Scouting, Mobile Meth Lab, Trailer came off, Fun weekend
« on: August 07, 2017, 08:02:55 AM »
Cab and I did a dry run with the trailer this weekend to check out a campsite and do a little more scouting. Got into camp before dark and set up the trailer. The next morning we spent an hour cleaning up 3 fire sites of cans, metal, broken pieces of ceramic tile, and a seal ring for a 55 gal drum lid. Light is beginning to dawn on marblehead. In the woods about 20 years appears to be an abandoned homeless camp. Upon further inspection, we discovered corrugated steel roofing, about 100 yards of plastic and tarps, carpeting - meth lab, almost without a doubt. Cab found a warning label for Arsenic pesticide and a business card for an equipment rental. We got all of the stuff down to the FS LE. The site appears to be more than a year old. So that happened.

The road was really bumpy and almost no cars all weekend. We got up there fine. But coming back around noon yesterday, the shadows were hiding the bumps. We hit one and the trailer came off. Luckily, the emergency brake worked like a charm. But now, we're stuck and can't even budge the tongue of the trailer. Just them, 4 trucks came down the hill, we got two jacks under it and got it back on. Stressful drive all the way home but made it without further incident. Now, no power in the unit even plugged in. I'm sure glad we made the dry run to iron out the kinks. It looks like it's going to cost a few bucks to fix and get ready for the opener, though. This seems to be a lot like boat ownership! Sure was happy the day I bought it though!  :chuckle:

Sorry for the rough weekend. Glad everything worked out the best it could though. I know what you mean by those shadows hiding holes. Lots of roads are in Horrid shape these days. Really takes a toll on everything. At least you got out and made some memories though.

We got out of it way better than I'd imagined we would. I also had a great time with Cab. He's a nice young guy in great shape and always pulling his weight (plus a little of mine, as well). I think I've found a great partner for this season, hopefully longer.

Thanks for putting in the time to clean up after the thoughtless jerks.
Good to hear there were other good samaritans there to help you out.
Best of luck this year.

Turns out that the ball is the right size. I'll have to figure out how to tighten the receptacle in the tongue.
