Go where the ducks are.

Be ready for them prior to legal shooting time.

Sit still when they approach... that includes your dog.

Be alert and look in all directions. Sometimes they sneak up from weird angles and where you least expect it.

Use decoys and a blind if you can.

If you suck at calling then don't scare them away. Let your decoys do the work instead and work on your calling elsewhere besides the field until you are proficient.

If you can... Wait until they get real close before you shoot em. Be patient. Don't shoot the first bird if there are 6 more behind it. That way your partner get's a chance too.

Be quiet. Sometimes they come in loud and high. In some cases I have heard them whistling and/or their wings before I put a visual on them.

yup.  The point is that you want them to drop, well, dead.  Be the good sportsman that you are.  Know your range.  The thrill is in the closer range anyway, IMO.  Faster, louder, closer for the dogs too.  Oh, and the safety pep talk with your partners is probably good too.  What ever it is.  Whenever I'm out with a partner, whatever we hunt we just cover the basics.  Just because.  Then everyone feels sharp.  The point is to have a blast...and come homein one piece. ;)

I'm going to be 60 Sat I can't remember all this stuff. When I was 20 years younger my memory sucked then too.
Even the iceman was right on (WTF)  know where your birds will drop (after you shoot) don't put your dog at risk with swift water, thin ice,and so on. I would hope you go out a lone or with only a friend or two. Learn what huntings about. I've seen duck blinds so full of guns no one knows who hit what.Seems like they leave more cripples and and trash behind. Have a way to retrieve your downed birds.

Some of the information you were given was very good. The other crap was just wise cracking that sounds like being in a locker room full of 7th and 8th graders, so just ignore them and go with what seems like good information. Have a good day and I hope the information helps.
