2014-15 Alaskan Trapping Journal
« on: November 10, 2014, 09:35:09 AM »
Well the season has started! Today is the opener and I'm excited to get out tomorrow and start setting up. I'll head from Wasilla to Cantwell tomorrow to set my long line. I may get out tonight and set a couple local fox sets as well. Should be a fun season with hopefully lots of fur! I'm wanting to get more marten and wolverine this season and maybe a few more wolves. I'd still like to put a black one on my wall. Lynx numbers are down but they are not out. Only issue I'm having right now is the lack of time I had prior to ice up to chase beaver for bait. I've got several buckets of rabbits and grouse parts to help make up for it hopefully! Look forward to seeing everyones pics from WA. Remember I'm in AK so I'm allowed to use real traps and even conibears on land, just a reminder when you see them in my pics. With that said any of my conibear sets that are on land are more than 100 miles from a house  :chuckle: Not really worried about getting someones lab. They are about the best thing on wolverine! Make a giant leaning pole with a 280 and put a couple #4s under it for good measure. Good luck to everyone and hope to get pics posted soon!

Yehaw, one of my favorite threads of the year.

P.S.  I'd still really like to buy a Kodiak red fox if your friend has any to sell this year.  ;)

I've got a couple from Kodiak that are not tanned. Id been holding out selling them waiting to get tanned. He will also be starting his line today.

Just going to be getting my line started tonight! We are warm again this yr starting. It was 46 last night and around 42 right now. My line is around 150 miles north of here and its been just below freezing up there with little to no snow so its a rough start. Hard not being able to get out the snow machine.

Few pics from tonight. Going to get a bunch of sets out tomorrow that are not as far off the rd. These are around an hr hike. Around dozen marten sets in plus couple double sets with traps beaded below the marten boxes.

Little change in plans today. Wasn't able to leave this morning early for my longline so I got my short lines started. Great day in the woods setting for fox and a few other critters! Lots of snares and diet holes with a few water sets.

Tag - love following along and seeing all the pictures.
How much do the wolf pelts usually go for? Or is that something you usually keep?
