ABD - Archery Buck Down!!!!
« on: December 01, 2008, 02:51:24 PM »
Hey guys (and gals I suppose),

I shot a really nice buck last week and wanted to post some pics and a short story to keep us all entertained.  We all know that the "down time" is coming soon with most of the big game seasons ending and we'll have to settle for reading hunting stories, shooting birds or trying to find a big cat.

Here is a quick deer story to help thwart off the "off season blues"....

I have been on some very tough hunts in the past several years but I will tell you what.  THIS hunt was not one of them.  I won't glorify it and tell you about how far we hiked and how steep it was.  I often find myself in those places but I finally got an easy one.  We did hike a very steep and nearly dangerous hill that morning that I have killed some bucks on, but we only saw does and got tired so we were actually driving to relocate into some more mild terrain when we spotted this Bruiser from the truck.  The next few mintues are kind of blurry but it did involve me missing and EASY 25 YARD SHOT!!!! I never thought I would get that close to a late season Mule Deer and my top pin is 35 yards.   I shot right over him. He ran out to 70 yards and I hit him twice at 70 yards a couple of minutes later I was trying to get another arrow in him and he almost ran me over... it was cool seeing his rack lumbering over the grass walking towards me.  I thought he would here my arrow "pluck" out of my quiver but I got drawn back and shot him tight behind the shoulder at 10 yards!  He ran down the hill and front of me and zig-zagged a couple of times before tumbling down the hill another 50 yards or so.  This is an awesome buck and I am really happy with him.  This is exactly the buck I have been trying to get for years.  It is my 5th  4x4 Archery Mule Deer in 6 years but by FAR my biggest one.  Anyone who knows me will testify that I usually figure out how to do it the hardest way possible, but on this one I'll take the easy way!

He is very heavy, has 3" eye guards - 21.5" wide and the G4's are 9.5" long.  Net typical 151".

Enjoy the pics!
