I dont have any pointers but my brothers drew the tag a couple years ago and both scratched. Its steep country and they didnt get into a lot of elk until the last 3 or 4 days... They also didnt scout as much as they probably should have.  :twocents:

I've never hunted that specific unit by I know it's only a couple hours from Bonney Lake.  Perfect excuse to make several camping trips the next couple months and find some elk!

Put in your time scouting over there. There is some good elk hunting and if you work hard you should have a good hunt. It is some steep and nasty stuff in some of the areas and others like pine grass and Conrad are not to bad. I had the tag in 09 fires shut us down from scouting from all the closures. We still did fine and got into the elk but my buddy knows the area well.

Not an easy tag, lots of permits and lots of general hunters.  Stick it out til
The end,  don't fool yourself there will be people steep and deep.  The first and last couple days are the best

Oh and try to stay away from the jeep trails. Not fun to walk in several miles and have a bull talking in front of you to have 2 jeeps go bombing by you on a road 75 yards away you didn't know about :chuckle: Don't ask me how I know :chuckle:

Had the tag last year( modern) . Like others have said its steep, deep and very thick. I spent every weekend up there scouting , was into elk every weekend. I found out its not like other units where you can sit and let other hunters do the pushing. There are road hunters everywhere. I didn't get into elk till the general opener , than it was a spike at 15 yards ( i let him walk). Good luck

We hunting it year's ago and were on elk ever day. I think late archery is a better hunt. My buddy had the same tag. We hunted it hard and only just some bulls way up high at the GMU line and that was it the whole week. Good luck

It's a good unit. We've been hunting it for years and do very well.........largely because we know where to look. We continue to scout though. It is steep, and the jeep trails can actually be a help in locating crossing trails and getting into areas (on foot) more easily in the dark. If you're not fit yet, time to get to training......
