2015 Lincoln Spring Bear
« on: March 10, 2015, 08:41:34 PM »
My son drew a Lincoln Spring bear tag and we have read the thread from last year on here about the Lincoln tag.  Any help at all would be appreciated.  I've sent to Weyerhaeuser asking about their access.  I live in Yelm and had put in for Kapowsin and checked prior to applying with Hancock, but he lives in Centralia and put Lincoln as his 2nd choice and drew.

Thanks

I was informed by Weyco that they would be opening the gates to all the areas that are open for the permit hunting at least a week prior to the season.  No access permit will be required, as they expired at the end of January.

Thanks very much.  Are you hunting that unit?  He has taken a pretty nice WV black bear a couple of years ago.  This will be his first time hunting in Washington, although he followed me around muzzy elk last year.

He will be 28 in two days.  He grew up in Colorado and Utah when I worked there with the NPS.  I've only missed 3 seasons in 25 or so years now of elk hunting in CO and my sons have been on a good bit of them.

This year I spent archery deer looking for where I wanted to elk hunt and not really to concerned with deer.  Found areas we liked around the middle of muzzy and had cap not fire on recently removed 209 primer muzzy when finally getting within 45 yards of a nice 5x5 bull.  Felt like that was good for first year of learning to hunt elk in these thick PNW mountains.

Both my sons have killed bears on plum creek timber leases that I had in WV.

I drew a Lincoln permit two years ago and I got one about third week of season walking old grades. It was eating grass. But the area I hunted up Bunker creek is off limits now because it is  part of Weyerhauser lease. Friend of mine got a bear year before I did early in season walking old roads.

I got email from Weyerhauser Forest Manager and he stated that the area open to hunting will be posted on the WDFW site any time now.  He also like Torrent50 mentioned above that gates will be open the week before season.

Sons pumped about the tag and figures it was an early B-day present.

I'll try to find some pics of the bear he got in WV years ago.  Here's a good bear from game camera in CO a couple years ago.

Had it a few years back.  Some good sign only a few miles in but no bear.  One pile of bear scat was big around as a pop can.  Seen a good buck.  Good luck.  As others have said walk the old roads grass will be going good.
