Scouting
« on: February 23, 2020, 02:35:48 PM »
Thinking of heading over to chewelah to do some scouting for turkeys soon. This will be my first season in probably 18 yrs trying to hunt them tried a season or two in the klickitat area back in 99 and 2000. Saw a few birds. Thinking of camping out on national forest land. I’m a disabled vet but I don’t let that slow me down. Hunted 1 yr there for white tails with my son in colville national forest I’m guessing that’s where the birds are or on private land. How early should u scout a area? No seminars down here for turkey hunting. If u will be around during the season stop by and say hello Honda CR-V black grey 2018.

I would “scout” turkeys as close to the season as possible for knowing/ patterning where they maybe. I’m hoping to make it over there the first or 2nd week. If I’m over there I’ll let you know.

What I have done in the past is the soonest would be the end of March. Normally I go 2 days before season starts and scout then hunt.

I'm taking my youngest son over for the youth hunt and plan to be there for sunrise Thursday morning so we can scout Thursday/Friday and hopefully have some birds located before Saturday.  I would scout as close to your hunt dates as possible as patterns change and birds move, ymmv.
