recall about 4-5 bucks that I thought had super potential that I knew were killed by hunters or just never showed the next year.

Smart really. Since the 2 seasons are not usually open at the same time they can scout the area to make sure it is safe for the other (deer comes out first during elk season and elk comes out first during deer season).
