A buddy and I spend a weekend or two each year just exploring entirely new places and next weekend we’ve decided to do some predator hunting with my new Foxpro Xwave. A cat has been my primary goal this year with no luck yet on the west side despite several days of blind calling without the aid of snow so we’re going to goof around just over the pass. Coyotes are certainly hoped for on our set ups as well. We’re staying in Yakima and every time I drive up the 821 to Ellensburg I’ve eyed that Umtanum side and thought it’d be fun to check out.
I know we’ve got some folks on here familiar with that area. Just hoping to hear if we can expect to find decent predator numbers up in there. I’ve identified a few general access points and area we want to see if we can reach that I won’t list here, but if someone familiar with the area could let me ask a couple questions about where we are thinking I’d appreciate a PM.

Coyotes up the yin and yang, but haven’t seen cat sign for some time.

Feel free to PM

You’ll find both

Wait for the first snow in kittitas valley. Get up early or you will behind the eight ball competing against the rest of the locals looking and doing the same as you. When you cut fresh track either walk them out or at least follow for awhile then set up with your predator call.

If you’re not set on that one place, I’d look at the wdfw and DNR land in the Wenas. Seems like there’s always a few cats up that way harassing elk when they come down to feed in the winter.
