Best elk GMU in the State?
« on: August 07, 2012, 03:23:00 PM »
OK.  this is probably going to open a can of worms but lets here why ya think about the best modern rifle Big Bull area in the state.  I will open by explaining that I enter around 15 family and close friends in the permit draw each year.  they seem to let me do all of the research and trust me to put them in for the best opportunities to get a big bull.  Over the years we have seen some good successes and have had are hard times too.  After all of the areas we have drawn I have concluded that Dayton A rifle tag is probably the best tag in the state to draw.  Access is easy to find in the Nat Forrest and animal quality if you are willing to hunt hard is really good.

Since the year 2000 my party has drawn two Watershed bull tags (with two 6x6 bulls harvested), three Observatory (Manastash) big bull tags (with a 2x2, 4x4, and 6x6 harvested), one Blue Creek tag (14 year old girl didn't make the shot), and six Dayton A tags (with all of them being 6x6 or bigger up to a 398 7x8).  this year we have one Dayton tag and a Watershed tag to go after so we will be busy.

Lets here what you think and more importantly is why you feel the way you do about the GMU.

I don't know the best, but thanks for the tip on Dayton 'A'.  I'll keep that in mind for the future.  :hello:
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

There isn't, this is a deception tactic spearheaded by the CCC once again to keep people out of the Colockum where all the 400 in. plus bulls are a dime a dozen.  Don't believe him, anybody that's familiar with this tactic and any real hunters knows that you don't divulge your honey hole or where the elk are, I seen through this tactic the minute I read the title. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

I dont think you give up your honey-hole by declaring what GMU you hunt in!  And anyone that doesnt know that Dayton, Blue Creek, Wenaha, Watershed, and Tucannon are the best trophy GMU's in the state arn't the smartest around.  It doesnt take much to read the hunting results and the size of the elk harvested off of the State Web site and notice where the Auctioned off Governers tag shoots his elk every year.  So I don't think I am letting out top secret honey holes by any means!

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
