Great story, sure enjoyed following along. Gotta ask...all those bucks in the pics you shared, like Trashy, are dead? Tagged by other hunters? Would have liked to see what Trashy looked like next season...
All dead. Killed by tag holders.  Was really surprising to me. Trashy had the potential to possibly be that 230" nontypical we all dream about.  Was killed damn near in that exact spot I filmed him.
Karl, did you see the double main beam buck that got shot?

yes I did, but not a buck I was aware of.  Just a good reminder that no matter how hard you look, you can never find them all.

I had him in my hands yesterday, he is a heavy buck with huge bases! Sorry I didn’t take pictures.. I’ve only been in that unit one time during the spring on horseback and it was a miserable place, my horses were getting attacked by the mosquitos! There are parts of the unit so thick you’d never know the bucks lurking in the 12’ tall cat tails and thick Russian olive patches.

Deer like that don’t come around very often and when they do grow to that size and that age they are very very smart. If Karl and I would have competed for that buck what would have happened is we would have ended up pushing the envelope to hard and blowing him out for nether of us to have gotten. Karl went into the tag with a specific score of 190”+ and with that being the only buck of that caliber we had found and with all the time and work Karl put into finding him it was only right to let him have his opportunity at him. I was just glad to be a part of it.

Wow... you are a solid dude.... an attitude like that is extremely hard to find....
