Title: Want to go hunting?
Post by: carpsniperg2 on April 12, 2011, 02:03:14 PM
Hello fellow members!

I wanted to offer an idea that could bring members together and provide some great opportunities for members to meet each other. After putting some thought into it, the idea that came to mind is this new thread.

Want to go hunting?
If you are going to be doing a hunting trip you could ask other members if they would like to go hunting with you. Post the details of your trip in this thread.

Here is a list of useful details. Date of the trip/ game you are after/area that you will be hunting /gear needed/ what you plan on hunting.

FYI - This thread is not for guides or anyone trying to make money by taking another person hunting. But there is nothing wrong with asking someone to share the costs of gas/etc. To go hunting, you will need to talk about this with the person you are going hunting with. I would suggest you use your own discretion regarding who you choose to meet, but this could be a great way to meet new members and have some fun hunting! I also suggest that if anyone approaches you asking you to pay for a hunting trip, please report it. Good luck if you go Hunting.

That is a great idea carpsniperg2!
I recently moved to Washington from California where I did a lot of water fowls and varmints ( jackrabbits and coyote) hunting. I also like target shooting at the range or the desert (California). I would love to meet someone here in Washington to spend some time at the range.
I live in Snohomish area, so if anyone want to hang out at the range, or plant to do some scouting road trip let me know.

I am new and planning to go out next month for turkeys. Willing to pay my way, I have everything I need except a hunting partner. I would like to dive into larger game when the time comes if someone has an extra seat.

I also have family that has property on Ebey Is. which is great for waterfowel. Maybe someone is interested in a trade?

I just moved to Spokane, WA and would love to meet fellow members who hunt. I hunt just about anything: deer, elk, bear, moose, goats, coyotes, ground hogs, etc......just don't know the land layout.  Its also a safety issue to be out in the back woods alone...so if anyone is in the eastern WA area, drop me a note

Sorry to say it, but trying to organize a meeting/hunt once season has already started (during short seasons for big game) is probably tough to do as most people have already figured out their plan of attack.  It's a bit different than going fishing.

Good hunting!

I have hunted with a number of people from the site  :dunno: I haven't killed anything yet but had some really good fun and met some great people so yes there are people meeting up, it may be a location thing I was able to travel for a couple of the hunts, but many happened in my backyard so to speak, and I spent lots of time out on my own as well.  I'm now on the east side and starting over learning the area and not even sure I will hunt yet, but again have had a bunch of help already even if I haven't met and gone hunting with anyone yet.

Thats really good to know yar maybe it is our area, but i am willing to travel as well.  I know ellensburg pretty well because i use to go to college there, and have hunted some of the areas, personally never really had a ton of luck in that area because it was wall to wall hunters and unsafe to shoot.  Maybe some day we'll have devise a plan and go out and scout some areas sometime.  I love meeting new folks as well.

I'm new(ish) to hunting but not new to the woods.  Was a SAR volunteer for 8 years and spent a lot of time trekking around Snohomish, King, Skagit, Whatcom and Chelan counties.  I've had to step back from SAR to spend more time at home with my wife and kiddo so hunting has become my reason to get back out in the woods.  This will be my third season and I've yet to punch a tag.  I'm mostly looking for a partner since I don't think it is super safe to hike into the woods alone to hunt.  (Although I do it since I don't have a partner.)

I've done some pre-scouting this season which I consider mostly a bust due to lack of animals so I guess I know a few places not to go.  However I'll share location of an area that I believe is full of Yogies due to the close encounter I had there backpacking over memorial day this year.  2 bears seen on day 1 and 5 by another member of my party on day 3 on the way out.  I also saw plenty of deer and elk sign there while on that hike.  I went back when black bear opened but struck out but again was on lots of elk sign.  I have modern tags for deer, bear, cougar, and western elk.  I'll hunt coyotes too if you have a spot you like.  I have some days off I can use and was thinking of Friday through Monday of modern opening weekend. Friday I'd be able to set up a camp and do some scouting but my morning might be taken up that day so I'd be looking at a little bit later start.

I've got all the equipment I need and even some extra if you need a pack or room under a bivy shelter/tent.  I'd perfer to buddy up with somebody on the more experienced side because as I said I'm new(ish) to hunting.  Of course I'm willing to share gas and I have a 4x4 SUV.

My Dad and I sell hunting supplies, fishing supplies and firearms. Can't trade in land or gas money, but would be happy to do a little trading in supplies!

This year I bought archery tags for Western WA elk, also got a tag for deer, bear and cougar. Would really enjoy going bear or cougar hunting, as Ive never been, but frankly Im down for all four

Im a bowhunter and carry a Taurus 9mm at all times unless Im hunting rifle. I use a .260 Browning.  :)

I also bought Western Wa. archery elk tags I am planing on heading to Ilwaco 11/7 or so - 11/12 or so. I scored a friends cabin there. Never hunted that area before so it's kinda just shooting from the hip type hunt. He gave me some good hints where to go. I would like some company if anyone is interested. GaGal hunter if you don't have $$ no worries, I have the truck and am going anyways. Or if someone else is interested.. let's talk and see, Not much time though.

Hi everyone. I am new to the Issaquah/Sammamish area, originally from Minnesota and love bird hunting. Duck, Grouse, Pheasant any kind of birds really. I was wondering if anyone near my area was intrested in bird hunting and if they would like to meet up for some good old fashioned bird hunting. I have all my own equipment besides the most important thing needed for bird hunting, A DOG!!!!! Please reply if you wouldn't mind an experienced hunter tagging along with you.

I wouldn't mind going out and helping out for an elk hunt, if i could get some meat in return or bear, or someone to help me bag some game and sharing what I shoot, but due to being a full time teacher I am only available on the weekends.  Good hunting to all!!

I am planning on taking the week after Thanksgiving off and trying to fill my Western Washington Archery Elk tag. Is anyone going out that needs another body?

I live on Whidbey Island and can travel anywhere. I am 42 years old, married with 3 kids and gainfully employed. (I feel like I'm applying for a spot on the dating game or something...) :chuckle:

Looking forward to hearing from anyone.

Thanks,

Hey Ratherbefishin, I have a hunting partner (my 7 year old) but wouldn't mind getting together with somebody for the late Western Elk Archery hunt.  I live in Marysville and there's not much close to here for us to hunt.  :dunno: Like you I'm married and have 3 kids so I know how busy you are.  I have a sorta committed hunting partner but he hasn't really given me the green light that he's in for the late hunt.  Send me a PM on what your plans might be.  Late hunt starts the day before Thanksgiving and goes until the 15th of December depending on which units you want to hunt.

Hello, I live in Bellevue and I am new to the area. I grew up hunting and fishing with my father and I did hunt with a group of friends for a few years in Oregon, doing waterfoul, deer and elk. Due to living in Nashville TN for a while and moving to Seattle 4 years ago with a busy schedule, kept me from going hunting and pursue what I love to do. Throughout the last few years I sold a couple of guns and now I am back to the "roots" using a 12 gauge for all hunting (just like my father did). I am in the market to purchase a 30-06 at the end of the season ;) . I am looking for a hunting partner for weekends, someone who knows some places around here (I'm willing to drive some distances too), with some experience and is trustworthy. I am open for hunting all year but would be really nice to take advantage of the deer and elk season now as well the waterfoul season until the end of the year.I am responsible, trustworthy, safe and will be a pleasure to share expenses. Please let me know what you think.Tibi

  Hello  All,
I am heading out Tuesday very early morning from Lake Stevens for Elk (primary)/ deer late bow season in southwest Washington. Tuesday planning on scouting some select areas in 503, 505, 520, 506,530 and hunting opener Wednesday. No partner around this year (he has bad knee) and I have been working out of town so haven't been scouting since July. Will go back for Thursday for family dinner and head back Friday early so  I am in the field by daylight. I am behind the ball this year. Last season hunted Elk 673, 672, 660, 506, 530 (more gates closed this year) seen quite a few no good shots, got my deer at 621 last year early season. So if anyone is going to be out or wants to meet out there let me know.
Dave

Hey everybody, my name is Dan and im not so new to elk hunting, all the guys i hunted with have moved on to different seasons so i dont really have any huntin partners left. I've got a westside archery tag, Im fairly good at tracking, ive got modern archery equipment and know how to handle it well. (lots of practice time) im strong and able to hike and pack long distances. been hunting elk for about twevle years with some succsess, still havent killed a bull but meat is meat. I'm very in tune with sharing the kill with anyone involved in the hunt. It was a tough year for deer for me me so it would be great to put some elk in the freezer. So if anybody knows where the critters live and need a birddog in the thick stuff im your guy. Shoot me a pm and lets talk.

Hi all,

I'm a new hunter, actually haven't gone yet. Took me a whole freakin' year to get into a hunter safety class that jived with my work schedule and didn't fill up instantly.

My brother-in-law recently moved to Washington from Iowa, where he was a big-time hunter. He does bow and modern, deer / elk / pheasant. We are trying to get into hunting here. Me, I'm a complete novice, and him, he's trying to find some good places. My understanding is that he's been getting pretty discouraged because he doesn't know where to go. I understand that hunters have a sort of etiquette that they don't give away their hunting spots, makes perfect sense to me, but also leaves us, new to Washington, pretty mystified on where to go.

We live in Tri-Cities Richland/Kennewick/Pasco. This weekend we are going into the blues to a place my brother-in-law has scouted out but he doesn't seem very confident that there's a lot of deer where he's going.

I was hoping to get some advice on how to go about finding a decent place to hunt. I appreciate the importance of "boots on the ground" scouting places out, looking for deer sign, etc, but how do you know where to go in the first place?? What methods do you recommend for finding a good spot? What methods can be employed to effectively approach private landowners? Just looking for advice, thanks in advance for any input.

This late in the game, your behind for access to private land.

I'd stick to the public land that you have already scouted. Theres deer in the Blues. A lot of land and its thick. Get out and have fun

Yeah we have plans for this year but I'm still hoping to get some general advice for next year, particularly how to approach private landowners in general, what is good and what may be perceived as bad.

I'd  also be curious to hear about general etiquette for getting permission to hunt private lands.  I would like to work with a landowner or two from early in the year so I could get to know the area and game.

Hello, I'm new to Washington (Seattle) but I hunted a great deal of small game and birds in Arizona.

I would like to get into deer hunting but I have almost zero experience with that. (My family back in AZ tried to go deer hunting and came home empty handed 15 years in a row)

I need to get the WA hunter safety course done (Born in 1973, one year too late, pfft) but I've got a nice .308 rifle.

Hoping to find some folks that wouldn't mind a lone tag-along.

Thanks.

I'm looking to Tag-a-long with someone as I haven't been hunting since I was 13-14 with my step-father(r.i.p) in Kansas (Stevens County)  I am 27 soon to be 28.  The only thing I have right now is a bow and 1 arrow with a broken broad head that was given to me by a friend a few years ago.  I've never used it.  Anywho I would just like to get the feel for it again, whenever time permits.  I also have no hunting gear whatsoever.  I live on Fort Lewis.

First step would be to take the bow to an archery shop and have it looked at to see if it is useable.  Then, get some arrows and start practicing.  Aiming for next season is probably your best bet unless you can get on this quickly and take to the bowshooting since there is only a month left of the archery deer season.  Good luck.

Depends where you are living.  Some places have regs against shooting bows in residential areas, but many don't.

I actually live on North Fort about a 2 minute walk from American Lake.  I'm pretty sure they arent allowed to be shot on post. But i'll have to research more. Thanks

Hi All,

I'm new to the Lake Stevens area and I'm learning to hunt (no family was into it).  I purchased a small game license and a migratory license as well.  I've read some great information on here about Ebey and Spencer Island as well as Headquarters.  Would love to learn from the many experts on here.

I am brand new to hunting, did the online portion for the permit will be getting it finalized with the MIL ID when I get home. I am only in town 2-3 weeks at a time so Coyotes and other year round critters seems to be all that is available to me.

I am interested in where to hunt Yotes safely, and any tips. Does anyone know of a specific area that they would recommend for a newbie? I have been reading about scent and calls and from what I can tell a standard 223 AR with a 1x4 optic seems appropriate.  I really do not want to buy another gun at this point. The goal for this year is to start with varmints and hopefully work my way up to deer or elk in the fall if I can get home.

Cougar and Bobcat looks like fun, but probably not for the new guy. I would also be interested in learning how to scout and track Deer and other game. I am in North Seattle but can travel just about anywhere in the state. I expect to be home in about two weeks. I can help out with Gas and whatever.

regards

I am looking for a muzzleloader partner this year.  Have been mostly hunting the east side for the last five years and have been lucky enough to harvest some Mulies and a whitetail.

Wanted to stay closer to home this year and get a muzzleloader blacktail.  I will probably buy the multisession tag that I drew but rifle would be the back up plan.

Looking for someone that wants to get one and put in some effort.  I have summers off and fish a lot but could definitely allot some time for scouting.

I have a place to stay in Long Beach but was thinking of hunting closer as in the Shelton area or maybe Kitsap units?  Skokomish maybe?  I'm open I guess.

Interested?  Because we should start soon.

I recently got stationed in Western Washington and moved to the Silverdale area. I grew up hunting everything that I could on family owned land in Texas. I am looking to find some places to go hunting and/or some people to go with. Deer, ducks, small game and anything else that I can eat would be wonderful, but I will go hunting for anything legal if given the chance. At this point, I just miss being out in the woods with a gun in my hand. Any help would be appreciated.

So I'm re-introducing to hunting.  I hunted growing up in Montana and later in Texas, but that's been a while (I'm late 30's now).  I haven't hunted WA yet, but I'm looking for partners, locations, etc.  I'm hoping to do some Deer hunting, Elk if it's possible and then I'm open to just about anything else (Bear/Cougar/Coyote/Turkey, etc).   Any advice for WA hunting?  What are the needs, wants and luxuries of hunting (besides the obvious:  gun/knife/license/tags).  Thanks and I hope to meet up with what seems to be a good community on this board.

So like a lot of the posts on here I'm new to the area and would love a hunting partner to go kill stuff with. The Army stationed us on JBLM and we are loving the great NW. I have hunted deer and small game, firearm and archery for the past 20 yrs but the eastern/central Part of the country. Very diffrent out here as you all know. Come hell or high water ill be spending time this fall in the woods with a weapon. It will just be great if I'm partnered up w someone and using my time effectively in the woods. If someone needs a battle buddy I'm willing to learn and do what I can to slay some critters.

Would really like to set something up with someone that knows what they are doing so that I can learn from them.  Will have license and tags ready for the trip.

Moved to Seattle 6 years ago from Colorado. Went Turkey hunting this year, and it was first time Hunting in Washington. No Turkeys were bagged  >:(

Very interested in Rabbit hunting this year, just need to know of good area's and would be grateful for a guide. More in this post http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,131614.0.html (http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,131614.0.html)

Just got my Mosin setup with a scope and am 101% into Deer hunting this year. I know there is a challenging area that opens up Sept 15. Not sure if I am up to that climb without a good guide.

Thanks All,
Craig

Hey all,

I'm new to hunting this season, though not really a stranger to the outdoors or shooting. Been out in the Palouse (wsu) for a few years now and seen/heard a lot about hunting. Thought I'd give it a shot as its always appealed to me. Hoping someone out there in eastern Washington would be willing to show me the ropes, or let me tag along to get a feel for the sport. Definitely willing to put in the effort. Would prefer modern rifle, although I would definitely be interested in archery as well.

Feel free to send me a pm. Would also be interested in forming a group with other newbies as well.

I'd be open to it as well, I've been in washington for about 4 years now but haven't done any hunting, just some fly fishing. I grew up in Arkansas hunting there and Kansas as well. But this part of the country is quite different, it was much easier when I grew up learning where all to hunt. Anyways I'll be gearing myself up pretty soon for modern gun and possibly late archery. Would love to be able to start off hunting out here on private lands where it's a little less stressful to start!

Be sure to read the regs carefully, you have to choose modern rifle OR archery seasons.

Good call on the thread. Im new to achery as of this year. Im military up here at Ft Lewis but Im from Nampa Idaho. I just got back from two weeks hunting in Idaho and pulled my first muley and cow. Im absolutely hooked and heard theres a late archery season here. Im all for a good elk or deer hunt or both. My family made sure I was well versed in tracking (2 deer+1 elk w bad shots=18hrs of tracking BLAH!!!) But if someone knows this area, and wants a partner to hunt with, that can call elk (havnt called deer yet) and track, Id loved to join ya and learn this area as well. Being military I would only be able to hunt at night and weekends though.

Hunting partner wanted for archery Elk early season (East side 352 Nile unit). I am 32, live in Lake Stevens. Avid hunter, however this is my first archery hunt of any creature...
No smoking, no drinking. I have my own truck and camper.
I planned to go solo for the entire first week of September (2nd through 6th, coming home on the 7th), and still am planning that however I thought maybe somebody out there is heading over for the same hunt at the same time.
Possibly arrive a day or two before it opens. I like to get out away from the roads...cover ground on foot or mountain bike.
PM me if you want to chat.
Thanks.

I am new to hunting in Washington but was able to hunt for both BT and elk last year. I did not have any luck with either so will be looking to scout out a different area of the state, probably the Blue Mtns of southeastern Wa. I met a couple nice people but they are out of my league when it comes to keeping up with them and their kids.
I am 57, non smoker, one drink in camp is fine, will put some distance in but not able to hike 15 miles a day. If anyone wants to join either on a scouting trip or two or the hunt, I welcome the company. Not easy to break into a hunting camp. Also, I am not set on where I am going to hunt. I have some suggestions on where to scout but if someone has a honey hole, I would be glad to drive. I get an F150 4X4 from work with a full tank of gas to start with so that will help with costs.

I want to go hunting.  Modern Firearm, elk, west side to be exact.  Grew up hunting elk with my family in OR, but haven't gone since I've been in WA because I didn't have anyone to go with.  I decided not to let that stop me this year.

I live in Gig Harbor, and am looking for someone to point me in the right direction.  Could someone just tell me which units around Kitsap/Pierce/Mason counties or the Olympic peninsula have elk AND public access?  I know how to scout and hunt, I just need to know a ballpark where.

General ideas, or an offer to get together would be greatly appreciated.

http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/prospects/ (http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/prospects/)  Click on districts 15-17 for the areas you're asking about.
Most of the elk that can be hunted for the areas you're asking about will be located on the western half of the peninsula.  There's some elk on the eastern half, but they tend to be permit.  The regs say kitsap is open, but I don't know when the last time an elk was seen in Kitsap.  624 has season, but they like to stay tucked away in the elk area and rarely wander out.  You can head out to the DNR land in 603 and work your way west and south through all kinds of DNR and Forest Circus land.  601,602, 603, 607, 612, 615, 618, 638 and 648 are all open and have some kind of land that is either FS or DNR.  Some units like 607 get bow and muzzy season before rifle and it can get a lot of pressure before you even start.

I am 17 years old and a brand new hunter, I don't know anyone that hunts.  I bought a bow last year and hunted two days for archery blacktail before suffering a terrible ankle injury from soccer that had me in a boot cast for a month.  If anyone would be willing to let me tag along on any archery hunting trips to show me the ropes I would appreciate it very much.  I am in fantastic shape as I run cross country for my high school as well as play soccer.  Hunting is a sport that really interests me but  I am finding it tough to break into being young and inexperienced.  Even if there is an invite for just a scouting trip I would love to go and gain knowledge about hunting and animal behavior.  I am from Vancouver, WA.

Someone take this kid! If anything he would surely make a great packer!  :chuckle:

Hi Woods_Warrior,
Because you are under 18 your parents must approve for you to go hunting, will your parents agree to meet with someone and do you think they will allow someone to take you hunting?

Yah I think they would be alright with that, they would definitely want to meet the person beforehand, but I am pretty sure they would let me after that.

Just moved to the cda area in idaho but can travel to the eastern part of washington. Looking to deer and elk hunt. Spent the last 9 years living and hunting in alaska and can hike and carry a pack and not complain. I also have a 1754 gatortrax mudboat with a mud buddy 45 on the back if that could get us into some other spots. Also looking to do some waterfowl. I have a fully trained springer that is a great upland and waterfowl dog if someone wants to go that route. If your interested email me jason910910@gmail.com

I'll be hunting on the first day of (WA) modern firearm season and staying out till I get something.

I'm a first year hunter but have been scouting and will be hunting in OR with a 40 year hunting veteran on the first day of their season.

If anyone wants to join me or take me with them, then I would be very interested.

I'm in my late 30's.   In reasonable shape.   Have all equipment I'll need.

I would want to meet for coffee or something to make sure we are compatable to hunt together.

I'm locate in Vancouver, WA.

Looking for more hunting buddies and/or recommendations on where to go.

I will be hunting deer with modern firearms for meat.  I don't have much hunting experience and have yet to tag my first deer.  I do spend a reasonable amount of time camping outdoors, mostly dispersed camping (boondocking) in National Forests.  I live on the west side but am willing to hunt anywhere in the state.

I have one hunting buddy (we SCUBA dive together) but he hasn't been hunting in WA for 10-15 years, so we are scrambling last minute on deciding where to go.

My work is generally flexible so I can time time off here and there for scouting trips or week long hunts.   Yes I realize it is probably too late for scouting trips in 2014.

Anybody have an extra spot on a hunt we can join, or do you have a recommendation for GMU's to focus on?

Hi, I live near Bellingham (GMU 407) and I really want to hunt a deer with modern firearm next month.  I've purchased some maps and have been doing as much of internet research as I can but I'm still bit confused to where I can go.  There are so many different land owners (private, DNR, State, National forest...)  I'm used to hunting in SE Alaska where you just get out of the city limit and everything was ok to hunt on.  I'm looking for someone's secret spot.  I just want someone to point me to a general area that is open to public.  Any help I can get would be much appreciated.  Also, I am looking for a hunting partner because none of my friends here hunts.

Thank you.

After modern firearm hunting 388 for many years, we have decided that the deer are too far and few between, looking for a area that is not to up and down as hunter has heart condition, have quad if we could find somewhere he could ride.  Out of t he Battle Ground area, we usually like to camp for the week so if any one would have any ideas maybe we could come up with some kind of arrangement for all of us.  Thank-you for any ideas

Hi everyone, I hate to be white noise, but I am also new to hunting and looking for a partner. I've been black bear hunting once this year, no luck though. I'm very interested in hunting some smaller things to start (grouse, small game, etc), but would love to graduate to deer or basically anything I can get my hands on. I'm a rifle/shotgun hunter, and I live in the Bothell/Snohomish area. Anyone willing to help me out and show me a few things would be much appreciated.

Jw if anyone can point me toward a spot near jblm that I can take my 5 year old hunting with me in. I don't want to do jblm because I hear there are some careless knuckle heads out there. He is dying to go with me as he has never done anything in the outdoors until his mom and I got together. I have a mf deer tag as well as a small game license any hints where we can go to try and still hunt a black tail or just blast bunnies would be great.

Filled both of my deer tags so now I get to go play with the new bird dog.  Heading up to Trout Lake area this Friday (10-24-14) to do some Grouse hunting and pick Mushrooms, if anyone in the Battle Ground or SW Vancouver area wants to tag along send me a PM.  I'm very  knowledgeable when it comes to mushrooms, no expert but I have been picking them for 45 years.  The dog is a Springer Spainal named Ringo he is turining out to be a really good bird dog. I drive a Ford F250 desial just need to bring your own snacks and lunch, shot gun and shells and rain gear.   A little bit about me, I have been in law enforcement for 27 years and I have been a Hunter Education instructor for 20 years.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a noob on here (so take it easy on me). :)

I'm going to be headed down to a cabin in Morton on Thursday (10/30).  I'm going to be elk hunting (although I have the combo deer/elk/bear/cougar tag) and wouldn't mind having a couple more hunters join the group.

I've never hunted elk in western Washington but I'm the kind of guy who will hike all day, put the elk to bed, sleep in the woods and wait for daylight.  I'm 42yrs old, have been an archery hunter since I was 16, and find myself hunting modern due to a schedule conflict during archery season.

So, if you'd like a base camp between the 667/505 GMU (right on the tilton river), know the area a little bit and enjoy hunting hard, let me know.  Currently, it's me and a buddy and our two sons (16yrs and 18yrs).  We've all hunted/shot elk, deer, bear etc.  Our boys are great shots, safe, and ridiculous pack mules  :IBCOOL: :chuckle:

Needs:
Firewood (either bring some for the wood stove, or help cut/split on property).
Local knowledge of elk herds/areas that may bear fruit (a plus, not a must).
Gas (5 gals will be more than enough to run the generator)
Propane (5 gals will be more than enough for cooking)
Whiskey (hey, a guy has to have a drink after a long, hard day of hunting, right?) - Not looking to party, just relax.

Good luck, shoot straight and respect the land.

Best,

Roger

I am completely new to the state and this forum, just moved into the Cowlitz/Clark area.  Wondering if anyone would be willing do some migratory bird hunting with me.  I have all my own equipment (decoys, waders, gun, etc.) but don't know anyone that hunts nearby or what areas are worth hunting.  Willing to drive or throw in for gas and any other expenses.  PM me if you are looking for a new hunting buddy.

It's the last few days of Elk season and Bear season and I'm seeing some encouraging signs of fresh track and scat. Have put cams out and plan to head out a few times before the end of the season. Anyone have a Hancock permit for Snoqualmie and up for meeting up to hunt? I had a partner have to cancel. It's best to have a partner along in my opinion. Anyone game? I plan on going out today, tomorrow, Sunday, Monday, and maybe Wednesday.

What is everyone's plans for late archery season?  Since I had knee surgery for the early season I still have my west side elk and deer tag.  I have some hunting partners for weekend hunts but thinking of taking some time of during the week.  Anyone interested in tagging along.  Thanksgiving weekend is out for me.  My kids and grandkids will be up and haven't seen them in a while. I am open after that.

Looking or a person or group to hunt ducks with until the end of the season, my only hunting buddy moved and without a boat or dog huntings gotten difficult at the spots around my area, and its a good excuse to meet new waterfowlers. I usually hunt Nisqually or Chehalis but I wouldnt mind stretching my legs in to Eastern WA. Im pretty experienced, have dekes & gear and easy to get along with, been hunting since I was 16 (24 now) and ex military. My schedule is pretty open since I work nights so ive been trying to get out hunting a lot, just shoot me a PM, hoping to get out soon haha. Oh and Ive never hunted JBLM, dont know if theres requirements, never looked in to it but thought Id throw that out there.

I get 5 weeks of vacation, my wife only gets two so I have alot of time to spend in the field.

Hi, everyone.

I just took hunter education recently, and I have never hunted.  I am looking for someone to hunt with (or at least point me toward some guidance).  My first choice is to learn to hunt deer with a rifle.  But I have not yet bought my license and would definitely consider other kinds of hunting.  I am overwhelmed by figuring out what to do next, including finding a location to hunt.

I am in my mid-thirties and just never had family or friends who hunted.  (Here in the city, you hardly even dare ask.)

I'm looking for one or more people who are safe and responsible, especially with firearms (or bow and arrow).  (I promise to do my best to handle firearms safely!)  I do not drink alcohol, and I do not want to hunt with anyone who drinks while hunting.  I would prefer family-friendly or "low testosterone" groups.  Nothing against single guys per se but would prefer if your sister, niece/nephew, great-granddad, or whoever, is also there to help keep it real since I don't know you well yet.  If by chance you are a woman or group of women, that is fine too!

Welcome!  :hello:
I'm pretty new too. I've been hanging around, reading and asking questions for about a year now.

Would love to meet-up with an experienced hunter in the Spokane, WA area. Been educating myself as much as possible from the internet about hunting in the local area. Its been a while since I last hunted, about 15 years. I'm 29 years old, veteran of the US Army, and lived here for most my life. I'm also a father of a 5 year old girl and would love to pass these skills onto her one day. I been looking a lot online at going out and looking for sheds and it sounds exciting. Its almost the end of that season I'm noticing though. I'd be interested in going on a discovery trek up North over the weekend. I teach during the week. If anything else, I'd like to just learn anything I can about hunting now that I'm an adult back home. I'd love to learn more about big game and water fowl hunting, really just about anything.

Thanks in advance.

I’m new to hunting in WA. I have a rifle tag for Elk this year. Would love to join an experienced hunter to learn the ropes. I also have access to JBLM if anyone wants to join me. I’m in Yelm but traveling is no issue. Trying to take advantage of being stationed out here and experiencing the beauty of this state. Thank you.

I'm married and haven't done a personal ad in years, but here we go...

If you are willing to share your time and knowledge, you'll make a good friend and hunting partner.

I'm 52, over on Bainbridge Island (long timer). No one in my family hunts or fishes, so I am diving in on my own. I am RELIABLE, easy-going and willing to work for it. New to hunting, not new to the outdoors with experience hiking, camping, mountaineering.

Looking to hunt for upland birds and large game, need advice and someone to hunt with. I do some fly fishing, too. I can hunt mid-week (preferred) or weekends, and enjoy traveling the state seeing new places and having great adventures.

Recently purchased a hunting rifle (30-06). Also have a 12 gauge & a 357 handgun for protection. For next season, I plan to bow hunt as well.

Geared up and ready to do this....

Hi everyone!

I'm a new hunter and new to Washington State (been here for a year) and I'm looking to do some modern firearm hunting in Western Washington. I've got a rifle and have put in enough time at the range to the point where I am starting to feel comfortable at ranges of 100 yards. I have a bear, cougar, elk, and deer tag and I'm happy to go after any of them! I'm looking for a partner or mentor is who is willing to accompany me out into the field - would rather not go on my first few hunts alone! My other hobbies are hiking and running trails in the back country so I'm definitely physically fit enough that I won't be a liability.

Definitely looking for feedback from more experienced hunters so that I can improve. I'm very motivated and looking to take the deep dive into the hobby and getting out into the field!

I'm located in Seattle, but I have a car and am willing to travel wherever in Western Washington. My availability is mostly weekends at this point.

Look forward to hearing from you all!

Hi. I live in Seattle but grew up in Spokane/TC. I don’t have any hunters in my social circle. I picked up my fish and game licenses, a benelli nova, and two turkey tags. But, I haven’t touched a firearm since exiting the service 10 years ago.

I’m looking to learn how to hunt/fish and would appreciate any guidance or opportunities to tag along on either.

For starters, I’m think I’m gonna try and catch something from Greenlake once it gets stocked this month.

Hey everyone, been doing tons of reading on this site and have been pouring over maps, but I have almost no friends that hunt and would like to change that! My brother hunts but moved back to CO (where I am from and where the mulies and elk are plentiful). I have a compound bow and a 12 gauge and live in the Seattle area.

I am willing to drive / split gas (no truck, just my RAV4), plan trips and burn boot leather. My interests are turkeys, deer, grouse and ducks. I am a big fan of giving before getting and leaving places cleaner than I found them. For sure willing to trade work for access or contribute any way I can in exchange for mentorship. I'm coachable, reliable and independent, just looking for like minded folks to share the outdoors with mostly.

Thanks!

Ditto on that, I'm also more than willing to take service men & women out.  Knock on wood there should be plenty of action this year.  I'll post on the open seat thread when we get there as well.

Here are 2 great organizations that you could benifit from. Washington waterfowl Association. The seattle chapter meets at the kenmore gun club and i think they have an in person combo zoom meeting. They are on Facebook and have a website.

Silver Arrow Bowmen in Mount Vernon. The best range in Wa, Im a tad bit biased. Membership is cheep! 50 target walk through course, indoor range, and depending on where in Seatown you live not that far away. We have/had members from Seattle to BC. It is where i shoot, have made great friends for hunting and shooting. Also on social media.

Both orgs have dedicated threads about them on here under organizations, charities and events.

Hey all. My son and I did some scouting around Rustler's Gulch/West Branch Wild Life Area last year. I bumped a doe and we heard some turkey into late summer and interested in getting deeper into the area as it doesn't seem heavily trafficked for hunting.

Horseshoe Lake has the West Branch of the Little Spokane running through it and out down about 4.5 miles through the Wild Life Area and into Eloika lake. My father's house is on the N end of Eloika.

Does anyone know if this portion of the creek can be paddled (canoe)? The wildlife area has no overnight camping and I feel like launching at Horse Shoe and traveling down to my Dad's on Eloika would be the quickest and most accessible way to reach the inner portion of the hunting area.

Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this area? I'd primarily be interested in calling in a spring turkey.

Hey everyone, I'm a new hunter located down in the Vancouver area. I fully intended to plan out a solo hunt for this fall and have done a ton of research, but I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and decided I'd see if anyone is looking for a hunting partner on here. I'm 36 and I was in the Marines, so I'm not new to firearms and have a 30-06, a compound bow that I have been practicing with for a couple of years now, and all of my own gear. I haven't bought any tags yet, so I'm open to any weapon/species, and willing to travel within the state.

I appreciate this community and have found the info on here to be a great resource so far. Thanks

Too small to float. Access to all parts of the wildlife area is pretty easy, the 3 access points are pretty spread out. There are turkeys there, it gets hunted moderately hard from my experience.

Pm me if you want to scout or turkey hunt.

Hello all,

I am new to the forum, thank you for accepting, very much looking forward to connect with fellow hunters!

Right now, I'm looking for a Chukar hunting partner that would like to meet up for occasional weekend hunts around Ellensburg or anywhere West of the Columbia that you would like to go.  I have been hunting alone so far this season, and I'm limited on terrain because I don't want to fall down/twist an ankle up there by myself and not have a partner for backup (or get stuck).  You fellow Chukar hunters know what I'm talking about, that country can be brutal.

I'm set up with:
- 3yo Brittany bird dog.. he's still learning but he points and has a good nose on him (although pretty weak on retrieval).  He's much more versed in pheasant but he's learning Chukar rather quickly.  Works very well with other dogs, does his job no matter who he's hunting with.
- F-250 4x4 pickup with canopy (does alright)
- I'm 48 years old and decent shape, can hunt a full day in the hills without too much problem (might take a break to huff and puff once in a while haha).
- I'm a student of the sport, easy going and always willing to take advice if you have any suggestions.
- Pretty flexible on schedule and willing to accommodate to my partner's availability, especially anytime after Christmas.

The season will be wrapping up soon for this year but I'd like to go at least one more time before the end of the month if anyone is interested.

My other hunting usually includes:
- Modern for elk around Naches
- Muzzleloader Deer (own property in Republic)
- Just started turkey hunting last year (there's usually a bunch on my property)
- Most of my pheasant hunting has been on the West side but I am also looking for insight on where to hunt wild pheasant on the east side as well!

Thank you, and happy hunting!

Hey all,

I'll keep this fairly succinct, if you're interested in getting together send me a PM and we can further the discussion.

I'm 28, located in the Seattle area and have been hunting for about 3 years primarily for big game. So far I've been successful bowhunting/rifle hunting deer. I enjoy staying physically active, I hike and run regularly. This upcoming season I've managed to draw a multi-season deer tag and I'll be hunting Eastern Elk during archery season. I just started putting boots on the ground to scout for this upcoming season and I've got a few of my trail cams out with a couple more to go. Unfortunately none of my friends share what has become a semi-healthy addiction for hunting, so I'd love to meet another hunter who has a similar passion for getting after game.

My preferred hunting is with a bow but I run muzzleloaders and rifles as well. I'm a tinkerer, I've been handloading about 2 years and I load for quite a few popular calibers. I enjoy poring over maps and spending my weekends out exploring new hunting terrain. I'm former Army, definitely be interested in possibly hunting some other states for big game in the future.

If you're interested in hunting together send me a message and we can set up a day to go do some target shooting/get to know eachother.

Thanks,
-Karl

While I don't have a line on a partner I will suggest my home Archery Range Silver Arrow Bowmen.  Membership is cheap. You may feel like it's a long ways away but we have members from Seatown to BC. It's just a couple minutes off I5. We have some younger members that were into "Train to hunt" the course is a 50 target 3.1 mile loop that you could speed hike and shoot to train at. They are on Facebook and a dedicated thread on here.

I'm completely new to the hunting/shooting scene and I'm trying to figure out ways of breaking myself in. I thought finding hunting partner(s) would be a good place to start, people with more experience than me can impart their wisdom and knowledge. I own a 12-gauge and thought that a turkey hunt might be a cool place to start but I'm also open to other types of game that I can hunt using the shotgun. Experts, please reach out :)

Tell us a little about yourself, Welcome aboard.

I've been an outdoor enthusiast forever; camping, hiking, exploring, etc. I grew up doing boy scouts and even remember shooting a gun or two. My dad used to hunt when I was little but stopped before I had the opportunity to learn. Now that I'm older and have 2 boys of my own, I want to branch out into the world and procure food the way humans were meant to and I want my kids to know where their food comes from. I'm hoping when I gain more experience, I'll be able to take them out and teach them about hunting and conservation as well.

I live in the Everett area but I'm willing to travel wherever the game for beginners are at. It's hard to know where to start.

Sounds like my story. Even started with turkey, but the west side impossible birds. I found them, was able to call them in but it never worked out. Same with big game, see plenty of animals but fail to seal the deal trying to get within bow range. As far as getting started. I used this site a bunch to research areas that could be good within a 2 hr drive, asked questions on this forum, got onX so I could find public land with access and then put boots on ground. I also like to explore and see what I can see. I would do morning scouting trips at least once a week all year around. Rain, shine or snow. I’d walk roads behind gates, If I found sign or saw animals I’d come back again and explore further. Maybe put out a trail camera if I found decent game trails or was just curious about foot traffic in the area. I now have a few places that I consistently see animals so I just go to those since I’m limited on hunting time. Hope that helps a little. I’m no expert by any means, this will be my 5th year at it and Ive enjoyed every minute of my time in the woods. Every minute you’re out there you can learn something and that’s how I’ve been approaching this new endeavor.

Hey fellow hunters, I recently moved back to WA in the Puyallup area. I lived here for many years until 2010 and hunted units 460, 654 and 667. I got a nice deer in 2009 in unit 667. Sadly, my longtime hunting partner passed away unexpectedly a couple of years ago. I'm not really a solo hunter, I believe in partnering up with people I can trust and that we can help each other out when needed, watch each other's backs, vehicles, etc. especially with all of the criminals running rampant these days. I hunt with a rifle and can hike pretty far if the terrain isn't too bad. I'm 56 years old and not in the best shape but I still get around pretty good. Would like to meet up with some likeminded folks (Pro 2A, Hunting Fishing), hunt some deer and set up or join an annual Westside hunt camp if at all possible. I also have a good friend who is a disabled hunter that I would really like to help get a deer someday. I wish you all a successful hunt this year and all the years ahead.

Hello guys, I live in the Bellingham area and I've been gearing up to go out for my first rifle deer season this October. I am a new hunter looking to build some connections. I have no family members that have any experience and most of my friends do not hunt or only hunt waterfowl. I've been educating myself and gearing up over the last 3-4 months but there is only so much you can learn from podcasts, YouTube, internet, and books. Thanks again guys. Feel free to send me a personal message or just comment on the board. Thanks guys and looking forward to hearing from yall soon.
