Anyone found any yet? I see a few getting picked on the coast. I'm going to check my early spot Monday or Tuesday.
-
after the rain the other day, I was thinking about my nearby honey hole. Maybe tomorrow.

Let me know if you find any.
-
I checked my spot yesterday and found nothing.
-
I didn't go out. I've been busy with loan business, thankfully.
-
A buddy found a handful of buttons a few days ago. Anyone else found any? I haven't been able to get out and look again.
-
Was at the Puyallup safeway the other day and they had a big tote full. Checked a couple spots this last weekend and didn't see any.
-
Not a chanterelles but I'll take them.
-
Last one.

I STRONGLY prefer lobster mushrooms! Nice find.

I'm not a big fan of lobster mushrooms. But they are better than no mushrooms and went nice with steak tonight.

First chants of the year.

I think that fresh lobster shrooms are great! I’ve found that chanterelles keep falling farther and farther down the list of mushrooms I enjoy. They are the easiest to harvest tho! Nice job! I think even this tiny bit of moisture should have the shrooms popping
-
No chants today. But found a few lobsters. Also found some western varnished conks I'm going to dry.
-
Checked on my best spot today. :yike:
RIP

MR5
Check it later in the season and next year. Many times after the ferns grow over winter and after the first good rain chants will grow. I have found that this will happen only right after the trees have been cut and the next year only.

I'll keep an eye on it. This spot was good for 75#'s a year! Never seen another sole in there in over 15 years!

Anyone been out looking? I've been to busy to get out.

Going out right now. Let you know later
-
Checked my spot last weekend, nada. We need some rain!
-
Went out tonight and found some button chants. This spot produced about #150 last year and this year its been slow to start. We found about 2# in 30-40min of looking.
-
Finally made it back out.
-
There is some serious YUM factor in your immediate future.

Found these down by Raymond today. As smoky as it was I might not even need to cook them... lol My first time actually finding chanterelles, so I'm 90% confident. The flesh is white and string cheese like. I also found a couple others that were imposters, with orange flesh or hollow in the middle.

Nice haul!

Those look like white chantrelles. People say they are not as tasty as Goldens, but I like how they seem to be a little more hardy... Enjoy!

They were tasty, for sure. Really went well with my elk. :)

Is it too late for chanterelles now?
I need to find a new spot or 2. Mine are at least $30 away by F150 and I haven’t got out to them yet. I was waiting for rain, but did I wait too long.
-
I'm hoping they pop later this week from this rain. Good Luck

Definitely needed the rain to get things going, now we are up against the freeze bringing it to a close.
It's going to happen quick, so be ready!

I went to a couple of my spots over the weekend and not even a nubbin yet. I'm not sure how long it takes for them to sprout after a rain with the long dry spell we had? Maybe some of the local experts would have more insights.

7-10 days from the first good soakings is a pretty good guess.

What are the elevations and key factors for chants on the east side? Or is it the same as in the west in general? I found morels this year but my only experience with chants was growing up on the coast.
-
I just made a huge haul from up by Pierce and Headquarters in Idaho yesterday! They were everywhere! Picked a grocery bag full in about five minutes. Saw some nice corals too and a few I didn't know.
-
Just took a look at a historically very productive spot on Tiger Mtn. Nothing, as in no chantys or any other sort of mushroom - which is the really odd thing. Thinking the area is going to skip this year due to the long hot summer...

That's what I've been finding -no fungi of any sort- in previously productive spots. And I think you might be right.
-
I went to spot to hunt blacktail that I've picked chantrelles every year I've been there. Nothing. Usually the chantrelles are at least a nice way to take the sting away from getting ghosted by the bucks! But I went away empty handed.
-
Go later guys. They will be coming late due to the dry conditions. I just picked a ton up in Pierce Idaho after a light snowfall last week and the dingus was everywhere. It was pretty late due to the dry summer. I would go back each week if it's not too far out of your way.

I absolutely love mushroom hunting, on the eastside.
My 11 yr old son says i love it more than deer hunting.. (a little truth to that). Where we pick it is dismal, not a mushroom of any kind. To dry for too long and now the rain is here it won't warm up enough to get them going. Freezing temperatures coming early next week and that'll be it for the season. But things could be worse, im going elk hunting in the sawtooth mtn range on Tuesday for a week so there's that!!!
-
The dingus??? I'm not sure what happened there... Autocorrect? Anyway, the fungi was growing everywhere! Lol
-
Looked in two spots today that produce yearly and nothing.
-
Kept eyes open while deer hunting a new area, found one old one.
Area looked like it should produce but been so dry.
Going out tomorrow and will look in areas that have produced in the past.
-
Going to look tomorrow. A buddy found a bag full pretty close to where i'll be going yesterday.

Yeah I forgot to mention my advice for going later was for the Westside. You're correct, once it freezes you're probably not going to find anything until next year's morels come up. I think I got the window of opportunity perfectly last week when I was in Idaho. It's probably too cold up there now to find much of anything except some corals.
-
I’ll be in packwood for the late hunt. Any chance for them then and there?
-
I would think you could find them around Packwood. Might be too cold around there though. Here's tonights dinner... Chanterelle sauce fettuccine w/steaks! Cooking the water out of them then into the sauce to simmer a bit!

Check a couple of my favorite spots today and only found a few and a lot of rotten lobsters. Tried out a couple other spots and didn't find anything. Drove down a road I've never drove and spotted one from the truck. Got out a picked a Walmart sack full in about 20 mins.

There ya go! I basically did the same thing at that spot I found. Gotta keep looking!
-
What elevation are you guys finding them,
Areas I checked were desolate of any mushroom it seemed.
-
We could’ve picked 200 lbs this weekend if we wanted. Never seen so many in my life. North Idaho elk hunting.

I was around 1200 feet.

Thanks, will have to try again lower, I was 2000 feet and higher.

Worst chanterelle picking year i've ever had.
Also i'm curious if anyone knows anything about hedgehogs? I work with a guy that picks them every year but never in great numbers. He might get a quarter to half a walmart bag full two or three times a year. He is pretty tight lipped about where to even look for them. But he finally did tell me he goes back to his chanterelle patches in late November and early December and picks hedgehogs. Has anyone ever found what he is saying to be true? I didn't get a chance to go look at my spots late this year. But next year I will be checking.

Last year found hedgehogs late think October at 3500 feet. One area was an area I know chants were picked earlier in the year. Not exact spot but 15-20 yards down hill
