hey everyone i'm kinda new to the site and new to hunting. i have all ways wanted to hunt elk. i know that there is a pretty good size heard in kapowsin. i know not a single hunter is gonna give up there spots but where are the best places to go out there? please help.

Can't hunt in the main kapowsin tree farm for elk without a special permit.
-
There hasn't been any elk in Kapowsin for years you should think of looking elsewhere. ;) :bdid:

Just kidding...It's tough...All private land and you just have to put in the door knocking time. Problem is you have to have permission to hunt and then hope that the elk are on the places that you have permission for. I have 5 or so parcels that range from 5-200 acres and was never able to have the elk there when I was. Saw elk just not on huntable land. Those elk aren't stupid and they get a ton of local pressure.

To really get into the great herds you have to buy a John Hancock Pass. But that doesnt even mean you get to hunt elk in John Hancock, because you then have to be drawn, with them only giving out like six tags

I grew up right in the middle of the Kapowsin Tree Farm, back when it was owned by St Regis, then Champion then IPP so on and so on. There are some monsters in there, and I saw quite a few growing up. About 15 years ago we had an 8X8 pushing a dozen cows up behind the house that was incredible to watch. This is a special draw only. Get ahold of Hancock Timber. Good Luck.

ok so how do i go about getting a special draw? is that through wdfw?

You have to buy the Hancock timber land usage permit first. Then you may have a chance at an elk if you win there raffle. PB

when you by the permit to hunt hancock your name goes in the drawing. There is thousands of acres to hunt if you get drawn. And they shut down the property to everyone else during your hunt. The elk are everywhere in the property,if you get drawn and dont tag a awesome bull, your sitting in your truck at the gate not hunting
-
how do i get the tag though? who do i call and where do i go?
-
You can't "Get" a tag....you have to buy the $300 access permit before they sell out to get in the drawing for about 6 permits. They are sold out for this year and next year the permits will be going up to $350. I believe they limit the permits to about 1100 and they sell fast because people want to be in that drawing for that super hunt. The problem is you have pretty bad odds to EVER draw one of those permits.........Les
