Over the years up north I've seen some really good chasing/seeking action during the 1st week of late rifle.

Which coincidentally was taken away this year

My personal observations over the years have shown a heavy "chase" phase from 20-25 November. I have even witnessed does being bred during that timeframe. That being said, every fawn drop I have ever witnessed was right around 1 June (give or take a few days). This would point towards 15 November as being the tending/breeding phase and would ultimately mean you should see chasing in the week or two prior. Looking back at my trail cam photos over the years I see the most daylight monster buck activity between 5-15 November.
:yeah: i leave for idaho on friday and 90% of our deer are killed between the 8th-12th

Hey would you guys start to rattle around the 10th in GMU 101? Is this too early? Last year I hunted around Thanksgiving weekend and saw a lot of bucks with does, and thought they already established their ground and had all their does, thought I was too late for calling since I wasn't successful calling. Can anyone shoot me some advice on what tactics to use opening day. Thanks.

IMO the 10th would be prime rattle time! It'll work throughout the rut. Don't believe all the TV shows. A buck locks up on 1 hot doe and when he's done with her he looks for another. During this time if he hears a buck fight he'll assume it's over a doe and come in to investigate...............or fight! Post rut is great too but probably only experienced in parts of Idaho where the season goes until December.

Things look good on paper for Saturday's opener in the northeast.  Cold snap starting Friday.  Snow possible, likely in places.  The sun will be chasing what little sliver of moon there is across the sky (moonrise and sunrise are only 2 hours apart), so there will be zero overnight moonlight to contend with.  Deer should be on their feet Saturday.

Key word being 'should'

I pulled a couple cards from cameras in 121. I was shocked at the number of new scrapes opened up just since Friday morning to today. The only big buck I have on camera is still in the dark but moving as late as 5:30 am. Not too far form sun up. I made a mock scrape Friday morning and had 4 new scrapes surrounding it toady. I wish I had a camera on it but it was an afterthought on the way back to the rig.

My wife should have agood hunt Saturday. I wish the bow season opened in 121 on Saturday.
