I'm gonna start this topic with a lamp that I just made, took about 4 hours and cost about 20.00, one of the ways that I spend time when the weather is bad or cant get out doors, it makes it easier to take a day off work to go horn hunting, post pictures of lamps, coat racks, knife handles, anything that your proud of from antlers that you find, also I'm looking for new ideas and this is a good place to start.
-
just the thought of drilling or cutting a shed makes me :'(. looks good tho! as bad as it sounds i would rather pay big money for one then hurt my own babies! :chuckle: They look much more comfortable in stacks in the corner of my man cave.
-
I make a couple piles around the house. I always tell my wife ive just got to find a few more then i'll make something. I just cant bring myself to cutting or drilling into one.

Here is a few items, from key chains to lamps. I made the big deer lamp along time ago and it has seen better days and I didnt hide the wire, but its still cool.
-
The lamps look great!
-
I have people I know that ask why I don't make something out of all my horns but like most of the other guys on here I can't bare the thought of hurting one of them. :'(

You sound like my buddy, he would rather buy a few from ebay to build a lamp before he drills into his own, but trust me it gets easy when they are flowing out of you doors and you have them shuffed in every corner. I have used my own antlers on all my projects and it hasnt maid a dent on the stash. Plus you can go out next year and replace them. I have also givin away a crap load. I do regret selling about 300 pounds back 2004, I had some good sheds I wish I still had!
-
Very nice work guys!! danderson would you call that a scratch post for the chickens?? :chuckle:
-
I used to feel that way to, and I have a few choice monsters that I would never alter, but I have a large pile of bone and starting to trip over the dang things.
Maybe you can use them to make a fence for your chicken coop.... :chuckle: Nice pile of antlers, and good looking chickens.
-
Good work guys! I would like to make a cribbage board if I'm lucky enough to find a large elk shed. ;)

If they really bother you stuffed in every corner of your house, you could just give me what you find this year and then you wont have so many.
-
What is the market on "raw horn"? And who do you sell too?
I have a few in the yard that the squirrels are eating, maybe I should bring them inside.
-
The trick to making a lamp or coat rack look good takes time and it took me years of collecting before I felt ready to make a lamp, I started with a how to tape I picked up at one of those sportsman shows, the finished product should look like a unaltered natural shed antler, that looks as good as the day you found it.
-
One of our members did a christmas tree with them last year and shared a few pics on here. Can't remember who though. (I think it was this site)....turned out awesome. If I remember right he didnt drill any of them. I think he just intertwind them together.....about 5' or 6' feet tall.
-
I've made a couple things, here's a lamp I did last year. I really took my time to make it as nice as it could be. The drilling is the hard part, I broke a bit and almost got it stuck, Getting the color of the putty right is key. I think this one would sell but I'm not ready to part with it.
-
I love the Euro mounted on the shed. thats sweet.
-
Maybe next time I'll make a powder measure for the muzzleloader or something like that. Nice trinkets.

That is sweet, I might try that today since it's pissing rain... shop day with sheds!
-
Hey Wastick, How did you attach that to the wall? Dremal a notch to fit over a screw?
-
VERY nice! you can't even tell anythings there. Wish I had more sheds.....

Yeah i think i might make an afternoon project outta my euro mounts

Good work guys! I would like to make a cribbage board if I'm lucky enough to find a large elk shed. ;)
you can get creative with cribbage boards. That is my dads favorite thing to make. Here is one he made for me out of two deer sheds. He likes to use elk and moose sheds though. He made one for UncleBuck on this site too. That was out of one deer shed. Maybe he can post it.
Right on Slinger! Your Dad does some nice work! I can't wait until the elk start dropping bone!

Well here is my attempt at mounting a euro on a shedder. I didn't mount my skull straight up and down. Instead the skull follows the contour of the main beam. I meant to do that (this means I accidentally drilled the hole a little crooked) :chuckle: :chuckle:. It being crooked and all I figured it would look better in a corner. Anyways... it didn't turn out as good as Wastickslinger's, but I'm happy with it and it was good practice. Thanks for the idea Wastickslinger!
-
Nice job, I kind of like the tilt.
-
You guys make some good looking stuff out of your sheds. I don't shed hunt but I stumble upon some every now and then and they just end up in the bend collecting dust for the most part
-
Some very cool stuff in here :IBCOOL:
-
Some great ideas, I have been working on a few lamps and will post them soon, here is one I made a few years ago (its for sale)

Looks good!
I had to lay the skull on a lot of sheds before I found the one with the right shape. Mine follows the contour which makes it a slight turn as well. I think that is the only way to make it solid. It looks like it was turned a little on purpose.

That looks really cool danderson!

I've made a ton of drawer pulls, door handles and coaster holders out of antlers. Back when I was a bank maggot plunking for steelies I made a set of rod holders out of 2 pt sheds and bamboo. An old dude at the river loved them so much that I gave them to him.
-
I wanted to keep this topic going to get more ideas for making lamps or whatever else people do with all there antlers, or creative ways to display your collections.
-
These were sheds that my dad and I found. My friend and I put it together. I have enough sheds to work on a couple more but just haven't found the time. Macabees gift shop in cle elum sells lamps like this for $1000-$1200.
-
I seen the ones at Macabees, Mine are for sale for about half of what they want for theres, I like your tall lamp, here's some pics. of some that I have made lately.
-
Here is a few of my projects

nice job, carpsniperg2, do you knap.
Yep Yep  Those are all horns from my property and knifes blades knapped by my won hands
Thanks guys
-
very cool carp!

Thats one thing that I cant do is make arrowheads, my brother makes em better than any I have ever seen, you might know of him, cabelas has him doing his thing at the lacy store some times. Its an art form that not many folks can master, true art.
-
I am in the very bottom of washington. I have only been to the cabelas up there 2 times. It is indeed a art and you just cant bash 2 stones together or manhandle any points. I have broke more then I care to say. I know about 50% as I am self taught. If I could sit down with a few of my friends that I know, I could really learn a thing or 2! I am getting better and better but it take a lot of years to get good. I only knap in the winter months when I am not hunting or farming. I can make pretty decent arrow heads. I work better on larger pices like my knives. I have some I need to work over and make some arrow heads with so I can stick them in some critters :IBCOOL:
-
What tools do you prefer for knaping? I know there are tools on the market for this as well as antler. I am self taught as well and getting better. Just curious.
-
danderson did that eagle out of the moose happen to be for sale in the roslyn area, if so i picked that thing up up it was pretty cool until I gave it away as a christmas gift

I do some with traditional hammer stone and antler billets. Most of the time I use a copper pressure flaker and copper boppers.
-
Its getting to be that time of year again when people start getting creative with there shed finds, lets see um.
-
Here are a few that I've worked on. First is a deer antler handle for a homemade knife and metal match combo. Second are some arrow points made out of moose antler for a self bow and arrow set. Last is a deer handle and elk for-leg bone knife.

Here is one that my buddy made for my folks. The bottom two are a matching 6x6 and the top horn is a monster single 8. He did a great job. Routed in the power cord down the back and then puttied over it and cut up part of another horn for the pull cord on the lamp. My folks love it.

My first attempt at call making. Sounds great. Amazing pup distress
