Went out today to find a deer to shoot but spent a lot of time with some creepy crawlies instead.
This a pretty good sized Mantis that was in the road. About 4 inches long and real aggressive to.

This was a cool looking snake that was in the road. It was about 18 inches long and when I got close it flattened its whole body like a cobra hood.

Walked right past this bush and didnt see the hive until the return trip. Could have been a bad day.

did you throw rocks at the hive :chuckle: :bdid:
-
No but if I had had a shotgun I dont think I could have controlled myself. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Cool pics. You should have picked up the snake and thrown it at the hive?
-
that would be a cool hive to go back and get this winter, just don't let it thaw out or you will have a bad day :bdid:

There was a few hundred thousand of these at my elk camp this year. Made for some cool pictures. Never knew they hatched like this. The sky was full of them flying around. The dragon flies were gorging themselves on them.
-
WOW that is cool. Havnt seen that before.
-
some great pics guys!

Roar! Im a dinosaur.

Tree rat. You know your camo works pretty good if these guy are eating in a tree right next to you instead of letting everything in the woods know where you are.
-
Reminds me of the walking stick we saw one year on the East side except it was same color as the brown grass. Cute pictures!
-
New resident in the strawberry patch. I love any critter that eats bugs.

Cool Thread... If that newts head was in perfect focus that would be an awesome pic!!! (its a great pic anyways!)
I love those little tree frogs....
-
those are awesome shots. what type of camera did you use?
-
Saw dozens of these today. This is the only one that still had a nice looking shell. Heard a lot of grouse drumming but never got to see one.

Let's market our new camo brand - Treefrog ™ :chuckle:
-
This came out pretty good for a point-and-shoot macro.
-
Cant believe these guys are still out. They came out to enjoy the sun.
This little guy must be brand new because he is very small.
This one was much bigger and was a little camera shy. I tried very hard to get some close up shots but she did not want any part of the camera in her face.

that is hilarious he has good listening ears....I find the chipmonks (ground/tree dwellers with stripes in all sizes) to be good company except when they try and attack me, the squirrels however feel the need to scream to the world about every little thing :chuckle:
-
Here are a couple I took with my phone. Saw the frog out steelhead fishing and the hive was at my buddies house (notice the empty bee trap) it wasnt recently cleaned they just weren't falling for it. Hope you enjoy.
-
Gotta show this post to my daughter, just about all her favorite critters...except the bee's :chuckle:

This was VERY hard to get. I had to hold the flashlight in one hand, so that the camera could focus, and hold the camera in the other while zoomed all the way in. Everytime I tried to press the button the image would blur or a snow flake would get in the frame. eventually got one though. The owl was very patient. : )

Fun thread going on here!!! Nice photos everyone.
-
Cool thread.... just warn me if you are going to put up a spider... i will close my eyes and scroll past it! :yike: :yike: I love what spiders do, but I think they are the creepiest looking critters there are!
-
Warning to Elliot, spiders coming! :sry:
I actually didn't notice the spider at first, and neither did the bee.
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b60/renegade54/renegade54008/_WDS4323_zpsfaff3f6e.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/renegade54/media/renegade54008/_WDS4323_zpsfaff3f6e.jpg.html)

The spider attacked and they fell from the blossom, but the spider let out a lifeline. It was a short battle and the action was too fast for me to photograph.
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b60/renegade54/renegade54008/_WDS4383_zps07a874a2.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/renegade54/media/renegade54008/_WDS4383_zps07a874a2.jpg.html)
Once the bee was subdued, the spider adjusted his grip.
(http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b60/renegade54/renegade54008/_WDS4413_zps9db76ae2.jpg) (http://s17.photobucket.com/user/renegade54/media/renegade54008/_WDS4413_zps9db76ae2.jpg.html)
And hauled him up onto a leaf where he could be consumed at leisure.

While spending time in Papua New Guinea a few years back I was fascinated by these spiders - they were brightly colored and always put their webs in the most common walking paths.
The grub was added to meal time - I'm adventurous but could not have stomached that - no matter what Bear Grylls might say about the protien comment.
Found the large toad who acted like a drill sarge staring ya down.
-
Thanks Rob
Nice Ones BASIL.

Gecko fell out of the roof in the jeep in Kona onto my wife
She freaked out and took her seat belt off. I got popped for $102 for her not wearing a seat belt. She went in the store and it was my job to get him out. Too bad he didt climb the windshield when the cop was there.
