Was on Rokslide yesterday and a member had an encounter with a Youtuber about riding dirt bikes in areas it is closed when hunting. There is video out there of this evidence and the Youtuber fella released a podcast admitting it was him & his buddy. He kind of took the high road and blamed the buddy since he had tagged out already but the way i see it, he was aiding the hunter in calling and shouldn't of been ridding a bike. I have many thoughts on this but they really don't matter.
For the record, not trying to stir the pot or throw shade at this Youtuber. Listened to his Podcast and believe most of what he said. He seems like a good dude and everybody makes mistakes.
The issue i have is Rokslide, keeps deleting post like nothing even happened. The admin is saying we need to verify with the OP and F&G before unlocking. Seems like a big overreach for them..... They have numerous Topics bashing other people(Bowmar's being one of them which i totally get) but when it comes to there buddies, they silence them. Reminds me of CNN.
Maybe i'm out of line for posting this here but figured there is a bunch of fellas here that look on that site as well.
-
Yeah, I don't agree with them deleting the threads. But I can understand them not wanting 200 posts of people bashing a guy over hearsay from another hunter. Seems like they should be able to lock up a thread and have a moderator note that shows the status for anyone looking into the thread.
-
The road was closed to motorcycles or closed to hunting access with a motorcycle?

From what I understood, it's open to motorcycles and you can use one to get in there and set up a camp to hunt from...but you can't access the area daily by motorcycle to hunt.
Never heard of a reg like that but maybe it's normal in Idaho? :dunno:
-
Strange, I've never heard of that one either.
-
Idaho has some goofing motorized rules. But they are clearly spelled out in the Big Game Regs.
There is trails open for rec motorbike riders year around but when hunting, fish & game has them closed down. This applies to alot of the units in the southern units in Idaho. Been this way for years.

Not hearsay at all. There is video proof that was deleted from Rokslide. The Youtuber even admitted it on a Podcast...

The original post morning of 10/5 didn't include a video. It was posted later. Not sure when the podcast was uploaded on 10/5.
At the time of the original post and when the post was deleted it was hearsay. Now it isn't.
-
Not sure the timing of things when they got posted. Really didn't even want to make this post about the fella himself but felt like there needed to be a little context.
The main reason for this was to shed light on deleting video proof of something. Seems very weird to me.

no surprise that the youtuber elkshape did this at all, i read the thread on rokslide too. he has been doing this for years in north idaho too, ive seen him slide is bike under gates and outrun the guy that actually has permision and gate keys for the area to access his cabin. frustrating that he talks a big talk about how far back he gets, well i guess he isnt lying, just not how its implied.

Elkshape podcast was a cop out IMO. he did admit to not knowing the rules but still was a “poor me” type attitude about it

"We decided that we are moving away from allowing those threads on Rokslide. They drag the site down and prevent us from maintaining the upbeat positive atmosphere that we built this site on, and that most members want."
So they are not going to allow people to post about other people breaking the laws and messing up lawful hunters doing it the right way? Rather than just delete the posts that are not allowed just delete it all to keep that upbeat atmosphere and sweep it under the rug LOL.
Censorship at its best. One thing to delete posts that break the rules another to silence anyone who posts truthful facts about someone breaking the law.

More from Justin C.
"Remember that Rokslide wasn't built so you would have a platform to get the word out about things you don't like. It was built to help people in regard to hunting and gear.
Also, remember that we have a staff of about 25 volunteer moderators trying to keep things positive on the site. Threads like that are extremely hard to moderate because we then have to pick through the acceptable comments and the nonsense. It's impossible to get it right all the time so we end up with five more threads complaining about how we handled something."
So basically, get a Twitter for that stuff.

Dan’s Elkshape podcast is out on it. His employee got the written warning and not him as he was not hunting.

Does anyone else find it funny to have the name elkshape yet using dirtbikes to access hunting areas illegally.

Carp, I agree with you, but believe they addressed that in the opening remarks. If the OP had aired his issues and everyone have followed up with a "im sorry" or " that sux" life would be fine. But it doesn't stop there next thing you know guys are armchair quarterbacking and slinging hate and nonsense because of WHO it was, and not the crime itself. For the record im a member there, but not active. Was active long enough to keep trade credit, and now only go for the drama :chuckle: if it wasnt for this site i never would have known. I feel bad for the original poster because Staton was giving him props and apology in his podcast on it. But everyone else couldnt let it go. As for mod teams I assume its much like here, its all volunteer and not how anyone makes a living expecting someones volunteering their time to spend hours triaging remarks would be best practice, but seems unrealistic without compensation. Much like the tribal harvest topics here.

I'm just always so shocked how much worship these "influencers" get and how shocked everyone is when they get pinched. I'm a know nothing nobody but I got one toe dipped into "The industry" and promptly pulled it back out. It's a dark world full of secrets. One nobody should look up to. If you follow any of these people promptly hit the unfollow button when this kind of stuff happens. It's the only way to slow the infection which is "hunting celebrities" on our way of life :twocents:

I do get what you are saying. However, we have a heck of a lot less moderators here. Thats what we all do because we volunteer our time to help try to keep the site great. Even in a lot of the heated topics "like native hunting topics" we can delete bad stuff and keep most topics on track. If not they get locked. Some discussion is always a good thing. Don't have to agree on everything, just don't pour hate out or that will be removed.
I feel like this is a mess trying to be swept under the rug to help save followers. What do my feelings matter? They don't to anyone but me.

Bam......and we wonder why we are constantly having hunting/fishing freedoms stripped from us. It's amazing how the feeling of self worth has turned into a "liked" or "follow" button, regardless of how it was obtained. :twocents:
-
I'm not surprised at all and one of the many reasons I'm here 95% of the time. Quite a bit of group think originating from paid product placements and characters that can do no wrong. It was shut down because the offenders weren't going to own up to their mistake and it would turn into a battle between those that think for themselves and those that think their heroes are omniscient.

Most people won’t even take the time to find out what happened.

100% agree. And ElkShape specifically has always bothered me more than most.

I follow that final paragraph and 100 percent agree with you thats wrong if the case. If mods are giving special quarter to him because of his SM status. :puke: . I was just feeling bad for the OP on rokslide and his thread getting derailed, then deleted, possibly because folks simply couldnt miss the opportunity to smear the youtuber. But like i said I only saw the op and not the commentary that followed. In the end I realize why I whe. I spend time on a forum its this one

Alwinearcher I think is who they’re referring to.

Pretty much a Mic Drop on that one! Couldn't have been said better.
-
I don't do rokslide. I don't think I have ever even been to the site. This place was more than enough for me. We have run into this type of thing on here, and alwinearcher is a prime example.
Thankfully I also don't do podcasts so I don't know who this character is. I have little faith in anyone trying to make a buck based on their hunting popularity.
-
I enjoy Rokslide because there are lots of gear review/info on back pack hunting. Every forum has it's fan boys and good ole boy club. I've seen it here often. I choose to ignore most of it.
If you look close at most hunters that get the most or the biggest, there's usually something shady going on.

Yep, he's the one. Got into a bit of trouble over in Montana.
