I'm still fairly new to this state and I'm wanting to try elk hunting.  Anyone recommend where to start or any advice?

I'm more excited about this year's archery elk/deer than I've been in years.

Elk hunting is how I get my fix!!!  To hell with crack!
I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

I've been feeling it for quite a while. I've been pouring over my old maps and looking through all of my notes. I've been chasing what I think is the same bull in the same drainage for the last two years. I've seen him both years and had one solid chance I wish I would have taken. This year I'm going harder and for longer. I'm just hoping he made it through the winter.

I'm with ya on the elk thoughts! The last few years probably more, when we are leaving we are planning the next years hunt. And it never quits either. The wife is into very much but she can be telling me something anything and I'll pop up with some thought about elk camp and she will ask is that all you think about? I tell her do you want to kill elk? She says hell yes! Then I tell her we must plan to improve our operation at all times of the year to be successful! Even when she talks about planting flowers!  :chuckle:

I hear it year 'round. I started my workouts on June 3rd. Riding the bike at least 40 miles/wk and going to the gym. Need to take off some of that cheesecake from Christmas finally. I'll get there.

I HATE ELK HUNTING!  I think I'm going to hang it up this year.....said by me never.

For me it never goes away.  As soon as season is over its back in the gym.  I workout year round, always tinkering with calls in the off-season, going to trade shows in the winter, upgrade gear, tinker with bow, shoot the bow, etc....   My wife thinks I have a problem :chuckle:

Only 76 days and 16 hours until September 3.

Nothing, NOTHING like elk hunting....love to hear em bugle, be surrounded by elk mewing and calling, heart pounding, wind swirling, senses all razor sharp, pulling back that bow string and hearing the THWACK!...

fresh blood, fresh meat and a cut tag....

backstraps on a stick over a campfire anyone?!

We need a 12-step program. "Hi. I'm John and I have an elk problem."

My dad and I are going to Oregon to chase elk the last week of early season. I talk to him a few times a week on the phone and every conversation has at least 5-10 minutes of talk about gear, shooting, strategies etc.  :chuckle:

Hi, I'm Shawn, and I'm an elkaholic.  Its been 185 days since my last elk hunt.   [clapping and 'atta-boys heard all around].  I've been an elkaholic for 36 years.  [muffled "sorry man's" and "its OK's"].  I got hooked when my Dad took me for the first time at age 14 into the Wenaha when it was OTC for any bull.  [EA Moderator: "A lot of us got hooked by our parents--they didn't know any better.] I'm stuck on Step 9. I made a list of the elk I had offended and tried to make amends, but I sneaked in, cow called, and pulled back on them instead. [Head shaking, beard rubbing, and eyes tearing up.]  Maybe by saying that, I've moved on to Step 10...? [I step down amidst head nodding, clapping, more 'atta boys, and "you can do it, man."] [I go to a meeting every few days, but I know I'll re-offend in 77 days (unless I draw Wenaha East and then its only 75 days!)]
